What can I learn in a Kansas City ACT prep course?
Kansas City ACT prep comes with many benefits, mainly stemming from the opportunity to practice the skills necessary to do well on your ACT under the supervision of an expert instructor. Your prep class or teacher can help make sure you've reviewed all the topics and skills found on the ACT.
The ACT is comprised of four required sections and an optional Writing assessment. The four requisite sections are assessing your Math, Reading, English, and Science skills. The entire exam takes about three hours if you elect to skip the Writing section. Let's take a closer look at each section of the ACT and what skills you'll want to review for each, starting with the optional Writing section.
The Writing assessment requires you to write a single essay response and adds 40 minutes to your exam experience. You'll be given a passage about an issue and three perspectives about the provided issue. You'll need to write your own viewpoint and analyze its connection with the given perspectives for this part of the exam. You'll be assessed on your ability to express yourself clearly and organize your thoughts in a concise and engaging manner.
The next section is the Math section and lasts an hour. You'll be answering 60 questions on pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, and trigonometry concepts. A prep class can help you review any topics within these mathematical courses from number systems to interpreting equations. You can also review different modeling and graphing concepts and brush up on your probabilities skills. Working on these types of problems with an instructor can help you review more easily and gain the confidence to navigate this section accurately.
The Reading section is a 40-question assessment which lasts 35 minutes. You'll be assessed on your reading comprehension skills and will need to be able to identify central ideas and themes in a given passage. You'll want to practice differentiating between opinion and fact in order to do well on this section of the exam. Working with an instructor to enhance your vocabulary can also be an asset when preparing for this section of the ACT.
The next section is the English section which consists of 75 questions measuring your understanding of English language skills. With ACT prep, you'll be able to review sentence construction, punctuation rules, and grammar. You'll only have 45 minutes to showcase these skills so working on these kinds of problems in your prep class can help you learn to work efficiently.
The final section is the Science section and has a time limit of 35 minutes. This sections will measure your retention of the concepts learned in chemistry, biology, physics, and earth or space sciences through eleventh grade. You'll need to answer 40 questions on topics using the investigation and experimental procedures found in the Scientific Method.
