I am currently pursuing a Master's degree in violin performance at the Juilliard School. I have tutored privately and through Chegg Tutoring, Varsity Tutors, PrepExpert, and iLearn World throughout high school and college, with most of my experience being in standardized test prep and English. The most fulfilling moments that I have with my students are when I see them applying previous lessons and skills to new challenges. I believe that a good teacher not only helps a student tackle specific, formulaic kinds of questions, but also imparts the skills necessary for adapting to the diverse intellectual challenges that life presents. My goal is always for my students to leave their sessions having learned something that will be useful for years to come, not just on the next test that they are preparing for. After all, education is a lifelong process!

BA University of Chicago
6+ Years Tutoring

I am a current student at the University of Chicago. I am working towards a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences, and I am on the pre-medical track. I am extremely passionate about tutoring, and I have several years of experience tutoring students in my high school's learning center in various subjects as well as tutoring private clients in Standardized Test preparation. Given that I graduated high school recently, I have taken several Standardized Tests and high school subjects myself, so I have a comprehensive understanding of not only how to tutor these subjects and exams, but also what it is like to take them. While I have a wide range of interests and am able to tutor various subjects, I am most passionate about tutoring in Standardized Test preparation (including ACT, SAT, SAT Subject Tests, and AP Exams), Biology, Chemistry, Math, and Spanish. I truly believe that students should have the opportunity to learn in the way that works best for them, and I love being able to help them succeed by creating a comfortable tutoring environment in which we can best assess their particular needs and use strategies specific to them. My passion for learning drives everything that I do, and tutoring is the platform that I use to try to spread that passion to others. In my free time, you can find me playing badminton, listening to music, or baking something (hopefully) delicious.

I am starting graduate school in September of 2024 (PhD in clinical psychology at UMass Boston). Throughout high school, I tutored all subjects at a nearby elementary school. I also tutored another high school student in Spanish, at the request of my Spanish teacher. Before college, I took a gap year to pursue music. During the gap year, I tutored a neighborhood seventh-grade girl in math and writing. Over the years, I have come to better understand how much I enjoy providing one-on-one support to children. I have been particularly successful in helping children who easily get frustrated and lose patience. As a recent student, I would be very excited to help others feel confident in their schoolwork. I understand the stress and frustration that can come with academics, and I would love to help students turn those feelings into pride, confidence, and enjoyment of learning. Please message me if you are interested or would like to learn more! I'd love to meet you.

I am a graduate of the University of Michigan, where I received my Bachelor of Arts in Brain Behavior & Cognitive Science and Latin American & Caribbean Studies. During my undergraduate years I studied Spanish and Portuguese, as well as the cognitive mechanisms by which we learn languages such as Spanish and Portuguese. I was trained as a total immersion language instructor by the Ann Arbor Language Partnership and taught Communicative Spanish classes in the Ann Arbor Public School System for two years. I left Michigan for Nicaragua to work with a local nonprofit where I advocated for improved access to education in disenfranchised communities, managed an international volunteer program, and taught English as a Foreign Language to middle and high school students. While I tutor a broad range of other subjects, I am most passionate about teaching (and learning!) languagesespecially Spanish. I believe that the role of Spanish as an essential communicative and cultural tool should not be lost in classroom instruction, especially in a society where Spanish plays an ever more important role in our daily lives. Central to my personal philosophy is that learning languages should be fun, and I thoroughly enjoy making language personally relevant and interesting for my students. In my experience, this approach helps facilitate the best learning. In my spare time in enjoy biking, running, hiking, camping and cookingmost of which I can do with my dog Calala.

Another subject I enjoy tutoring is Standardized Testing, where I help high school students prepare for exams like the SAT, PSAT, and ACT. Preparing for these exams is crucial in order to achieve a good score, and I always make sure that my students are comfortable with both the format and the material on each exam. As a student, I know how important tutoring is, not only to improve grades but also to gain a better understanding of the material. Whenever I dedicate time to tutoring, I try to keep things engaging and fun. I am an undergraduate student at the University of Chicago, working towards a pre-med double major in Psychology and Biology (with a specialization in Neuroscience). Beginning in my early teens, I began working and volunteering as a tutor in a variety of environments: I began as a volunteer at a summer program for underprivileged children at the Learning and Tutoring Center of East Austin, and since I have worked as a private elementary school tutor, a private SAT-prep tutor, and a preschool tutor for the Neighborhood Schools Program in South Side Chicago. I have taken, and succeeded in, a broad range of Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) classes, and am familiar with the latest formats, question varieties, and scoring guidelines of these standardized tests, along with the SAT. My teaching philosophy is to go beyond "teaching to the test". Although test-taking skills are crucial for any assessment, I believe the most valuable thing a tutor can do is to enhance and help develop conceptual understanding in our clients. I believe that once a student understands something at the conceptual level, he or she will be much better prepared for the topic, not only in the specific test we are preparing for, but anywhere else it may come up. Memorizing words or equations might help somebody in the short term, but understanding why that word means what it means, or what an equation is actually depicting is worth the extra effort. Besides test-prep I think I can be a great help in writing and editing, as I have experience in everything from short, timed essays such as the SAT essay, to college essays, to research papers such as the IB Extended Essay. I am fully fluent in Spanish for anyone who wishes to communicate in or practice the language.

