Today we worked on calculating tax percentages, discounts, and percentages of numbers. We also worked on probability and writing the equations of lines depicted in a graph. We used the formula for slope to find m when finding the equation of the line. The student is a quick learner of concepts and we were able to solve seven probability problems, six percentage problems, and six graphing problems.

Tutoring review by Kristina in Whitehall, PA
The student and I met to review for his upcoming math placement test. We used a sample version found online, which included material he has covered. He did well throughout the test, especially with probability, solving for missing variables and following order of operations. He has also continued to improve his ability to tackle word problems. However, he did have a little trouble with word problems that included fractions. It was hard for him to figure out which operation was needed to find the answer. We walked through a few of these problems together, and I suggested that he continue to review for his test. Other sample tests are provided online.
