What can a Sacramento ACT prep course cover?

The ACT is a comprehensive exam that serves as a measurement of your academic skills and abilities. The ACT covers four sections: Math, Reading, English, and Science. You will have two hours and 55 minutes to complete it. You can opt to take the ACT Plus Writing, which adds a Writing section and 40 minutes to the test. One key feature of this exam is that it only counts the correct answers. You can score between 1 and 36 points on each main section, aside from the Writing section. Let's take a deeper look at the exam.

You will have one hour to complete the Math section, which consists of 60 questions. The multiple-choice questions focus on the various math skills you should have gained throughout your education, such as trigonometry, elementary and intermediate algebra, and coordinate geometry. This section does allow you to use certain types of calculators.

Next is the Reading section, a 35-minute portion that presents 40 passage-based questions. This section can demonstrate your reading comprehension on a collegiate basis. You will need to read the passage carefully while working efficiently to finish within the allotted time frame. There are several concepts this section focuses on, such as your ability to differentiate between fact and opinion, summarize ideas, and draw connections from various texts.

From there you will face the English section. There are 75 questions that you must complete within 45 minutes. You will need to demonstrate a strong grasp of a variety of concepts, including tone and style of language, topic development, sentence structure, and grammar. The questions are based on passages and may focus on a portion or the full text.

The Science section allows up to 35 minutes to answer its 40 questions. The questions focus on subjects like Earth and space science, biology, and physics. The multiple-choice questions serve to assess your ability to interpret, analyze, evaluate, reason, and solve problems. You will need to be able to work with a variety of different data formats, as well as understand the scientific method, procedures and tools, and other concepts for this portion.

If you choose to include the Writing section, you will have 40 minutes to respond to one question. Your essay response is scored on a scale of 2-12. The question will focus on an issue from three different perspectives. Your task will be to offer your own opinion while drawing connections between your and one of the presented perspectives. The skills measured by this section focus on the skills taught throughout your high school-level English classes, such as organization, reasoning, and comparison.
