When you're getting ready to make the next step towards medical school, Varsity Tutors can help you find a Phoenix MCAT class to help you study before your test date. The Medical College Admission Test, or MCAT, is one of the largest challenges you'll face to get into your medical school of choice. Whether you're already a nurse and looking to become a doctor, or you're going straight from your premedical track to taking the test, you need the right tools to study for it.
The concepts on the MCAT assess your knowledge of concepts that a medical school deems imperative to a new student's success. It's important to do well on the MCAT because nearly all medical schools in the U.S. require MCAT scores with your application.
How can I prepare for the MCAT?
The exam is standardized, computer-based, and multiple-choice. The score consists of five parts from the test: one for each of the four sections and the combined total score. The score ranges from 118-132 on each section. This all totals up to range from 472-528 for the final score. Throughout the test, there are experimental questions in each section that will not count in your final score.
If you're seeking assistance to get ready for this pivotal step, a Phoenix MCAT course can be a great help to review your overall knowledge. We can help you find a course that meets online led by an expert academic mentor. If your goal is to take the MCAT in order to gain admission to a school such as the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix, Varsity Tutors can help you find an MCAT course to help you get a better idea of the subject material and layout of the test. Here's some general information on the MCAT.
What topics can a Phoenix MCAT course help you review?
The MCAT consists of four sections: Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems, Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills, Biological and Biochemical Foundation of Living Systems, and Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior. Throughout the test, you'll have to answer passage-based sets of questions and independent questions.
It's important that you learn to pace yourself well because the total testing time is 6 hours and 15 minutes. However, you will be seated for approximately 7.5 hours. Here's a look at each section.
The Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems section has 59 questions (10 passage-based questions and 15 independent questions). You'll spend 95 minutes to complete this part of the test. Students taking this portion of the MCAT will be tested on the functions of the human body, basic chemical and physical principles of living, and how different mechanisms operate in the human body. Students should also be aware of concepts from general chemistry, organic and inorganic chemistry, introductory physics, introductory biology, and basic biochemistry.
Next, you'll take the Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills section, which is 90 minutes long. You'll complete 9 passage-based sets of questions for a total of 53 questions. Students taking this section of the MCAT should review their verbal reasoning, reading comprehension, and analytical skills.
The Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems section is 95 minutes long. You'll answer 59 questions, which include 10 passage-based sets of questions and 15 independent questions. Students should be mindful of concepts such as the processes of living beings and other topics in biology during this part of the MCAT. Before the test, students should refresh their knowledge of general chemistry, organic chemistry, introductory biology, and basic biochemistry. It can be helpful to review key concepts in terms of cell activity, such as how they act independently and how they work together to grow and reproduce in organisms.
Finally, you'll take the Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior section. The part of the MCAT is comprised of 59 questions, and you'll have 95 minutes to complete it. Students should be aware of topics relating to self-preservation in different environments, behavior that may result from mental health issues, and different human and social issues present in the field of medicine. It may be helpful for students to refine their skills in biology, introductory psychology, and introductory sociology for this section.
How can a Phoenix MCAT prep course help me study?
An instructor in an online MCAT prep course can help pinpoint different sections of the test that may give you some difficulty. In your course, you will have the ability to speak with your instructor and other students just as you would in a typical classroom. This can be an effective method of studying because everyone attending class can give input in order to make the material more engaging and easy to understand. Not only that, but you'll be able to work from anywhere as long as you have internet access. When you're in a comfortable place, you may be able to work more diligently during your MCAT course. And whether you prefer taking a course on either weekday afternoons or the weekend evenings, we can help you find a course that fits your life.
Once you get into the class, you'll be able to start working on skills you may lack. Your instructor can help you and the other students learn more efficient test-taking techniques, for example. Also, if you feel the need for additional help, you can request some private time to go over tricky concepts with your instructor.

Encouraging and rewarding the student's independent research and verbalization of their thoughts will stimulate independence in the learning process.... Attempt a different approach in relaying the information, while keeping in mind the student's learning style.... Allow the student to verbalize what they have read in their own words.
