We reviewed cross multiplication utilizing the distributive property. She had a review worksheet that covered past concepts. In the future lessons if we have extra time I will give her more practice with LCM, GCF, and reducing radicals. She has a math exam on Thursday, and we will try to have another session on Wednesday to prepare.

The student finished his last two pages of balancing equations. He got a 100% (20/20) on his quiz last Friday. He had two more pages to complete, which he did. He is golden and works so hard. I am so proud of him and tell him every time I work with him.

The student and I continued to progress with converting fractions into decimals, moving from more basic fractions to more complex ones and adding and subtracting them together. More practice is still needed in this area, but he is showing growth and increased comfort with the material.

Tutoring review by Laura in Maywood, NJ
We worked on a review sheet to help the student prepare for an exam tomorrow. This covered quite a range of topics, starting with 2-step solving of linear equations. We finished up with domain and range of quadratics (parabolas). This is a topic we just started working on the last time we met, and it is the only regular topic that the student is not completely comfortable with yet. I typed up a sheet for him on the mathboard for him to print out with explanation of a, h, and k as related to the vertex of the parabola. When this becomes quick recognition for him, he should be very swift at getting those ranges down. We also had a chance to review clearing fractions with the "would be" LCD and function notation. As usual, he was pleasant and cooperative, and I knew he was thinking hard when he said his head was starting to hurt! That is normal when learning math.

The student and I worked on long division. We worked specifically on division key terms, dividing 1 digit numbers by 4 digit numbers, dividing numbers with a zero in the quotient, and division word problems. He understands long division. He should be reminded to follow the steps and check his work.
