How much does Varsity Tutors cost for students in New Haven?

The cost of tutoring for students in New Haven depends on what exactly you want out of this learning opportunity. For example, maybe you're a professional who's getting ready to take the Series 7 exam.

In that case, you may only need a few test prep sessions with a tutor before the big day. Or, maybe you want to get your student help with foundational skills in reading, writing, or science. Both the types of subjects that you want to cover and the number of sessions that you sign up for initially can impact your per lesson price. You might even be able to reduce your per-lesson price by signing up for more sessions. You can reach out to us directly if you'd like to get more personalized pricing information.

Which tutoring subjects does Varsity Tutors offer for students in New Haven?

A tutor for students in New Haven can help you learn more about almost anything. For example, you might be struggling with your grade in a math course like geometry.

A tutor could build upon the work you've done in the classroom to help you turn that around. Or maybe you're taking a French class at Hamden Hall Country Day School and you'd like to get more out of it. A tutor could help you with that as well. Your private instructor can work with you on physics homework, help you explore the finer points of psychology, and everything in-between. The student is preparing for his math assessment test, so we actually spent this session reviewing some practice problems that his teacher gave him.  The problems included review of both algebra 1 and geometry. We were able to cover how to work with and graph functions, inequalities, and word problems.

The student and I covered material that she had for her final this week. It covered the entire breadth of statistics, from population parameters, to hypothesis testing, to regression analysis. We were able to compare the different test statistics with each other, when each one should be used, or what information needs to be given to perform a specific test.

The student and I read a non-fiction piece that was about his grade level. He did pretty well with the words when I reminded him to sound them out. The purpose was to see if he was comprehending what he was reading. We had to discuss some of the vocab. We will work on fluency next time. We also worked on sections of a hundreds chart. He did fine with the patterns and addition work, and his number sense will increase once he is able to finish these assignments quickly.

We went over topics for the quiz later this week.  She knew most of the material.  Usually she misses only a step or some small detail.  I think she understands a few of the problems better.

Tutoring review by Frank in New Haven, CT
I met the student to go over her test and to help her prepare for her next text. We went over the problems on the test and found that to the most part, she actually understood the concept but under time pressure of the test, she misapplied the concepts and/or made calculation errors.  Once concept that was missed more than others was the chain rule.  We did a number of problems that emphasized the chain rule and I was careful to let the student make and correct her own mistakes.  The new test will be on the product rule and the quotient rule.  We first went over the basic concepts and then did a variety of problems that utilized chain rule, product rule and quotient rule together.  I left the student a worksheet with about 25 problems to do for homework.
