Today we went over the student's review homework and his notes to prepare him for his test tomorrow. The student's exam is on integration, including the fundamental theorem of calculus 1 and 2 and the use of Riemann sums. The student is doing ok with the problems. We worked through a few problems. He will continue working through review problems that use substitution to help him study. We talked through the Riemann sums and he seemed comfortable with that material.

Tutoring review by Ahmad in Ringwood, NJ
Student A: We covered some ACT math problems. Specifically we covered probability and permutations. There were also problems on series that we did. For probability, the strategy we used was to figure out the total number of outcomes and put it as the denominator. The number of specific outcomes we looked for was in the numerator. The student needs to read more carefully, and then her scores will increase dramatically. Other than that, she understood the concepts fairly well. The ACT book had lots of practice. Student B: We covered logarithms and their various properties. I explained the rules for exponents and related them to the rules of logarithms. We used those properties to solve for equations involving logarithms. She was eager to learn the material. Student B initially struggled with understanding the concepts behind the logarithmic properties. However, she was able to apply the rules when solving the equations. I asked her to memorize certain bases to different powers.

She keeps making great strides. I'm trying to get her confidence level higher. Today we reviewed system of linear equations, how to solve them algebraically by substitution and addition, and how to solve them graphically. She has no issues whatsoever understanding her notes so we moved quickly to polynomials and exponentials. Lastly, we did another section of her project due on May 11, which involved functions. I assigned her homework to do the 4th section of the project for next Tuesday.

The student and I worked on his algebra homework from chapter 5. We reviewed polynomials including how to combine like terms and how to solve for polynomial functions. Next, we discussed chapter 12 of his biology text involving experiments to determine the genetic material of genes. With the remaining time, I helped him complete his history identifications about the English Enlightenment.

She is an excellent student, courteous and respectful. We reviewed 5th grade materials with respect to long multiplication and division hoping to work on methods of memorization. The goal of the session was to help her build a strong foundation for her current 6th grade work. We specifically worked on problems in her current chapter that required rigorous review of these concepts.
