Tutoring review by Patrick in Englewood Cliffs, NJ
I worked with the student to review homework - solving linear equations to x- and y-intercepts, and determining the equations of lines when given two points or one point and the slope. He was able to draw out the graphs, but struggled solving the problems algebraically, so we practiced algebraic methods and application of the slope formula until he felt more comfortable with it.

Tutoring review by Vanessa in Englewood Cliffs, NJ
Today the student requested that we study for her social studies assessment happening tomorrow. We went through her flashcards many times and sorted them into categories by topic. She did very well and I feel she is prepared for the exam. She had a positive attitude. For the handful of cards she did not know the first time around, we used key words and "clue" words to help her connect the definition and the vocabulary term/person. She was able to get all of the cards correct before our session was up. Wednesday we will continue with algebra, as well as a science assessment on Wednesday. Great session.

We used the Pre-Algebra learning tools to begin studying for the high school placement exam. She struggles most with reading the directions and taking her time, but she is quick to pick up on concepts when they are introduced. We will work on taking her time in later sessions.

Tutoring review by Rashmi in Englewood Cliffs, NJ
Today, we first reviewed the student's homework on reducing and simplifying fractions with cancellation. Then she was asked to work on finding area and perimeter of irregular figures using unit method as well as using formula. She was struggling a little bit on the formula method and after a lot of practice on this, she understood the concept. To reinforce this understanding homework was given on the same topic with word problems too.

Today in session, the student and I reviewed his optimization homework. He was able to solve several of his homework problems before the session ended. After the session's completion, he had a much better hold on the subject matter and will continue with his homework on his own.

Tutoring review by Tam in Englewood Cliffs, NJ
The student and I worked on a practice quiz. We discussed writing systems of inequalities, identifying a set of solutions of a system of equations, deriving linear relationship from a given set of data and estimating future values, simplifying expressions involving imaginary number, evaluating second-order polynomial functions (shape based on leading coefficient, minimum/ maximum), factoring polynomials, finding x- and y-intercepts. After the quiz, we learned transformation of functions, including vertical/ horizontal shift, compression/ stretching, and reflection. We did one example to illustrate the new concepts. She is a quick learner. We will practice more on graph transformation and I would like to discuss factoring using special products in the next session.
