Tutoring review by Lindsey in Bridgewater, MI
The problems required her to solve problems with numbers with negative exponents and to rewrite variables with negative exponents to have positive exponents. As with many of the new algebraic rules, the student struggled at first to understand the rules and procedures to solving these problems, but after practice and seeing how it works, she was able to solve them successfully on her own. I attempted to show her a few shortcuts after she understood how to solve them the long way.

Tutoring review by Stephanie in Bridgewater, MI
For our last session, the student and I finished our final review of all the topics from her 6th grade math curriculum. She did an amazing job perfectly finding the volume of prisms, finding the measures of complementary and supplementary angles, finding the sum of angles in a triangle, as well as finding the surface area of various solids. Overall, I am so extremely pleased with her progress. She was a model student! She always did all of the homework that I assigned and wholeheartedly participated during our sessions. I had a wonderful time working with her this summer and wish her the best of luck for her future!

Tutoring review by Samantha in Bridgewater, MI
The student and I focused today on the science section of the ACT. Given his extended time accommodation, he is doing fine with timing. He is scoring about an 18 or a 19 on the science section, making it one of his strongest areas. He needs to work on carefully identifying what information he needs on the graphs and ignoring the unimportant information. We will continue to refine this skill.

Tutoring review by Savannah in Bridgewater, MI
We worked on order of operations and isolating variables in equations to solve for those variables. The student seems to struggle with looking at an equation and deciding what to do first, as well as the order of operations when multiple operations are present. Additionally, he spends a lot of time trying to multiply or subtract numbers. However, he has a fantastic attitude. He is aware that he has difficulty with the concepts and has always struggled with math, but he always kept trying. He was excited when he understood a concept and seemed to pick up the steps of solving an equation very quickly. As far as strategies, I helped him with some of his basic multiplication and how to approach each equation ("our goal is to get the letter on one side, the number on the other"). I left him with a multiplication table to practice with so that he can become faster when multiplying numbers. I feel that after working through several problems step by step, he has a better sense of how to work with different operations. He said he feels more comfortable with the material.
