If you have decided to take on the task of learning Korean, you can reach out to Varsity Tutors to begin a Boulder Korean course. Whether you are a student at Fairview High School, Boulder High School, or the University of Colorado in Boulder, a course can help you get on the right path toward achieving your goals.
Korean is a language that is spoken by about 75 million people: 48 million in South Korea and 24 million in North Korea. Korean is the main language for both, though you will find minor differences in spelling, vocabulary choice (such as the names of the letters), and alphabetization. However, they both endorse unified standards. You can also find people who speak the language in places such as the United States, Russia, China, and Japan.
Korean is considered to be a language isolate, meaning there is no connection to Korean from any other language. The languages that seem to be most likely to have a relationship with Korean are Japanese and other languages that belong to the Altaic group.
When you enroll in a Boulder Korean class, you can work to achieve personal goals like gaining a better understanding of what's taught in your Korean class in school and getting a better comprehension of Korean literature and culture.
What kind of material will be covered in a Boulder Korean class?
There are a few primary sentence structures in Korean, including subject-adjective, subject-verb, and subject-object-verb. Each Korean sentence will either end with an adjective or a verb. You must listen to the entire Korean sentence and pay special attention to how it ends. You will not know whether the speaker is referring to the past or future or making a positive or negative expression unless you listen to the entire sentence.
The subject-object-verb structure may seem tricky if you are a native English speaker because the sentence could come across as grammatically incorrect. However, in Korean, it is not. For example, in English you might say "I fed the cat," and in Korean, it may read as "I the cat fed."
You will also learn about verb conjugation. When a verb is properly conjugated, it could very well stand on its own as a finished sentence. The Korean language does not conjugate verbs using an agreement with the subject. This means that they are always conjugated in the same way, regardless of the sentence's subject or the number of people.
If all this seems difficult to understand, don't worry too much. Your Korean instructor will be there to help guide you through the nuances and complexities of learning the Korean language.
How can a Boulder Korean course help me learn?
Because you will attend your Boulder Korean class in a live, online classroom, you will find that there are a lot of options for interactivity. This allows you to study alongside other students and your Korean teacher. You can participate in discussions about the Korean language and can even offer aid to another student who may not understand something as quickly as you do.
One vital part of learning Korean is conversing in the language. A Boulder Korean course provides you with access to an experienced Korean speaker. Your instructor may encourage you to memorize the rules of the language as well as help you build your fluency level. If and when you are comfortable with it, an instructor may decide to offer parts of the course entirely in Korean to help you better your skills through simulated immersion. If you find that a certain topic is really difficult, you can request additional assistance outside of class hours.
In a virtual classroom, you are able to study wherever you're most comfortable without the need for a long commute. New class sections begin on a rolling monthly basis and you can choose a time during the day, weekend, or night that can best accommodate your schedule.
