Tutoring review by Lauren in Ansonia, CT
The student and I practiced her fluency. She read a passage twice and graphed how many words she read correctly in one minute. We then reviewed the meaning of nouns and pronouns. After reviewing the meaning of pronouns we played two pronoun games. I also quizzed her on some of her multiplication facts. I left her with some multiplication cards as well. In addition, she solved two math word problems. She had to draw a picture to show how she was solving the problem and identify whether the word problem was requiring addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division. Finally, she responded to a writing prompt in complete sentences. Moving forward, I want to review all 7 parts of speech with her, for example verbs, adjectives, and adverbs. I want to continue practicing math word problems, fluency, and multiplication fluency. I left her with a Nancy Drew book and asked her to read the first chapter. I will ask her some comprehension questions about the first chapter next time I see her.

The student is improving a lot! We reviewed her most recent practice exam and she did very well on the whole. She struggled a bit with CARS but showed huge improvement in Phys/ Chem. Many of the questions she missed were not related to content or her understanding. I encouraged her to do as many practice questions as possible rather than focusing on major content review.

We covered solving for systems of equations. We solved about 2 problems and went over the Challenge Problem assigned by the teacher. The student seemed to be very familiar with the material and only struggled with the difficult ones.

Tutoring review by Jessica in Ansonia, CT
This session was spent going through the remainder of the student's social history PBA essay. I was impressed to see that she'd taken it upon herself to ask for a extension from her teacher. In the past, she has simply not turned in a late project and then turned it in later on her own time. It was good to see that she went to her teacher and explained the problem at hand. I was very happy to see this. I was also glad that she had taken the drafts from our previous work together and added it into another, more clean draft for the essay. I had her move through the page so that we could re-read, add or take away information here and there, and clean up the grammar and clarifying points made. Although I left our session knowing that she had much more to do on the essay, I thought that her work towards this assignment has shown at least some level of improvement on her organizational skills.
