Hi, my name is Lloyd Fisher. I earned my PhD in Chemistry from the University of Michigan. I have seven years experience in tutoring Chemistry, Algebra (1 and 2), and related topics at the middle school, high school, and college levels. My tutoring philosophy is that with enough dedicated effort and the right approach, anyone can succeed in a subject. My method focuses on teaching my students how best to approach problems so that they can begin to solve them on their own. Feel free to reach out at any time and we can get started!

I'm a freshman at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, and I play on the Michigan Intercollegiate polo team. I love all animals - especially horses and cats - and I am studying to be a veterinarian.
I attended the University of Michigan and graduated in April of 2021. I majored in Biochemistry with minors in Business and Music.I am currently applying to medical school. As such, I'm definitely interested in working with students preparing for the MCAT. I also have a strong background in biology, chemistry/biochemistry/organic chem.I'm also highly competent in math (I took both AP Calculus BC and AB and scored a 5 on both exams).I really enjoy getting to know others and helping them learn based on my knowledge, tips, and experience.
I have lived all over the country and just moved back to Michigan after four years away. It’s great to be back, especially in time for the fall! I graduated from the University of Michigan with a BA in sociology in 2006 and again with an MSW (Masters in Social Work) in 2011; Go Blue! I am a social worker with over 10 years of nonprofit experience working with children and youth. I specialize in art and education programming and have worked with kids of all ages in a number of roles: tutor, mentor, nanny, assistant teacher, camp counselor, and program manager. My most recent position was as a Teacher Caregiver for a family in Chicagoland. Among my responsibilities, I provided daily homework help and academic tutoring for three kids ages 5, 9, and 11. Before that, I ran a tutoring and homework help after school program in Seattle for Somali refugees. Now that I’m back in Michigan I’m looking for individual students to tutor in a range of subjects. I’m comfortable with elementary and middle school math, language arts, study and organizational skills, Spanish, general homework help, and ISEE and SSAT prep. I’m also comfortable with ELL/ESL tutoring for all ages and some high school language arts and elective subjects (e.g. psychology). Please inquire for more details. I look forward to working with you!
I am currently a student at the University of Michigan studying Material Science and Engineering. I am very passionate about math and helping people to understand math and its importance even in non-STEM fields. I also have a lot of experience working with students that have learning differences.
I am passionate about all areas of content knowledge, including math, science, English, and history. Because I also value moral knowledge, I firmly believe that the good example of a high quality tutor has the potential make a world of a difference in a person's life. I was lucky enough to have my parents as my tutors throughout my childhood and I hope to provide the same services to others.
Hello! My name is Emily Cavero and I am a recent graduate from the University of Michigan. During my time in Ann Arbor, I studied psychology and business, taking a wide variety of courses ranging from STEM to humanities. I am excited for the opportunity to work with students ranging from kindergarten to middle school or early high school, specifically in the subjects of Math and English. I have taken Math courses up to and including college calculus, and have always been passionate about and enjoyed the subject of English. I would be happy to offer my learned effective techniques, tips, and strategies to younger students across Math and English topics, whether it be reading comprehension, writing, spelling, grammar, or whatever other objectives the student is aiming to achieve. I like to devise a plan first while looking at the whole task at hand, such as areas for improvement or assignments, and develop a plan in order to help the student attain the performance they desire. Please feel free to book a session and I would be happy to discuss any strategies, plans, or answer any questions. I look forward to working with students soon!
I graduated from Barnard College with a degree in English and writing. I took a wide range of classes, specializing in literature and both creative and academic writing. All throughout college I worked with students at various ages and levels, helping them succeed in school. After graduating, I spent two years teaching 3rd and 4th grade in Detroit. I absolutely loved working with my students in the classroom! As a teacher, I feel that a strong rapport with a student is essential to quality learning. I believe that a thorough education is a basic human right. In my spare time, I love to read (poetry, fiction, essays), write, explore new places, and cook new recipes.
