The GMAT is an important part of many business school applications. Schools such as Creighton University or the University of Nebraska at Omaha may look at your GMAT score when you apply. Because a high GMAT score can have a significant impact on your academic career, it is important to study well.

The GMAT is a three and a half hour exam that assesses a person's readiness for the challenges of business school. Some people take the GMAT directly after their college years because they plan to go on to business school. Many people take the GMAT while they are in the workforce because they want to experience the benefits that a business school degree can bring to their career.

What can I study during Omaha GMAT prep?

There are four main sections of the GMAT that you will go through. These sections are Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, Integrated Reasoning, and an Analytical Writing Assessment. You are able to arrange these sections in one of three orders on the day of the test to customize your experience. Each section contains certain skills and knowledge that you are expected to know. To give you a broad overview, here is the layout and content of these sections.

The Verbal Reasoning section is based on your ability to solve problems that are based on written data. You must understand the question, analyze the data, and think critically to answer these questions well. This section displays your ability to evaluate arguments, use the English language effectively, and draw inferences. There are 36 questions in this section, and you will have 65 minutes to complete them. These questions are all in multiple-choice format. This section, as well as the Quantitative Reasoning section, is scored from 0 to 60. However, scores from 6 to 51 are most common for these sections.

The Quantitative Reasoning section of the GMAT contains 31 multiple-choice questions that are focused on your ability to apply logic and mathematical reasoning to problems based on objective data. For some of these questions, you must use the provided data to answer the question. For others, you must determine whether the data provided is sufficient to answer the questions. Your analytical, mathematical, and logic abilities will be tested throughout the 62 minutes of this section.

During the Integrated Reasoning section, you will encounter data that comes from several different types of sources. While some of the 12 questions in this section will only require you to analyze one data source, some will require you to work with a combination of tables, graphs, numbers, or text to solve complex questions. You will need to evaluate trade-offs and identify the relationships between multiple data points to score well in this section. You will have half an hour to complete this portion of the exam, and you will get a score between 1 and 8.

In the Analytical Writing Assessment, you will read a provided piece and evaluate the strength of the argument that is made in that piece. You will then write a response that details your findings. Throughout this 30-minute section, you will need to display an awareness of English conventions, effective argumentation, ways to organize your writing, and evidence-based writing. You will receive a score from 0 to 6 on this section.
