Chinese is one of the most difficult languages in the world to learn, but Varsity Tutors can get you enrolled in a Milwaukee Chinese course that can help you make headway in Chinese no matter your skill level. Learning any language can be tough. New languages offer some challenges that traditional classrooms aren't always equipped to address. One of these is the need for continual practice. Enrolling in a Milwaukee Chinese course can be a great way to invite more Chinese practice and conversation into your life. You'll be able to hone your skills in a mutually supportive Chinese-language environment and get feedback from an expert Chinese instructor on a schedule that fits your lifestyle. Whether you're a student at Rufus King International School getting an early start on learning Chinese, a Marquette University or UW-Milwaukee student struggling to finish up your language requirements, or an experienced professional looking to learn Chinese to enhance your resume, there is a course that's perfect for you.
Chinese is a popular, smart choice for language learners. It's the most widely-spoken language in the world with over a billion native speakers, and can give you access to the rich history, Eastern philosophies, art, and highly developed cuisines of China. It's also very useful for anyone interested in pursuing a career in international trade and communication and could help you open your business up to new markets. As the world becomes more and more globalized, bilingualism is becoming a more important business skill, and learning Chinese can be an intelligent business investment on your part.
What will I learn in a Milwaukee Chinese class?
China has a very diverse set of languages and cultures, and Chinese reflects this. There are many dialects of Chinese, including Mandarin, Cantonese, Hakka, Xiang, Wu, and Gan. Mandarin is the most widely spoken and is the official language of the People's Republic of China. Cantonese, on the other hand, has historically been the most common dialect spoken in the United States. Whatever dialect you're learning, you'll be learning the single system of written characters that unites all these variants of Chinese. Written Chinese requires a lot of practice and memorization, as it uses over 50,000 individual characters. Around 20,000 of these are used in normal Chinese correspondence, although 2,500 make up the vast majority of everyday Chinese communication. There is also another written form of Chinese called pinyin, which is used to translate traditional Chinese characters into the Western alphabet.
This is by no means where the difficulties end when learning Chinese, though. Spoken Chinese is also very different from English. Chinese is a tonal language, which means that words change their meanings depending on the tone they're spoken with. For example, in Mandarin, words can be spoken with one of four tones: flat, rising, falling, and falling then rising. Some dialects use as many as nine tones. You'll have to start training your ear to pick up on these tones or you won't be able to understand the meaning of sentences. This also makes working on your own pronunciation very important when learning Chinese.
You may find Chinese unfamiliar in other ways as well, such as its lack of articles, verb inflections, and plurals. Chinese words have only one grammatical form so, unlike English, they don't change to indicate plurality, for example. Many native English speakers find this very confusing when they start learning Chinese. Additionally, you'll learn vocabulary and essential phrases, grammar and structure, verbs, and how to differentiate similar verbs, among other things. There's a lot to get your head around, but with the help of a Milwaukee Chinese course and with a bit of dedicated practice, you can start steadily making your way towards your Chinese learning goals.
How will a Milwaukee Chinese class present all this information?
A Milwaukee Chinese course is taught online in an interactive classroom where you and your classmates will be taught by an expert Chinese instructor. You'll participate in discussions and group learning activities, which have been shown to help students acquire and retain information. A group discussion can be a great way to bring your Chinese studies to a new level by giving you a community of Chinese language learners at your own proficiency level to converse with so you can build your vocabulary and your confidence. Other students can introduce you to new concepts, and even when you're going over material that you already feel like you've got a handle on, you'll be strengthening your own understanding. While a group course offers many advantages, we know that it can be helpful to get some private instruction, too, which is why you'll be able to reserve one-on-one time with your Chinese teacher to go over any material that you find yourself struggling with. The course aims to accommodate many different kinds of students and learning styles and has been designed with this in mind.
This aim for accessibility extends to how the class is scheduled, as well. An online class allows for many class times to be on offer, so even if you're a student at Reagan College Preparatory High School with a schedule crammed with classes, extracurricular activities, and sports, we can provide a class that suits you. The same goes for busy professionals; even if the only time you feel like you can fit in a class is during your lunch break, we can meet your needs. You also won't have to worry about fitting another commute into your life, which can save you both time and money and ensures that you can get to your class on time. This means that you can feel more confident about your ability to get in the amount of practice that you'll need to build proficiency in Chinese.
How can I get signed up?
