Students who learn with private mentors tend to get better grades - studies show that - but many students also love the customized learning experience they can enjoy and the flexibility of being able to choose what they learn. For example, you can stop and spend more time on topics that are troubling you or skip concepts you already understand so as not to waste time.

How much does Varsity Tutors cost for students in Summit?

The charge you can expect for tutoring for students in Summit depends largely on factors such as the credentials of the tutor, the subjects you will be studying, and the number of sessions you sign up for. For example, if you register yourself for weekly sessions throughout your term at an institution near Summit like Union County College, the rate you will be charged for each session might be lower than what someone signing up for a few LSAT test prep sessions would pay.

We suggest discussing your needs in further detail with one of our Educational Directors, as they will be able to give you a clearer idea of what the pricing is.

Which tutoring subjects does Varsity Tutors offer for students in Summit?

Varsity Tutors can link you with a tutor for students in Summit regardless of which subject or skill you need help understanding. If your student needs help with 4th-grade reading or 5th-grade math, we can help.

The same applies if your high school student needs help perfecting their essay skills for a writing assignment or if you are struggling with college-level subjects like organic chemistry or discrete math. A private educator can help you prepare for exams like the MCAT or GMAT or even professional certification exams like the Cisco Certified DevNet Expert exam in preparation for a career change. Adult learners can even study German or learn how to play an instrument.

Why choose Varsity Tutors for tutoring in Summit?

When you sign up for tutoring for students in Summit through Varsity Tutors, you will first get a chance to discuss your needs, in-depth, with one of our Educational Directors. We will be there for you to help you get initiated with the process and listen as you talk about your needs and learning goals.

That way, we will be able to create a customized lesson plan tailored to your needs. We will use a proprietary matching system to connect you with a pre-vetted, qualified expert who can help you with the specific subject you need assistance with.

Learning with a private tutor allows you to study with someone who can move at a pace you are comfortable with, on your own schedule. Summit Test Scores

Beginning in third grade, Summit elementary and middle school students take the NJ ASK (New Jersey Assessment of Skills and Knowledge) exams, which test language arts literacy, science, and math. In high school, students take exams from the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) system, which test core subjects such as language arts, science, social studies, and math. Tutors in Summit can aid students as they study for these exams, or for admissions exams like the SAT.

Summit tutoring isn't just for test prep. Varsity Tutors can help you find tutors who specialize in any number of academic subjects. Whether you’re looking for a conversation partner who’s fluent in Italian, a math whiz who can help your child better understand algebra, or you need assistance keeping up in a college physics course, you can connect someone with the specific knowledge you or your student needs.

Summit students have access to quality public schools. This doesn’t mean that some students won’t need a bit of extra assistance. Recent Summit Tutoring Session Notes

Tutoring review by Anne in Summit, NJ
Today, we began by working with linear inequalities and the graphs of the solutions. We did some test corrections. We then worked on additional practice problems from his workbook and some from a review book. We also practiced solving systems of linear equations and solving word problems by setting up systems of linear equations. The student has very good arithmetic skills and understand the concepts. We discussed that he should try to work from left to right and be neat and ask himself if his answers make sense.

We went over problems involving forces due to electric fields. The student seems to have a very good grasp of the new material regarding E&M. We really just had to go back to some 2D kinematic equations from intro Newtonian mechanics in physics 1 courses. She quickly caught on to those concepts as well so she seems to be doing very well overall.

The student and I went over a couple of homework assignments that are leading to an upcoming test. The material we covered included limited reactants, percent yield, and mole conversions. She had a good grasp of the information going into our session, we simply ironed out some kinks and made her nothing short of confident when approaching the problems.

We continued to work on least common multiple, greatest common factor, and converting percents less than 1% and greater than 100% to decimals and fractions. I created some practice problems for the student to work on for each topic. She did really well on them. We also worked on word problems that involved finding percents of whole numbers.

Tutoring review by Kenneth in Summit, NJ
In today's session, I provided a word problem that focused on addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, area, and money skills in a practical situation. The student did well. He had to figure out how many board feet were needed for a door frame and three windows. He also had to figure out how much paint was needed for a wall, subtracting areas of two windows and a door, and then price everything out with prices and describe what kind of change was given back. He did very well with these concepts.
