Tutoring review by Max in Bloomingdale, NJ
We worked on more trig problems that involved finding side lengths of triangles. The exercises tonight were more applied and required drawing triangles and recognizing where angles and sides are located from the context of the questions. The student needed a lot of assistance setting up the problems, and seemed to almost forget the definitions of the fundamental trig ratios. We found a good printout of trig definitions, identities, and full graphic of the unit circle to use as a reference. She did become active when we found that the calculator she was using was set to radials when we needed degrees and demonstrated competence at converting between the two measures as well as using degrees and minutes. We finished with a quick launch into finding arc length.

I met with the student to review Lagrangian errors. She was having a bit of trouble because the answers weren't very intuitive and therefore had to rely on a bit of trial-and-error to see if her answer was correct. We sorted out the issues by doing some practice problems and she seemed to be more confident towards the end of the session. I think she was challenged with this unit and voiced those concerns with me, but her attitude, like always, is positive and determined. At the end, we went over what to do for each problem and how to determine what a, x, and c were for each Lagrangian error problem.

The student and I met together on Friday to go over Fraction's Division. We also reviewed Fraction's subtraction and multiplication. Additionally, she practiced mixed fraction/decimals operations. She showed good understanding of how to solve fractions problems. I like her choice of strategies, accuracy and speed during her work. She was focused and confident solving different fraction exercises. She practiced rounding up decimal numbers to tenth or hundredth limit. It feels like she accomplished her goal to feel confident with her grade level fraction math. For our next session, we can work on geometry problems if needed. Overall, she did amazing work and learned all major fractions concepts. I look forward to meeting with the student again!

Tutoring review by Gregory in Bloomingdale, NJ
I had the student turn to the next chapter in her book, and we managed to go through the first two lessons on systems of equations together. After a little refresher discussion, she seemed to remember how to solve these kinds of questions fairly quickly. It's great that she has been able to retain so much of her previous algebra work so well! We still had some extra time at the end, so I decided to teach a short 10-minute lesson on the basics of cryptography (probably my favorite branch of math). I'll bring more established extension materials for next time. Overall a great session!

Tutoring review by Robert in Bloomingdale, NJ
We worked on solving inequalities. The student is getting much better at solving equations and working on her own. We went over an old math test. She did well. She missed one hard question, and made a couple of errors that were easily fixed. She finished her math homework early so worked on some Spanish. She is good in Spanish and was fun to help. The student is inquisitive and we had a fun session.
