Tutoring review by Melania in Marion, TN
We reviewed the student's homework assignment which focused on multiplying fractions and whole numbers. The student was able to model the different problems utilizing diagrams representing the whole number and fraction components of each problem. She struggled with a few of the problems since she was simply basing them off of previous problems and not conceptualizing the problem at hand. We also discussed how different strategies would apply to certain problems depending on the fractional part of the calculation. I also showed her how to simply multiply fractions and whole numbers without using a diagram, which she immediately comprehended.

In this session we covered parabolas. The student picked up on it rather quickly but still would miss minor details occasionally. Graphs make sense to him, so he did very well during the session.

Tutoring review by Kathryn in Marion, TN
The student was engaged and attentive. We focused on reading and reading comprehension today. We read 2 stories today, with me reading to her. I asked her questions throughout the stories and at the end to test what she understood and remembered from the stories. She accurately answered all my questions and asked her own questions, demonstrating her interest in the stories. We also worked on her writing, and I was impressed with what she was able to write and spell correctly. She also understands the concept of a letter and envelope and the "to/from" part of sending a letter.

Tutoring review by Travis in Marion, TN
Today, we looked at hybridization of orbitals mixed with nonhybridized orbitals. We looked at single bonds, double bonds, and triple bonds, and then we drew them. We showed sigma and pi bonds and discussed the nonhybridized p orbitals, which are used in double and triple bonds (1 pair for a double bond, and 2 pairs for a triple bond). We also talked about paramagnetic and diamagnetic properties of covalent and ionic bonds using molecular orbital theory. We started with a review of molecular orbital theory and worked through all the diatomics starting with Hydrogen and working up to Neon.

We worked on the student's geometry homework on acute angles, right angles, quadrilaterals, and triangles. We also covered identifying shapes and the characteristics of these shapes. We created a chart based on which shapes had 2 pairs of parallel lines. We then went over some of her reading comprehension homework that I gave her, and I gave her some tips for using the questions to identify her answers in the text. She has 3 questions to redo for homework based on the tips.

Tutoring review by Hannah in Marion, TN
In today's session, the student worked on practice problems on electrostatics in preparation for his physics exam tomorrow. In the majority of the questions we looked at, multiple steps were involved and some type of visual representation was needed. His biggest difficulty has been on where exactly to start with a question, but with electrostatics, that will always be creating a drawing to explain what the problem is saying, which I hope was made clear to him. Once this is done, the rest of the problem is algebra heavy, which he is very good at, and thus shouldn't be a problem for him. However, it will be so key that he continues to draw out these questions on his exam tomorrow.