I am a current medical student in Boston. I previously worked for 3 years as an English teacher and journalist in Rome, Italy. My diverse experiences in life as a teacher, student, researcher and writer have granted me the perspective to see how many different learning styles there are, and how each and every student deserves individualized attention to reach their maximum potential. Whether it be preparing for the MCAT, writing an application essay, or learning basic english grammar, I promised to approach every lesson with the patience and attention that you deserve!
I am a graduate of the University of Michigan where I double majored in Biomolecular Science and Economics on a pre-med track. I enjoy working with students as my past teaching experiences have led me to work with all ages. In my free time, I like to follow and play sports and listen to music.

Detroit, Michigan is my birthplace and current residence. Before relocating back home in June 2008, I lived in Chicago, Illinois for ten years. My ties to "Chi-town" are abundant, so I return often to teach, freelance, and socialize. My philosophy to teaching has been cultivated through the student-centered approach to learning. The first goal is to create a positive learning environment that will engage our classroom. Thereafter, insight is enhanced by instituting comprehensive instruction, and in-depth dialogue. Last, I believe that encouraging scholarly growth equates to supporting the maturation of critical thinking. Such approach should assist in developing individual scholarly voices, ultimately refined through class discussions, assignments, and personal experience.Professionally, I am a Counselor dedicated to hospice care, bereavement counseling, and leading psycho-educational groups. One of my assignments is to conduct group counseling and instruct a financial accountability curriculum to first-time bad check offenders. This program allows me to work with men and women in three Midwest states: Michigan, Indiana, and Illinois. In 8 years, and 119 classes, I have reached 2,944 people. I love my work!!While I accept my call to serve others going through financial, life, or death transition; there is a deeper passion to teach. Through online and classroom environments, my courses include: Philosophy of Ethics, Ethical Issues in Human Service Organizations, Technologies in Human Service Organizations, The Helping Process & Self-Care, and Principles of Health & Wellness. In addition, I am a Certified Personal Fitness Trainer, Independent First Aid/CPR Instructor and Family Caregiving Leader through the Southeastern Michigan Red Cross.Living gives me great joy; especially when time is spent with my 2 nephews, 1 niece, and 2 cats (Syren & Kooper). Little people and animals allow me to breathe, and maintain a balanced - purpose driven perspective on life. Away from family, I am working out: Kangoo Jumping, and weather permitting, riding my Trikke.Remember to KISS (Keep It Simple Scholar)...

While at GSU, I taught Anatomy and Physiology I and II (A&P) labs, I tutored for the TRIO Program (Biology I and II, Anatomy I and II, Advanced Human Physiology, and Biochemistry). Additionally, I served as a supplemental instructor for Principles of Biology I and II, Principles of Chemistry I and II, and Anatomy and Physiology I and II. Following my time at Tri-C, I served as a Founding Teacher for the newest KIPP DC school Somerset College Prep teaching Statistics, Algebra II, and AP Biology. My experiences have made me a master of learning and my goal is to share the tools of masterful learning with students in hope that they will become more efficient learners, and better advocates for themselves in classrooms at every level.
Junior studying biomedical engineering at the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor
I am a teacher committed to helping students reach their potential.
I am a graduate of the University of Michigan. I received my Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a focus on developmental psychology. Since graduation, I have worked in Disaster Services with the Red Cross in Long Island. My role combined emergency management, social work, as well as a capacity for empathizing with other people. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, including various sciences and math, I am most passionate about chemistry. Having taken various chemistry courses throughout my education, I have learned tips and tricks along the way to help any kind of student succeed. I am a firm believer that education involves a two-way approach with the educator involving the student as much as possible. In my spare time, I enjoy cooking and eating food, jogging, and watching Michigan sports, Go Blue!
Japanese language and culture has had an enormous impact on my personal life and career trajectory. Ever since my first study abroad in Wakayama prefecture in 2014, I've been deeply interested in the cultural perspectives and practices in the natural landscapes of Japan and I am currently pursuing a masters in landscape architecture to further explore that interest. While I am a graduate student of landscape architecture, I have also tailored my degree to include graduate level studies of Japanese language to further refine my ability to network into Japanese-affiliated opportunities in research and industry.I don't believe I would have had the confidence to pursue the opportunities that I do today if not for my skill in Japanese language. I have many teachers and mentors to thank for it, and it is my hope that I can teach and mentor in the same way as a tutor.
