Princeton Tutoring FAQ

How much does Varsity Tutors cost for students in Princeton?

The cost of tutoring for students in Princeton is typically a significant concern for most considering it. Pricing relies on understanding a few variables.

The complexity of the tutoring required is one of those variables. You might be quoted one price for a grade school student who needs help with basic reading comprehension and another for someone who needs help understanding authors like Faulkner. The number of sessions you're looking for can also influence your total expense. For instance, a student looking for a semester's worth of weekly tutoring on anatomy might pay less per session than a student who only wants a couple of weeks of cramming ahead of the MCAT.

Which tutoring subjects does Varsity Tutors offer for students in Princeton?

We can set you up with a tutor for students in Princeton on almost any topic. From long division to long-tail business models, writing book reviews in fifth grade to writing your thesis on British literature, science fair experiments to full-blown scientific studies - we have you covered.

It's not just about learning that can be applied in the classroom. Say, for example, you're trying to improve your odds of gaining a promotion at work. The student and I continued the last push for reading today. She scored either a 26 or 27 on this one, using the same techniques that we did last time. I timed her for each section, so now she knows the "feeling" of doing about 9 minutes per passage.

The student has an exam on Tuesday, so we split the session going over her homework and the review for the exam.  The material was a continuation of angular velocity and translating the trig functions on graphs. The review covered everything that we have gone over in the past week - solving for the trig functions, using the trig identities, word problems, etc. Overall, the student did great. She definitely has the potential to do well on the exam.

Tutoring review by Annie in Princeton, NJ
Today was my first meeting with the student.  I was impressed by her ambition, intelligence, and maturity!  We began with a review of math fundamentals.  We reviewed the rules that always hold true for odd and even number, such as an odd + odd = even.  We did a 12 problem practice drill using the 'Plugging In' technique. There was only one problem that we didn't have the exact answer for.  Most of these problems involved turning written questions into numerical expressions.  The student did really well with this concept.  We also reviewed geometry and I learned which type of problems give her trouble (congruent angles/degree measurements).  Finally, we discussed the written part of the test.  I gave the student a book of SAT writing prompts which she believes will be helpful.  We plan to meet again on Monday at 1pm.

Tutoring review by Caroline in Princeton, NJ
The student is studying area of trapezoids and triangles. We worked through his homework and as we were working, I noticed that he did not fully understand order of operations in math so I made up more problems for him to work on that. I think by the end, he had a better understanding of "PEMDAS" and I plan to check for any other basic math skills that may have slipped through the cracks. I stressed to him that he needs to have this good foundation before he moves into harder math classes.
