Tutoring review by Lyra in Metuchen, NJ
Today the student and I talked about linear transformations on square root (and cube root) functions. We covered horizontal shift, vertical stretch/ reflection, and vertical shift. Horizontal stretch/ reflection was briefly addressed but, since it is more complicated than the others, we did not get into it too deeply. We also reviewed the ideas of domain and range, and how they are affected by these kinds of linear transformations. The student took careful notes and made a lot of progress on understanding the core concepts.

The student was given a puzzle worksheet on identifying two points on the graphs of 12 lines. He had to first determine the coordinates of each point and then use the slope formula to state the slope of each line. This information was on pieces of paper that he was to paste in the proper positions on the worksheet. We reviewed the slope formula (the order of subtraction and the addition of two negative integers), and after a bit of practice, he quickly mastered these concepts and successfully completed the worksheet, recognizing that positive slopes rise and negative slopes fall when moving from left to right.

Tutoring review by Bailey in Metuchen, NJ
Today, the student worked through several math worksheets. These worksheets focused on the law of cosine and the law of sine as well as how to apply both laws to described situations. She was very enthusiastic about working through the problems and was able to quickly determine which law was necessary in each situation. She did struggle a few times in visualizing the problem and drawing out the described sceneries from word problems without a picture provided. We will work on that in future sessions.

The student finished her probability packet today (the remaining of 21 pages packet) and did quite well. We covered permutation and combination, dependent and independent events, as well as tree diagrams and counting possibilities. She asked me to give her some practice problems, so I will be emailing her some problems within the next few days. I am confident she will do well on her upcoming test on Tuesday. She is not only smart, but also very hard-working and ambitious. She is an A student and will not settle for less. I really enjoy working with her.

Tutoring review by Alexandra in Metuchen, NJ
The student and I went over polynomial rules for addition/subtraction and multiplication/division. She is smart and not afraid to ask questions when she's confused. She picks up new concepts quickly. Her problem in class is that it's fast and she does not get the opportunity to think before they move on. Given time, she does very well. We did a bonus problem for class, and it seems like she's understanding practical applications for algebra. I told her this week to make a little star next to problems she has difficulty with, and we can work them out next session.
