Varsity Tutors is standing by to assist students in their college entrance exam preparations by helping them to find engaging Phoenix ACT preparation options. While many students won't have their first day of college for a few years still, it's never too soon to start thinking about how to get ready. For most high schoolers, it's the junior year that brings on thoughts of the college application process. The first step that many students will take - well before you start filling out your applications - is to take one of the widely accepted college admissions tests. For many students, including those at Gilbert Classical Academy High School and Phoenix Union Bioscience High School, that may be the ACT. Your ACT score could be a deciding factor in your admission to a college that you've had your heart set on. As such, you will want to put your best effort into it.
The ACT is made up of five distinct sections. Whether you are just starting out in your preparations or you have been getting ready for the test for a long time, your goal should be to face the test feeling confident and prepared. If you are wondering how you can increase your skills and expand your content knowledge before test day, Varsity Tutors can help you find the extra help that you need by setting you up with a Phoenix ACT tutor. You may, however, be more interested in a Phoenix ACT prep course. In that case, we can help enroll you in a class that that is convenient and that fits into your hectic life. No matter the type of study help you need, we are eager to guide you toward the right option.
What can Phoenix ACT prep cover?
The ACT is comprised of four sections that include English, Math, Reading, and Science, as well as a Writing section that is completely optional. If you choose to forego the Writing portion, you can expect around three hours in total to complete the four mandatory sections. With the ACT Plus Writing, you are looking at the addition of 40 minutes to your testing time. To give you a better sense of the types of material and topics that you are likely to experience on the test we can begin to break down the individual sections.
The English section requires you to edit and revise a text. There are some questions that may focus on the passage as a whole, while others may just be concerned with a smaller section - even if that is only a single sentence or a handful of words. You will be required to make judgments on the style, grammar and usage, and tone of the written sections. You are allowed a total of 45 minutes to answer 75 questions, which means that efficiency will be important.
In the Math section, you will be tested on many of the basic skills that you are expected to have learned through your school years. The total time given to complete this portion of the test is 60 minutes, with an equal number of questions. One minute per question can certainly seem like a reasonable amount of time to complete this portion, but it still requires a good amount of focus to stay on target and to keep your answers as accurate as possible.
Following Math is the Reading section, which deals with your overall comprehension abilities instead of the writing mechanics found in the English portion. You will be measured on your reasoning skills, along with your ability to read closely and make decisions based on multiple sources. You are allowed a total of 35 minutes to answer 40 questions.
The Science section rounds out the four required portions of the test. For this, you will be given 40 multiple choice questions and a total of 35 minutes in which to complete them. Expect this part of the test to measure your scientific analysis skills, as well as your ability to effectively reason and problem-solve. You are likely to see questions from the topics of physics, chemistry, Earth sciences, and biology.
The final portion of the test is the optional Writing section. This section gives you a total of 40 minutes in which you are to write an essay on a single topic. If you plan on taking this section, you should plan on creating an essay that clearly written, logically developed, and full of well-supported ideas and strong reasoning throughout. It's very important that you show a strong command of the English language.
What are the benefits of the different types of Phoenix ACT prep?
Varsity Tutors can guide you toward two very effective methods of intensive ACT study: prep courses and private tutoring. Both of these options have benefits, and you may find that you enjoy aspects of each. Let's look at the ways that a Phoenix ACT prep class or a tutoring session could impact your learning.
A fully interactive online Phoenix ACT prep class could be just the thing that you need to help you feel more prepared for your test. You can benefit from a highly knowledgeable instructor who can share important insights with you and your classmates. What's more, you can interact with your instructor and fellow students to further your learning and ask questions. If you find yourself still wondering about a topic covered in class, you can even set up a one on one meeting between yourself and the instructor. Classes are available in two week or four-week options, with new classes beginning every week.
For those who prefer a more personalized approach, tutoring may be the option for you. You can get a fully customized learning experience curated by an expert in the test. They can get to know your personal learning style and develop content that plays to your strengths while correcting your weaknesses. They also offer the benefit of a flexible schedule as well.

I look forward to simplifying learning and making it fun! I am a high school math teacher. I am teaching Geometry and Personal Finance this year, but I have also taught Algebra I, Algebra II, and College Algebra. I also co-teach the SAT and ACT prep courses for my school. On my time off, I enjoy spending time with my family, working out, and reading. ... I believe in students being able to master anything they practice, but it is much easier if they have a teacher that can break it down into simple steps.
