Tutoring review by Tami in Fayetteville, GA
Today we started introducing geometric triangles and the difference between angles. First we reviewed the different types of angles. The student can easily identify obtuse vs. acute angles. He also knows the definition of a right angle and how that translates to right triangles. From here we moved on to the different types of triangles. He can easily identify quadrilateral and right triangles, and wanted more clarification with the scalene and isosceles triangles. We practiced the rules for each triangle and then he drew a few to discuss the difference between them. Once he was more comfortable with each type of triangle, we played online games to reinforced the concepts. By the end of the session, he felt more confident and was even able to defend his reasoning when labeling angles and triangles.

The student worked on homework from the textbook that covered the six trigonometric ratios of various right triangles, finding the remaining trig ratios given one, finding a trig ratio given a different trig ratio of the same triangle. When she finished her algebra 2/trig homework, we worked on chemistry homework covering solubility equilibrium, how it is effected by reducing/increasing the reactants or a product, and whether the equilibrium moves left/right.

The student's class has just started covering angle measure and conversion between radians and degrees. We spent the session familiarizing ourselves with recognizing the measure of an angle and expressing it in radians and degrees as well as drawing angles based on their measure given in angles or degrees. We also worked with recognizing and expressing co-terminal angles.

Tutoring review by Nathanael in Fayetteville, GA
In this session, we concluded our work on the student's term long assignments. Our work focused on finding the derivatives of very challenging compound functions, but also included work with the Fundamental Theorems of Calculus, the Total Value Theorem, and Riemann summations of graphs. As usual, we spent a small amount of time discussing the algebraic steps involved with these problems. I believe he has taken to heart my advice to slow down and work through problems methodically, it only remains to be seen whether he can follow through under the stressful conditions of his final exam.

The student's Geometry class is finishing up the school year with a final next week, so we went over the review packet handed out in class. For most of the review material the student had a good understanding of, but he was having some difficulty with some problems that involved algebra. We worked through the quadratic formula for some arc-related problems that required algebra and also reviewed finding surface area and volume of polygons. The student definitely showed improvements in double-checking work and explaining problem-solving methods.

Today, we went over the material for the student's test, including critical points, derivatives from a graph, and optimization. He seemed to have a positive attitude. I left him some extra problems on optimization for practice.
