Just as you took the SAT or ACT when you were in high school and heading to college, now you have finished or are finishing your undergraduate degree. To get into grad school, you may need to take the GRE (Graduate Record Examination) and/or a GRE Subject Test. If you are pursuing a graduate degree in a field which requires advanced understanding of math, you may have to take the GRE Subject Test in Mathematics. Even if it’s not required at the schools you’re applying to, the test may also be taken to strengthen your application submission. Some areas of study that might warrant you taking the GRE Math Subject Test are engineering, physics, and especially any kind of pure mathematical discipline. The GRE Math Test has 66 questions, with about half on calculus, a quarter on algebra, and another quarter on various other topics.
The GRE Math preparation available using Varsity Tutors’ free Learn by Concept Learning Tool is comprehensive. The topics are laid out in a sort of interactive syllabus. By clicking into these topics you are given sample questions that test the specific topic chosen. Every sample question is presented with a set of multiple choice answers. You look through the answers, work on the problem, and choose what you believe to be the correct answer. Then you check your answer to see if you got it correct.
Learn by Concept does not stop being helpful just by providing questions, however. Whether you got the answer correct or not, a detailed description of how to get to the right answer is provided. This way, you can see, step by step, how to come up with the correct answers to difficult, multi-step problems. If you already had the answer right, you can check to make sure you did the work correctly throughout.
