I am a fun and energetic young professional who just graduated from NYU with a major in Urban Design and Sociology. I work at a climate change think tank and love to work with students and help them achieve academic excellence in their spare time. I am passionate about learning in all its forms, but most of my areas of expertise are centered in math, science, and humanities. While my studies as an undergraduate student ranges from architectural drawing to Marxist thinking, my tutoring interests are much more broad. I have always done quite well on standardized tests and love helping people prepare for them! I also enjoy tutoring science, math reading, writing, literature and related fields at all levels! Additionally, I have great French skills and am more than comfortable tutoring elementary to intermediate French. I also studied Italian in college and lived in Italy for 6 months, so beginner Italian is also possible for me to help with. In high school, I completed the International Baccalaureate Program along with many Advanced Placement exams. Working with students to achieve success in these areas is also something that I love to do.

I am a lifelong learner of the Chinese language. I am passionate about this language, and I hope to pass my passion on to my students. I have various experiences that make me an excellent tutor. As a high school student at Riverdale Country School, I studied abroad in Beijing during my junior year through School Year Abroad (SYA). During my junior year of college, I studied in Shanghai through NYU Shanghai. I have also participated in the Middlebury College Chinese School twice at the highest level where I could only communicate in Chinese for eight weeks.I have Chinese tutoring experiences through another organization similar to Varsity Tutors as well as by meeting with students with whom I have personal connections. I have achieved near-native fluency in Mandarin Chinese, and have taught my tutees various skills that I have learned to learn the language effectively.Currently, I am studying to receive an English-teaching certificate at Columbia University while teaching English to Chinese immigrants in Chinatown using my Mandarin skills. Previously, I have held numerous positions in which I have used my Mandarin skills, including as a case manager at a community health center that serves Chinese immigrants in Flushing, Queens.Learning Chinese can seem extremely difficult and almost impossible at some times. As a learner of the language for 12 years, I know exactly how to overcome these obstacles which I will be able to teach you.

As an undergraduate student at New York University majoring in Politics, my dream is to be a lawyer. My academic path is fueled by a deep-seated passion for understanding the mechanisms of governance and justice, and a desire to contribute meaningfully to society through the legal profession. However, beyond my academic and career aspirations, I find fulfillment in the act of teaching, specifically in guiding students through varying levels of math, english, and reading, as well as assisting them in crafting compelling college essays. As someone who has gone through the college application process, I understand the importance of a nuanced, yet well-crafted essay. I am a recent graduate of NYU Drama and an avid learner. My goal in working with students is to cultivate a passion for the material, to contextualize the content, and to transfer that excitement into articulate conversations. For me, anything and everything is an opportunity to gain insight whether inside the classroom or out. I have always loved guiding people through material - whether in an art museum with my parents or in class with my friends. This passion for school is augmented by a deep understanding of learning techniques and study skills. So while I believe the key to a student understanding material is a deep engagement with it, I also have tools to help recall and organize information. I specialize in History, Psychology, English, Reading, and Writing. I have experience with a wide variety of age groups from 10 to 18.I am a theater director and freelance artist. However, when I am not at the theater I can be found listening to podcasts, watching reality tv, playing video games, or reading. Travelling is one of the best things I have ever done for myself. I recently graduated Summa Cum Laude from New York University, completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drama and a minor in history. The incredible teachers I have had have shown me the power of education, and I love being able to share that with others through tutoring. In my tutoring sessions, I emphasize foundational concepts and principles, and achieve growth through consistent practice and overcoming misconceptions and unhelpful habits. While preparing for standardized tests, I help students feel confident about the knowledge on which they will be examined. I understand that these important tests can be stressful experiences for many people, so I also work with students to develop strategies to overcome any anxiety that might get in the way of a student not demonstrating his or her full potential. My name is Kelsey, and I'm excited for the opportunity to assist you (or your student) in achieving and surpassing your reading and writing goals! A short introduction to me: I'm a journalist by trade, and while I consider myself a bit of a generalist, the subjects I write about most often are popular culture and media, fashion, sustainability and breaking news. I've been a professional writer for five years, but I am a lifelong reader and reach for classic novels first over anything else. Outside of my work, I enjoy Youtube video essays, magazines (I'm a paper fiend!) and movies. From 2022 through 2024, I worked with Yale University's Be (A) Part program. There, I assisted students one-on-one in college admissions preparation; I guided my students in essay/personal statement ideation, outlining and editing, as well as resume and college entrance interview preparation. In 2025, I worked in several NYC high school classrooms as an in-house tutor for all levels of English and Language Arts classes. I also helped students prepare for the Regents exams (New York's required standardized testing). Most of my tutoring experience has been with high school and college students. My teaching/tutoring style is one of patience, diligence and individualization. I tailor all of my lessons to students' needs, and keenly understand that everyone learns and understands differently; I take care to ensure that my students (of all ages and levels) comprehend what they are reading before moving forward to the next topic. Reading and comprehending subject matter can be quite challenging, but I've got a few tips and tricks I can share about how to make it less daunting! I have an eye for detail and know what makes for a compelling narrative and engaging story: if you want to craft a paper, essay or personal statement that is grammatically sound and beautifully composed, I am the tutor for you. I look forward to speaking with you!
