Tutoring review by Christine in Hamburg, MI
During our session, the student and I covered geometry, specifically chapter 8 in her textbook. We went through the examples in the book, then we solved problems at the end of the chapter for practice and to reinforce the concepts she would encounter on the test. We also made a study guide together so that she could review everything we covered in a condensed, easy to read form. The student seemed very confident by the end of the session!

Tutoring review by Sherri in Hamburg, MI
Today the student and I started working out of her Algebra 1 state assessment prep book. After reviewing her homework on the concept of identities/ inverse operations canceling each other out, we began to work on solving algebraic equations. The equations included fractions, decimals, distributive property, and several other variations. After going through the technique of solving for the variable, we then reviewed which property was being used during each step. Finally, we solved algebraic equations with all variables using the same concept of isolating the variable we are solving for. She had a little trouble with her homework. I plan to go over the property again next session. I felt the work we did today involving properties will help the concept stick. She enjoys expressing her prior knowledge of the subject. I plan to try using her willingness to express herself by encouraging her to illustrate the concepts we discuss in her own words.

We covered solving equations using two step process. The student completed his homework and also went over previous sections for his quiz. He did well completing his homework. I have asked him to redo those problems that he got incorrect as we were short on time to go over the test he had last week.

Today the student worked on her math review packet for chapter 3. We covered such topics as graphing complex polynomials, finding zeros of polynomials, and synthetic division using complex polynomials. She did really well with all the material, and she just needs to continue practicing graphing complex polynomials in order to become more comfortable with them.

Tutoring review by Brandon in Hamburg, MI
The student and I started with a practice test on Reading, where he did very well on most of the passages, but struggled with a passage that used some older language. We went through the answers for that passage and then moved on to a math practice test. He is very solid on Math at this point and rarely missing too many questions.

Tutoring review by Steven in Hamburg, MI
The student was struggling a bit with coming up with linear functions given points and slopes, but he seemed to have a good handle on the parts of the process. The main challenge was putting them together, so we developed strategies for "automatic" steps that would help put the parts he knew in an order he could remember. We will continue with graphs and other operations tomorrow.
