Many genes in c. elegans are homologous to human genes. To investigate the role of the above gene mutations in the development of c. elegans is to further understand the mechanism of human neurodegenerative diseases.To open my eyes to different cultures in the world, I applied and was selected to be part of a pre-med study abroad semester in Maastricht, Netherlands. In Maastricht, I studied both for the classes taught by Baylor professors and the Maastricht University professors. I was introduced to the European culture in my free time. I have a Bachelors in Elementary Education as well as certifications in Teaching English as a Second Language and the Science of Teaching Reading. I love tutoring elementary and middle school students as this is a pivotal time time in their lives and often need to learn foundational skills to help them feel confident in our everyday classroom settings. I am a sophomore biology major on the pre-med track at Baylor University. I have taught and tutored 7th through 11th graders on math ranging from Pre-Algebra to AP Calculus AB, as well as high school and middle school level biology and sciences. I have taught over the summer for 4 years, primarily working with 8th and 9th graders in mathematics; and I have tutored classmates in biology, AP biology, chemistry, ACT prep, and more during high school. I have worked most with middle school and high school underclassmen, of various economic and academic backgrounds, over the years.
