If you feel as though you could benefit from expert Detroit GMAT prep, Varsity Tutors can help you find either an online class or private tutoring services to help increase your self-confidence heading into exam day. The GMAT, or Graduate Management Admission Test, is a standardized exam written for grad-level business programs as one indication of how an applicant might fare while pursuing an MBA. Each institution weights your score differently, but many schools like the University of Detroit Mercy make it one of the most important parts of your application. Whether you're a working professional looking to enhance your resume or an undergraduate student trying to develop a more comprehensive understanding of the business landscape, it's important to do the best that you can on the GMAT.
That said, the GMAT is a challenging exam that you might find impossible to prepare for on your own. Every concept on the test is indicative of a real-world skill that business executives utilize on a daily basis, so you have a lot of material to cover. Let us find you a Detroit GMAT prep class or private instructor to help take the hassle out of preparing for test day!
What topics should I cover during my Detroit GMAT prep?
One of the simplest ways to approach test prep is to look at what skills you need in each section of the exam. The GMAT has a total of four sections: Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, Integrated Reasoning, and an Analytical Writing Assessment. The Verbal Reasoning section assesses a test-taker's command of the English language. It consists of 36 multiple-choice questions covering the following topics: reading comprehension, sentence completions, and critical thinking. Reading comprehension items measure how well you can retain and draw inferences from the material you read. Sentence completions evaluate your grammatical skills by asking you to adjust the underlined portion of a sentence for mechanical accuracy. Critical thinking items measure how well you can draft and analyze arguments and other plans of action. You have a total of 65 minutes for this section.
The GMAT's Quantitative Reasoning section assesses your data interpretation, quantitative problem-solving, and analytical thinking skills. It consists of 31 multiple-choice questions that can be split into two categories: data sufficiency and problem-solving. Data sufficiency items measure how well you understand how to solve a problem. Some of the info provided may be completely useless, so the volume of data alone is not enough to base your conclusion on. Problem-solving questions require you to use data to answer math problems, generally within a business context. You have 62 minutes to finish this section.
The assessment's Integrated Reasoning section evaluates a test-taker's ability to apply classroom knowledge in practical situations. It consists of 12 questions drawn from the following problem types: two-part analysis, graphical interpretation, table analysis, and multi-source reasoning. Two-part analysis problems require you to find the one answer that satisfies two sets of conditions, requiring bilateral thinking. Graphical interpretation measures how well you can read data in various graphic forms. Table analysis measures how well you can work with data stored in electronic spreadsheets. Finally, multi-source reasoning problems require you to synthesize information from multiple types of sources in order to arrive at an answer. You only have one half-hour to answer all of the questions in this section.
The GMAT's Analytical Writing Assessment is a 30-minute timed essay requiring test-takers to analyze an argument. You could be writing about anything, but you aren't expected to incorporate any prior knowledge into your response. Instead, you're graded on criteria such as topical analysis, syntactic variety, argumentation, organization, and grammar. You're encouraged to work from an outline to help you compose an effective piece of writing within the time allotted.
How can the different types of Detroit GMAT preparation help me study for the test?
We can help you find a Detroit GMAT prep course or a private instructor to help you pursue your potential. If you opt for a course, you will study on a live virtual platform with a knowledgeable instructor and several other students preparing for the test. We vet every instructor we work with, so you can trust that they have the content knowledge and proven test-taking strategies you're searching for. You can also interact with your classmates to create a collaborative learning environment where everyone can develop a deeper understanding of GMAT strategies. For instance, you might practice note-taking so that you don't need to go back through an entire reading passage or data source when you need to double-check something. Sharing your teacher with other students also allows you to split the cost, giving everyone involved more bang for their buck.
Alternatively, you can work with a Detroit GMAT tutor in a one-on-one learning environment. A private instructor can take the time to understand your unique needs and design sessions around your goals to enhance your study efficiency. Any questions you have can be answered in a timely manner, and you are free to study at your own pace. For example, there is no reason to keep going over the Quantitative Reasoning section if you are already confident about it. Instead, your study time is probably better spent on Analytical Writing or Integrated Reasoning.
Varsity Tutors also understands how busy you are, so we've designed our test prep options with your schedule in mind. If you choose a class, you get your choice of two or four-week sessions to help you find something that works for you. New classes are starting every week, so it's always a great time to get started. Alternatively, a private instructor can meet with you on your terms. Not only do you choose when to meet, but our exclusive Live Learning Platform also facilitates face-to-face study sessions online for maximal convenience. The beauty of Varsity Tutors is that we can take the hassle out of arranging standardized test prep!

My tutoring and teaching experience includes being a bootcamp Python and SQL instructor, teaching and tutoring a GMAT prep class, and tutoring math and computer programming in college. When I'm learning something for the first time, I try to break up what I don't know into approachable chunks. Then I work my way through each smaller block with a combination of reading, practice and reflection about how the chunk I'm working on fits into the bigger picture.

I have MS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Akron, Ohio. Currently, I am doing a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering at Texas Tech University, Lubbock. In my teaching experience, I have learned how to address the student's doubts in a class and keep them engaged. I have also dealt with the students who were struggling in the class and I helped them to stay motivated by giving them the best concepts.... Teaching is the best platform for the learning process. It helps us to psychologically deal with students of every level. By addressing student's doubts in a simpler manner, I make their concepts clear. Sometimes it's difficult to memorize formulas and equations. In those cases, I give students mnemonics so that the things they learn will be permanently stored in their mind.
