Tutoring review by Julia in South River, NJ
Having moved forward in the K12 Social Studies curriculum, today the student worked on Unit 12, lessons 1 - 4. Lesson 1 Marching to a Different Beat taught about the 1960's. Many young men and women at this time protested the war in Vietnam by marching and refusing to join the army. "Hippies" also listened to rock and roll music which often had a political message, wore long hair and wild clothes, and were part of a "counterculture." He scored 100% for a 6-question multiple choice quiz. Lesson 2 The Nixon Years explained that there were crimes committed by the President, and that Nixon was almost impeached. The student learned some rules about impeachment, for example, the President does not go to jail. He also considered that Nixon was the first President to visit China in a gesture of goodwill. He scored 90% on a 10-question quiz. Lesson 3 Writing Wrongs was about the newsmen Woodward and Bernstein who exposed Nixon's wrongdoings by investigating and writing articles. The Watergate scandal caused Nixon to resign the Presidency and shows that democracy works. Woodward and Bernstein used freedom of the press to accuse a President of crimes. He scored 100% on the lesson quiz after review and retake. Lastly, Lesson 4 One-Term Presidents discussed Gerald Ford who became President due to Nixon's resignation. Jimmy Carter was a peace-loving man who asked the nation to make sacrifices to help the environment. Lesson 4 multiple choice quiz score 100%. He practiced remembering more states on the US map, adding North and South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas and Oklahoma. Finally, he worked on a thesis for his essay. He enjoys hearing passages read aloud and has amazing recall afterwards.

Tutoring review by Efrem in South River, NJ
We discussed and the student completed homework and reviewed problems on motion, including velocity, time, distance, and acceleration calculations. She is quick and methodical, and when concentrating, very accurate. She needs to visualize the problems for faster recognition; once she sees the given parameters, she is quick to point to the correct route to the solution. Such problems are not instinctive to her, so she needs to be methodical. She was more confident after practice. We will meet again next week.

Tutoring review by Joel in South River, NJ
For today's session, we focused on completing some long division with three-digit quotients. The student had proven to be quite successful with this last week, so I wanted to see how his knowledge of the processes held up after not meeting for a week. For the most part, he knew what to do. All in all, I feel confident moving forward on to other math topics. For Thursday's session, we will begin by practicing memorization of the 9s table.

Tutoring review by Daniel in South River, NJ
The student did really well today. We spent the whole session reviewing the homework which focused on using the point-slope form of linear equations. He did great, and set up all the equations correctly after we went over the first problem together. His biggest obstacle is still being able to add and subtract negative numbers correctly. We made some progress today though. He started to really grasp the rule about subtracting negative numbers. He also remembered how to use the slope formula from last week. He is doing great, and it seems like he is getting more confident each week and is working harder to understand everything.

The student and I covered logarithms in this session. She only had a couple of questions regarding how to evaluate when a radical was used. Once I explained that, she moved through the questions quite smoothly. We finished reviewing her homework set with quite a few minutes to spare, so we went on to the next homework and solved the majority of those. Because they hadn't covered the material yet, I gave her the required logarithmic identities.

We worked on a few problems from the student's homework because he wanted to make sure he was on the right track. He has a good grasp on the material, and he just needs to make sure he works carefully and avoids calculation errors.
