Tutoring review by Jeffrey in Wauconda, IL
We worked through a homework packet covering various subjects. The student had some issues finding the zeroes of high-order polynomials, but after reminding her how to do synthetic division, she was much more successful. Problems also involved the equations, vertices and foci of parabolas. She was able to relate these as well as write out the equations in standard form. She had some trouble relating the directrix and focus to the vertex of a line, but we worked through a few problems until she could solve the both graphically and algebraically. I showed her how to find the asymptotes of hyperbolas as well.

Tutoring review by Lee in Wauconda, IL
Today we spent the first hour of the session working on chemistry. The student had two labs to work on in calorimetry. One of the labs involved burning snack foods and measuring the change of water temperature that absorbed the heat from the fire. We talked about sources of error for a while. We then started work on studying for his Geometry final. We went back to module 6 and re-took the pretest and the actual multiple choice test, and we wrote a cheat sheet for that module.

She recalled the majority of topics covered, struggling slightly only when solving for complementary and supplementary angles. She will review during the rest of the week.

The student and I reviewed for his philosophy final. He is doing a good job at remembering ideas and how they associate with particular philosophers. I've suggested reviewing exact questions from previous tests since this final will be comprehensive. From his notes, we have organized information to be chronological as the schools of thought evolved.

Tutoring review by Ali in Wauconda, IL
Tonight we worked primarily on a practice state assessment test that was 14 questions long. One thing that I learned during this session is that the student needs to work on memorizing formulas for area and that her biggest issue is time management. She is so positive and willing to keep trying, which makes for a successful session in my book! I plan to give her a few specific problems in our next session where she will need to explain her thought process in detail so I can continue uncovering her challenge areas.
