Whether your child is a kindergartner who’s taking his or her very first steps in school or a college student taking accelerated courses, Varsity Tutors can help you find the right tutor to meet your needs. Middletown Tutoring can help students fill learning gaps and overcome academic obstacles. Though there’s a wide range of mass-market resources available for struggling students, many children need more than subject- or test-specific review workbooks and online tutorials. The most crucial element of tutoring is the personalized, individual guidance an experienced tutor can provide. Using information like your child’s current level of knowledge, academic strengths and weaknesses, and ideal results, the tutor can formulate a custom lesson plan that’s as unique as your child. With a Middletown tutor, your son or daughter is able to move through the material as efficiently as possible. Your child can take all the time that’s needed to ensure tricky concepts stick and can skip over concepts that have already been mastered.

Just like K-12 students across the nation, Connecticut’s students are required to take a range of standardized exams that measure their mastery of knowledge in various core subjects, including English language arts, math, and science. To evaluate ELA and math comprehension, students in grades 3-8 take the Connecticut Smarter Balanced exam, and students in grade 11 take the SAT. Science knowledge is tested with the Next Generation Science Standards Assessment three times throughout a child’s entire K-12 education: in grades 5, 8, and 11. The table shown below provides a look into state assessment scores in the Middletown area.

Middletown Test Scores

Though given as part of the state-mandated assessment program, your student may retake the SAT as a senior in high school. The sheer number of topics your child must understand can seem overwhelming to anyone, and it can be helpful to have a guide who can offer tips and tricks about the real-life experience of the test along with a solid knowledge of the test content. Plus, tutoring can continue to be helpful long after college admissions test prep has ended. Connecticut is home to some of the nation’s finest institutions of higher education as you can see below.

For this session, we worked on series and sequences. The student had a homework assignment for the topic and we completed the homework problems together. We went over all the problems on the homework worksheet and I helped her learn the material, as well as answered any questions she had along the way.

The student and I spent the session working on her review for her math final. We spent a lot of time on proofs since she had not done these since last semester. The student picked these back up quickly and should do well on this part of her final. I also spent time quizzing her for her history final.

Tutoring review by Tim in Middletown, CT
The student and I worked on present tense verbs - both regular and irregular. I gave him a VHS tape that accompanies the textbook so that he can watch it at home between sessions and have more exposure to spoken Spanish in context.

Today, we reviewed for the student's upcoming final. We went over stereochemistry, including a chart for the different types of isomers and different ways to remember them. We went over different types of configurations, including E/Z and cis/trans, with memory techniques for both. We also reviewed the mechanisms and different types of molecules and environments that propagate SN1/SN2 and E1/E2 reactions. We also went over a problem from her last test that she did not understand that involved the SN2 mechanism.

We worked on a take home practice quiz that covered radical expressions and geometric sequences. We were able to get through the first page. I advised the student to read through her class notes and try to work on the remaining problems. She can call me tomorrow if she has any questions.
