Tutoring review by Nicholas in Bogota, NJ
We continued to review the first student's state test mathematics booklet. A variety of basic subjects - percentages, volumes and areas, inequalities, etc. - seem out of the student's reach. I will try to describe unfamiliar material as best I can in as much detail as possible to compensate for this deficit. The second student continues to perform quite well in our sessions. He completed his math packet today with very little difficulty, getting nearly all of the questions correct!

Tutoring review by Jordan in Bogota, NJ
It was good to meet the student and his family. We discussed his goals and expectations for college. We spent the majority of today's session discussing his academic strengths and interests, his study habits, his college expectations, and his hopes. Although he is slightly "behind" in the college application process, it seems he has potential to do very well should he put his mind to it. At the end of our session, I recommended three goals for him this week: 1) to begin assembling a list of potential schools and gathering information about them; 2) to set up an online organizational account and begin organizing due dates and tasks; and 3) to complete the objective section of the Common App. essay and write a rough draft of the required essay.

Tutoring review by Jennifer in Bogota, NJ
We went over questions dealing with factoring that the student had for homework. We started with factoring trinomials, which she had learned and she was able to answer the questions. Then we tried questions dealing with factoring the greatest common factor. She said she was confused when there were multiple variables, but found that the questions were a lot simpler than she expected. The same goes for the questions dealing with solving for a variable given an equation. We went over how to set each quantity equal to zero to solve for the variable. Finally, we went over factoring binomial squares and what to look out for to determine if we can factor them. She was able to answer the questions on her own and retained the information as we solved different questions!

Tutoring review by Norhan in Bogota, NJ
We reviewed concepts from the last session related to transversal lines. After that, the student asked about how to solve for a specific angle or the variable given. We talked about angles that are equal to each other: alternate interior/exterior, corresponding angles and angles that are supplementary: consecutive angles. We did some practice problems in the book as well. He needs review on differentiating between the two paths to solve the question. I provided notes for him to review.

Tutoring review by Louis in Bogota, NJ
The student and I covered the first couple of chapter topics for his upcoming exam in our session today. We started out reviewing the Universal Law of Gravitation and other formulas and laws involving gravity such as Kepler's Laws. We then covered static equilibrium with respect to torque. I asked him to find the normal force on a fulcrum supporting a number of masses and to find the system at static equilibrium.
