Tutoring review by Michael in Willis, MI
The student is covering bearings and vectors in class. Once they are broken down to a direction and magnitude, they can be solved using the trig skills that she has already built. By the end of the session she seemed much more comfortable adding vectors. At the beginning of the session, the student's mom requested that we spend more time during our sessions focusing on theory. This is a great suggestion that I believe already had a positive impact on today's session. I will continue to work more theory into our future sessions.

Tutoring review by Kathleen in Willis, MI
I begin each session with a short quiz on the operations on fractions. Although the calculator can be used to solve such problems, it is necessary for the student to learn without the calculator for when she is not able to use it. She took an algebra test multiple choice portion to continue prepping for the test. She left about 1/4 of the questions unanswered.

Tutoring review by Beverly in Willis, MI
During this afternoon's session, the student and I reviewed her homework for sections 9.5 and 10.1. We discussed several concepts including the area of polygons, visualizing and drawing nets for polygons, and Euler's formula. I helped her with some strategies for visualizing and drawing these types of problems. I was excited to hear that she received a perfect score on her Chapter 8 exam! She has consistently shown her commitment to and knowledge of geometry. I'm very proud of how she is progressing in the class.

Tutoring review by Jonathan in Willis, MI
The student and I spent our last session working through a series of practice problems to prepare for his final that he would be taking directly after our session. Since we had reviewed the material previously, we were able to jump directly into an intensive drill exercise. I assigned him a series of questions from multiple sections at a time and we compared answers once he finished a set. We worked at a quick pace, and so we were able to review each and every section to be covered. Overall, he had a very solid understanding of all the material. There were a few specific problem types that I had to explain in more detail including operations involving scientific notation and solving for quadratics but once I reminded him of these techniques, he remembered how to apply them.

Tutoring review by Meghan in Willis, MI
The student and I went through more literal equations. He really struggles with equations, especially when there are multiple variables in the equation. I had him go through several examples slowly. When he seemed to have a handle on the literal equations, I introduced the concept of systems of equations. This was very difficult for him; he had a lot of trouble solving for one variable and then using that variable in the other equation. We went through the process together and I kept the example simple. Even though he was struggling, he put in a solid effort during our session. He wants to learn the concepts and be able to apply them. I have no doubt this will happen soon.
