I am passionate about education, learning, teaching, and specifically literatures and languages. I have experience as an ESL teacher for young children and teens, as well as experience working as a Writing Consultant at my undergraduate institution. I also spent all four years of my undergraduate career volunteering as an SAT tutor for local high schoolers. Beyond this, I have experience both as a private and public Spanish tutor. I love to help students reach their educational and personal goals in any way that I can.

I am currently pursuing a Master's degree in violin performance at the Juilliard School. I have tutored privately and through Chegg Tutoring, Varsity Tutors, PrepExpert, and iLearn World throughout high school and college, with most of my experience being in standardized test prep and English. The most fulfilling moments that I have with my students are when I see them applying previous lessons and skills to new challenges. I am a current student at the University of Chicago. I am working towards a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences, and I am on the pre-medical track. I am extremely passionate about tutoring, and I have several years of experience tutoring students in my high school's learning center in various subjects as well as tutoring private clients in Standardized Test preparation. Given that I graduated high school recently, I have taken several Standardized Tests and high school subjects myself, so I have a comprehensive understanding of not only how to tutor these subjects and exams, but also what it is like to take them. I am starting graduate school in September of 2024 (PhD in clinical psychology at UMass Boston). Throughout high school, I tutored all subjects at a nearby elementary school. I am a graduate of the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelors of Arts in English and Philosophy. I am a graduate of the University of Michigan, where I received my Bachelor of Arts in Brain Behavior & Cognitive Science and Latin American & Caribbean Studies. During my undergraduate years I studied Spanish and Portuguese, as well as the cognitive mechanisms by which we learn languages such as Spanish and Portuguese. I was trained as a total immersion language instructor by the Ann Arbor Language Partnership and taught Communicative Spanish classes in the Ann Arbor Public School System for two years. I left Michigan for Nicaragua to work with a local nonprofit where I advocated for improved access to education in disenfranchised communities, managed an international volunteer program, and taught English as a Foreign Language to middle and high school students. While I tutor a broad range of other subjects, I am most passionate about teaching (and learning!) languagesespecially Spanish. I believe that the role of Spanish as an essential communicative and cultural tool should not be lost in classroom instruction, especially in a society where Spanish plays an ever more important role in our daily lives. I am passionate about students learning the wonderful Spanish language! I teach all levels of Spanish, including Conversational Spanish and SAT Subject Tests. While I am not Hispanic, I took Spanish classes every year from the second grade through high school. I then went to Rice University for college, where I took a Spanish class every semester, including a medical Spanish interpreting internship. After that I went to medical school, where I worked as a Spanish medical interpreter for doctors and launched a Medical Spanish curriculum. I also love movies, music, and books in Spanish. I know what it's like approaching this language from the outside, and I have a lot of helpful tricks to break down and simplify the language. I am a senior at Yale studyung Neuroscience and History of Science, Medicine, and Public Health. I am a graduate of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme and a recipient of the IB Diploma. My academic background includes extensive experience in rigorous college level classes at the IB and Advanced Placement (AP) level. As a member of my school's math honor society, Mu Alpha Theta, I have volunteered my time at a local middle school to tutor students in different math levels from pre-Algebra to Geometry. I am a graduate of Dartmouth College, where I received a B.A. in Comparative Literature, with a focus on Spanish and Performance Studies. At Dartmouth, I T.A.'d Spanish classes for all 4 years using the Rassias method, an individualized approach that aims to build fluency by focusing on verb structure, syntax, and pronunciation. I am an undergraduate student at the University of Chicago, working towards a pre-med double major in Psychology and Biology (with a specialization in Neuroscience). Beginning in my early teens, I began working and volunteering as a tutor in a variety of environments: I began as a volunteer at a summer program for underprivileged children at the Learning and Tutoring Center of East Austin, and since I have worked as a private elementary school tutor, a private SAT-prep tutor, and a preschool tutor for the Neighborhood Schools Program in South Side Chicago. I have taken, and succeeded in, a broad range of Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) classes, and am familiar with the latest formats, question varieties, and scoring guidelines of these standardized tests, along with the SAT. My teaching philosophy is to go beyond "teaching to the test". Although test-taking skills are crucial for any assessment, I believe the most valuable thing a tutor can do is to enhance and help develop conceptual understanding in our clients. I believe that once a student understands something at the conceptual level, he or she will be much better prepared for the topic, not only in the specific test we are preparing for, but anywhere else it may come up. Memorizing words or equations might help somebody in the short term, but understanding why that word means what it means, or what an equation is actually depicting is worth the extra effort. Besides test-prep I think I can be a great help in writing and editing, as I have experience in everything from short, timed essays such as the SAT essay, to college essays, to research papers such as the IB Extended Essay. I am a recent graduate of Bowdoin College with a BA in Biology, English, and Theater.