I have a Master's degree in Applied Behavioral Sciences with an emphasis in systems counseling fromBastyr University, and a bachelor's degree in German from University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. I have anextensive writing background, having worked as a Technical Writer for 10 years, and having written severalpost-graduate academic papers on various aspects of counseling and psychology. While I enjoy helpingkids with reading, writing, math, and homework support in elementary and middle school classrooms, what I love most is working collaboratively with kids to help them become better writers. I have found that kids of all ages have such amazing thoughts and ideas that often go unnoticed in their writing because theystruggle with how to put words on paper. To learn to write well requires ongoing, detailed feedback from teachers who often have a student load of over 100 kids and simply don't have the time to provide such feedback. That is where I can help. I can work with you on an ongoing basis, giving you constructive feedback and useful suggestions to help you express your thoughts in an effective and impact-full manner, while using proper writing conventions, grammar, and punctuation. Whether you need to write a literary analysis for English, a research paper for Psychology, or a college entrance essay, I will happily work with you to hone your writing style and learn proper writing conventions.I'm also available to tutor Speech and Debate, Intro to Psychology, beginning and intermediate German, and English Literature and Composition classes.
Hello! I am a recent graduate of the University of Michigan with degrees in History and Ecology, Evolutionary Biology and a minor in Native American Studies. I am excited to be back in southeast Michigan this year for work in research and community organizing. I am grateful that I also have this opportunity to work with students and continue developing my skills as an educator.I have been tutoring informally for several years but it was not until college that I understood how instructive and rewarding of an experience it could be. As an undergraduate, I worked with an organization called Proyecto Avance: Latino Mentoring Association (PALMA), which paired U of M students with students of all ages from the Latino community of Ann Arbor. I worked primarily with high school students to complete homework, study for tests, develop study habits, and plan for life after high school. That experience required me to develop a much keener awareness of what I do and do not know and especially how to communicate concepts in concise ways that will facilitate lasting learning. Experimenting with different instruction techniques and finding ways to approach material that seemed worthwhile and interesting to my students was not just incredibly fun, it made very clear to me that one of my main goals in life is going to be to help younger people discover how powerful their brains are. The moment when my students realize they can and should trust themselves and that their love of learning should be celebrated is incredibly precious to me.I have always found tutoring to be a reciprocal process. If anything, my students have always taught me more than I have taught them. This is, in my opinion, the most important feature of an effective tutor: an awareness that learning occurs collaboratively. After 22 years as a quite serious student, I have uncovered a set of skills and mental processes that have worked very well for me. I am always excited to translate these skills to younger students and to help them discover their own methods that are best suited to their particular ways of thinking and working.
I'm currently studying Computer Science at the University of Michigan. I tutor the SAT (on which I scored a 1590/1600), as well as high school-level Math, History, and English, including AP courses. The reason I tutor the SAT, specifically, is that, because I'm just out of high school, I still vividly remember the strategies I devised while rigorously studying for the SAT, from memorizing passage structures and common question types, to finding strategies to eliminate answer choices before even starting questions. Understanding these strategies doesn't have to be hard, though, and I want to help students learn these strategies without having to figure them out themselves.
I am currently in my last semester of a Master's program at Wayne State University with a degree in Spanish and a Graduate certificate in linguistics. I taught high school for five years and I am in my second year of teaching at the undergraduate level. I am very passionate about languages and I love both studying and teaching them. I enjoy teaching in general and helping people better understand whatever it is they are trying to learn. I have experience teaching learners of all ages.