I strongly believe that a tutor must treat his or her student as a teammate and not as someone who merely needs instruction. The goal of any tutoring session should be to bring out and foster a student's own capacity to understand and excel in a given field, which begins with respect. Frequently Asked Questions

Spanish Literature students often struggle with several interconnected challenges: understanding archaic language and regional dialects in classical texts, analyzing literary devices in a non-native language, and grasping cultural and historical context that shapes meaning. Additionally, many students find it difficult to balance close textual analysis with broader thematic interpretation.

Personalized 1-on-1 instruction addresses these challenges by allowing tutors to slow down on difficult passages, explain cultural nuances that textbooks miss, and help you develop a framework for literary analysis. Tutors can also tailor discussions to your specific texts and assignments, making abstract concepts concrete and connected to your coursework.

Reading: Tutors help you navigate complex syntax, archaic vocabulary, and literary techniques while building comprehension of full-length works.
Writing: You'll develop analytical essays and literary arguments with direct feedback on clarity, argumentation, and Spanish grammar in academic contexts.
Speaking: 1-on-1 instruction provides conversation practice discussing themes, characters, and interpretations—something rarely available in classroom settings where discussion time is limited.
Listening: Tutors can incorporate audio recordings of Spanish Literature passages and films to improve your ear for the language and deepen cultural understanding.

Spanish Literature frequently uses subjunctive mood, conditional tenses, and imperfect forms that create meaning layers beyond simple past/present/future. Rather than drilling conjugation tables, expert tutors teach you to recognize these verb forms in context and understand why authors choose them for specific emotional or narrative effects.

For example, understanding the difference between era and fue isn't just grammar—it changes how you interpret a character's experience. Tutors connect grammar directly to literary meaning, so you internalize patterns naturally while building analytical skills at the same time.

Literary works don't exist in a vacuum. Understanding the Spanish Inquisition, colonialism, the Spanish Civil War, or regional identities (Catalonia, Basque country, Andalusia) fundamentally changes how you interpret texts. References, symbolism, and character motivations often depend on this historical knowledge that general classrooms may not have time to explore.

Tutors provide cultural immersion-style learning by discussing the historical periods surrounding assigned texts, explaining regional influences on language and themes, and helping you see how literature reflects and shapes Spanish society. This deeper context transforms your analysis from surface-level to genuinely insightful.

The best Spanish Literature tutors combine native or near-native Spanish proficiency with strong literary analysis skills and genuine passion for the texts. They understand both language mechanics and literary interpretation, and can explain complex ideas clearly without oversimplifying.

Look for tutors who have studied Spanish Literature formally, are familiar with major works and authors, and can adapt their teaching to your specific texts and course requirements. They should also be skilled at asking questions that deepen your thinking rather than simply providing answers—this develops the analytical independence you need for exams and papers.

With consistent 1-on-1 instruction, you can expect to develop stronger close-reading skills, write more sophisticated literary analyses, and participate more confidently in class discussions. You'll build vocabulary specific to literary and academic Spanish, understand complex texts more independently, and develop a framework for analyzing unfamiliar works.

Many students also report improved grades on essays and exams, deeper enjoyment of Spanish literature, and greater confidence communicating about literature in Spanish—both in speaking and writing. The personalized pace allows you to address your specific weak areas rather than moving at a classroom speed.

Personalized instruction allows tutors to create mini-immersion experiences by conducting portions of lessons entirely in Spanish, selecting authentic materials (film adaptations, interviews with authors, critical essays in Spanish), and having you discuss literature naturally rather than translating everything to English first.

Tutors can also contextualize texts within Spanish-speaking culture by exploring related art, music, historical documents, and contemporary responses to classic works. This approach helps you develop literary understanding alongside improved Spanish proficiency, making both skills reinforce each other naturally.
