If you want to make the most of your San Antonio LSAT prep, Varsity Tutors can set you up with services that fit your needs. Because the LSAT can be a part of the application for schools such as St. Mary's University School of Law, preparing effectively can be important to your academic and professional career.
The Law School Application Test, or LSAT, is designed to test a candidate's readiness for the challenges of law school. The exam takes two hours and 55 minutes to complete. As the only test that is accepted by any ABA-accredited law school, this exam can have a significant impact on your future.
What am I able to study during San Antonio LSAT prep?
The LSAT is made up of four parts. The first three parts are known as the Digital LSAT, and they are taken on tablets that are provided on the day of the exam. The sections of the Digital LSAT are Reading Comprehension, Analytical Reasoning, and Logical Reasoning. All questions in these sections are in multiple-choice format, and the score for each section ranges from 120 to 180. The Writing LSAT contains one essay response. However, you do not write the essay on the day of the exam. Rather, you access this portion via an online portal within one year of the exam date. Let's take a moment to familiarize ourselves with each section.
The Reading Comprehension section contains long-form written passages for you to critically engage. These questions mirror the sorts of questions that you will encounter during your time in law school. In addition to understanding the main points of the passages, you need to demonstrate your understanding of concepts such as effective writing structure and analogies. You will be permitted 35 minutes to complete this section.
During the Analytical Reasoning section of the LSAT, you will be presented with questions that ask you to reason based on certain relationships. You must understand the basic structure of the relationships and reason using conditional statements. Your ability to use inference effectively will be important as well. This section also takes 35 minutes to complete.
The Logical Reasoning portion of the LSAT presents you with information from several types of sources that you must then analyze. Sources such as informal discourse, newspapers, and advertisements will make arguments. You must recognize the component parts of these arguments, draw conclusions that are based on evidence, and detect the assumptions underlying the author's claims. The Logical Reasoning section of the LSAT contains two subsections. You will have 70 total minutes to complete the entire section.
During the Writing section, you will respond to a prompt that asks you to choose a side in an argument. The argument will revolve around either your position on a topic or, which of two choices you think is best. This section is not scored and there is no "right" or "wrong" answer to the question. Your response will be sent to any schools where you submit an application. When the review your application, they can examine your response to evaluate the quality of your argument, your use of evidence, and clarity of your writing. You will have 35 minutes to complete your response.
What can San Antonio LSAT prep do to help me review?
During your LSAT prep, there are two main paths you can choose for your studying. You can learn in a collaborative group environment with a San Antonio LSAT prep course. If you would rather experience a one-on-one learning atmosphere, you can work with a San Antonio LSAT tutor.
Because you are learning alongside other students and your instructor during a San Antonio LSAT prep class, you can see the material from a variety of perspectives. The live virtual classroom where you meet allows for real-time interactions such as questions and group discussions. In addition the chance to hear different viewpoints about the material, your classes can cover the material that is most important for the group. If the class is struggling with a particular topic, the instructor can devote extra time to that area of the exam. Likewise, if you need extra help with some of the content, you can schedule a time to talk with your instructor outside of class. During the sessions, you can also spend time as a class practicing test-taking strategies suited to the particular demands of the LSAT. These test-taking strategies can help you to answer questions more quickly and accurately during the test.
There are San Antonio LSAT prep class sessions that run for two or four weeks. When you register, you can pick how long you want to study, and you can choose a session that meets at a convenient time for you. All sessions take place online, so you don't have to worry about commuting. You can attend class from anywhere with an internet connection.
If you are interested in working with a San Antonio LSAT tutor, you and your tutor can design sessions that fit your needs. You can make a study plan that accommodates your goals, abilities, and learning style. This study plan can cover a lot of material to give you an overview of the exam, or you can plan to study one or two areas where you hope to make significant improvements. By using materials that suit your learning style, you can process and retain information more effectively as well. The instruction and feedback you receive during your sessions can help you to feel more comfortable with the material and can increase your ability to answer the types of questions that appear on the exam.