Hi Everyone!A little bit about me: I am from a suburb of Columbus, OH where I graduated highschool with over a 4.0, played soccer and lacrosse, and was heavily involved in peer collaboration, both in school and out of school, for students with disabilities. I went on to attend the University of Michigan where I graduated Honors in Cellular and Molecular Biology and Applied Statistics. During which time, I lead informal tutor and study groups for my peers in difficult courses such as microbiology, organic chemistry, and biostatistics, to name a few. Since graduating, I have moved back to my hometown where I worked as Data Analyst for roughly 8 months before changing paths and shifting back to medicine where I work now as a Medical Assistant for a local dermatology practice. I plan to get my Master's in Physician Assistant Studies in the new few years. As I mentioned above, I have a passion for helping those excel, where they may not feel the most confident. While my areas of strength are in math and science, I, myself, have struggled in other areas and have had to ask for help. So, I understand first-hand that everyone's learning techniques are different and, if a student is not understanding a concept while being taught one way, there needs to be a shift in methods to try and convey the message differently. I have informally taught many students over the years, and each one of them learned differently. What helped things "click" in one student's mind, was not quite the same as another's. I'd like to continue helping students find what "clicks" for them and excel in their troublesome area!
My tutoring and teaching experience includes being a bootcamp Python and SQL instructor, teaching and tutoring a GMAT prep class, and tutoring math and computer programming in college. When I'm learning something for the first time, I try to break up what I don't know into approachable chunks. Then I work my way through each smaller block with a combination of reading, practice and reflection about how the chunk I'm working on fits into the bigger picture.
I am a rising senior at the University of Michigan studying Economics and Mathematics.I've been tutoring part-time on and off for years- and I've worked with students of all ages on a large range of different subject material. Each student learns differently, but I'm very comfortable trying out different teaching strategies. Whether I'm working with a 10 year old on Algebra or a 24 year old on Differential Equations, I always make it work.
I received my education with the University of Michigan for my undergraduate degree of Biology with a Minor in German and four years later I completed a Masters degree in Cancer Chemical Biology with Rackham Graduate School in Ann Arbor. I am currently working towards a Doctoral Degree within the realms of Cancer Research. However, before I undertook the graduate school lifestyle, I was an English Teacher in Japan teaching kids from ages 7 to 15. It was here where I discovered that I have a latent talent for teaching. Since coming back, I have been wanting to teach once again but within the realms of my own interests; Science and Languages.Specifically I have had immense studies within the fields of Immunology, Virology, Microbiology and recently Research Sciences. To the languages I studied Spanish, German and Japanese. My favorite subjects to teach would have to be Science and Languages. My teaching philosophy and style is a bit different than most conventional teaching. Depending on the student I will bring the material to "their world" and try to bring parallels to how their own personal interests can correlate or help describe the subject at hand.Additionally my main goal is not to teach but to help lead to understanding. If the student truly understands the material at hand the brute force method of pure memorization is not needed.Outside of Academia, I have an interest within video games, nature and the Japanese martial art Aikido. An unusual combination yet, it is through them which enable me to react appropriately to any situation with a calm and curious demeanor in problem solving. To students who are considering my mentorship, I personally guarantee that I will try my best to help you understand and in the event that I do not know the answer I will be sure to follow up on any questions that I cannot answer at that time. The pursuit of knowledge is not an easy task, but I will make it my duty to make it as seamless as possible.
I am currently a biology, health, and society major at the University of Michigan.I have a significant amount of tutoring experience from my jobs as a physics learning assistant and a middle school science tutor. My approach to tutoring is that every student is different, so it is important to try different approaches and applications. Every student is capable of mastering a subject, but they all learn differently. In my free time, I like to read, play the guitar, sing, and bake.

In the past, I have greatly enjoyed being a Judaic Studies teacher for kids ages 8-16 at my summer camp and tutored 6th and 7th graders in elementary computer programming. I have taught in the classroom setting for 6.5 years and online for 4 years. I have taught both mathematics and English as a Second Language. I like to give the students a chance to explain their answers and to describe how they got them. In ESL, I enjoy helping students learn the grammar and syntax of English. In both subjects, I am a very positive teacher, giving a lot of encouragement and support.
