If your Pittsburgh SIE preparation could use a boost, Varsity Tutors can set you up with two excellent services to help you reach for your full academic and professional potential. First, we can enroll you in a Pittsburgh SIE prep course where you can study under the tutelage of an expert instructor in a structured learning environment. Alternatively, we can find you a private Pittsburgh SIE tutor who can help you study for the exam at your own pace. Both are powerful options, and many students opt for both of them in order to feel as prepared as possible on exam day.
The Securities Industry Essentials Exam, or SIE, acts as an individual's introduction to the concepts fundamental to working in the securities industry. FINRA (Financial Industry Regulatory Authority) requires the test to earn any trading license, but the SIE alone does not qualify you for a position in the securities industry. Instead, you must combine it with a more specialized qualification test such as the Series 7 or Series 52 in order to begin trading. While you need an affiliation with a FINRA member firm to take a qualification exam, the SIE is open to any adult. As a result, college students at institutions such as the University of Pittsburgh or Carnegie Mellon University may take it to prove their commitment to potential employers.
What can I review during my Pittsburgh SIE prep?
The SIE is a multiple-choice test with 75 questions. You have a total of an hour and 45 minutes to answer all of the questions, and you must score at least 70 percent in order to pass. Some of the topics covered on the test include different types of markets, equity securities, debt instruments, REITs, and customer account registrations. You can also expect to cover ethical issues such as prohibited activities, employee conduct, and reportable events.
The hardest part of many FINRA tests isn't the material covered but the way the exam is worded. You might want to take practice tests during your test prep to familiarize yourself with how the exam approaches certain concepts. In fact, your instructor can even point out some of the test's favorite tricks so that you know exactly what to watch out for.
What are some of the advantages provided by each of the Pittsburgh SIE prep options available to me?
As noted above, Varsity Tutors can either enroll you in a Pittsburgh SIE prep class or find you an academic mentor. If you choose to take a class, you'll meet with a passionate teacher and a group of dedicated classmates on our proprietary Live Learning Platform. Each teacher is thoroughly vetted, so you can count on receiving up-to-date information on the SIE while you study. Our Live Learning Platform also allows you to interact with your instructor in real time, so asking for clarification is as easy as it would be in a traditional classroom.
Our exclusive platform also supports peer-to-peer interactions, allowing you to see and hear your classmates during your class sessions. Many students find that it's easier to understand difficult concepts in a collaborative learning environment than trying to study on your own. For instance, another student's interpretation of anti-money laundering procedures may be the viewpoint you need to comprehend the subject. Studying in a group also gives you more value for your money, as you get all of the benefits of working with an expert instructor at a fraction of the cost.
If you'd prefer to study in a private learning environment, we can match you with a private instructor who you can meet with either online or in-person. If you choose digital study sessions, you'll take advantage of our Live Learning Platform's virtual whiteboard and video chat features to get a face-to-face study experience anywhere with a stable internet connection. If you're more old-fashioned, you can meet your instructor in-person whenever and wherever works for you.
Your instructor can design sessions around your unique needs to improve your study efficiency. If you're a kinesthetic learner, your instructor may provide sample clients so you can practice your bookkeeping skills. If you're a visual learner, an illustrated checklist of what to do may be more beneficial for you.

I love helping students in topics related to math, to finance (public and private equity) and to engineering. I believe that if I can't explain concept, then I don't understand it. By that same token, if a student can't explain a concept back to me, then they don't understand it even if they say they do. I believe in getting to know all students, as their background is intricately connected with how they learn.
