The Indianapolis School System

Indianapolis, Indiana, is the state capital and one of the largest cities in the Midwest, with a population of almost 863,000 in city limits and approximately 2 million in the greater metropolitan area. The area’s nine public school districts serve nearly 100,000 students.

As a parent, it can be overwhelming to send your child to their first day of school, especially if the school district is as large as the one in Indianapolis. Parents always want the best for their children, and the school your child attends can be a crucial factor in their learning success. Varsity Tutors can help by connecting you with experienced Indianapolis tutors who give your child undivided attention. Consider the assessment scores of these Indianapolis high schools.

Indianapolis Test Scores

Like everywhere else in the country, students in must prepare for nationally recognized exams such as the ACT and the SAT. Until recently they also had to prepare themselves for the ISTEP exams. However, in 2017 the Indiana State Senate approved a bill which would allow for the formation of a new testing procedure named ILEARN. Rolling out in 2019, these new assessments have many parents worried about how their child will prepare and perform.

If your child is preparing for an upcoming exam, a personal tutor can help. Experienced tutors can help your child solidify their subject area understanding, but they can also help students who need to strengthen their testing skills. Taking a test is about far more than merely understanding the material. It also involves time management strategies and organizational skills that go beyond subject area knowledge.

Even if your child attends one of the best schools in the city, they can benefit from private tutoring. Indianapolis has many high performing high schools. Nearly all the top schools in the city are also within the top 100 high schools in the state, and several make the top ten. Below you can see how the best high schools in Indianapolis compare to other high schools in Indiana.

Tutoring review by Sophie Paulette in Indianapolis, IN
Today the student and I read Bunnicula together. He read a lot, and if he didn't understand something about the plot or the characters, he asked me. I made a list of words he mispronounced and we went over it together. Then we did some reading comprehension. I explained his mistakes and then I asked him to write a passage about his summer. I proofread and explained punctuation to him, and in our next session we'll work on his mini-essay.

We openly discussed ideas and meaning of the text as it applied to each element of TRACE. He will continue to develop his rough draft for review next week before submitting it for editing during our next meeting.

We covered acids and bases, and properties of salt solutions. The student has a great attitude toward his work, and he understands everything that we have been going over. Tutoring review by Paris in Indianapolis, IN
We covered redox reactions and determining oxidation numbers during this session. She had trouble with trying to determine whether a reaction is a redox reaction based off the oxidation numbers, and she especially had a hard time finding out the oxidation numbers of each element and why it is so. However by the conclusion of our session, she was more confident and she was better able to understand why each element has the oxidation number that it has.
