Tutoring review by Gregory in Lincoln Park, NJ
She had a packet with material about simplifying radicals and solving equations with radicals. It was a new unit, and up until Monday, she had only gone over the basics in class about simplifying radicals. She understood how to do this but often made small mistakes in carrying out her calculations that would lead her to the wrong answer. We went on to cover some material that she had not seen in class yet, rationalizing denominators. Likewise, she picked up the concept but had a hard time carrying out all the steps to remove the radical from the denominator of a fraction and simplify the fraction. I think she needs practice more than anything, in order to feel confident in solving exercises.

Tutoring review by Sissi in Lincoln Park, NJ
In this session, the student completed TOEFL listening and TOEFL reading exercises. In the listening and reading exercises, there are quite a few new words, including some very frequent TOEFL vocabulary, so she also learned these new words, and tried to use them in her writing. She learned new strategies for answering TOEFL listening questions. In addition, she learned useful phrases and words from a short video about the school life of middle school students. The homework for her includes a vocabulary exercise, a TOEFL reading exercise, as well as reading the first 50 pages of Because of Winn-Dixie, and writing a summary. While doing homework, she needs to find out the meaning of new words from the dictionary.

Tutoring review by Abbi in Lincoln Park, NJ
We continued working on SSAT prep and this session we did a combination of specific drills in math (like exponents) and some mixed math problems. He had a little trouble but mostly because there were a few he was trying to do too quickly. Then reading comprehension is better and he did great with the inference questions. He did well on the analogies, and pretty well on synonyms. The words he didn't know, we wrote on a list for later flashcard review.
