I am a graduate of New York University and received my Bachelor of Science in Finance. I also completed my premedical coursework at NYU and will be attending medical school in July 2015 as my next step to becoming a pediatrician. Ever since high school, I have tutored and worked with children of all ages and from all backgrounds. As a tutor at Mathnasium, I worked with elementary and middle school students to improve their math skills. In college, I worked for America Reads and served as a reading tutor for 3rd graders in a NYC public school. And after graduation, I spent my time before medical school teaching self-contained 4th grade in Houston ISD. While I tutor a wide range of age groups and content areas, I am most passionate about tutoring math, science, and college admission tests (SAT and ACT). As a public school teacher, I am also very familiar with 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade STAAR strategies and content. I have had a lifelong passion for working with children, teaching, learning, and math/science. I truly enjoy building relationships with my students and watching them grow academically. Besides teaching children, some of my hobbies include: hiking, skiing, swimming, working with animals, and enjoying the great outdoors.

I recently finished my Master's Degree in Foreign Language Education (in Mandarin) at New York University's Steinhardt School of Education, Culture, and Human Development. Prior to this, I completed my undergraduate degree at The University of Western Australia, majoring in Investment Finance, Corporate Finance, and Financial Accounting. I am fluent/native in Mandarin, English, and Japanese. My multilingual and multicultural background, in my considered opinion, is the little helpmate for building up my experiences above all things. Before taking graduate courses in teaching at New York University, I have gradually found my dual interests in business and education, which could've appeared to stand opposed to each other. I never overlooked my obsession of teaching languages in different areas and settings. I started tutoring several students Mandarin Chinese since high school, and until now, I've been tutoring my VP of Operation in Orbit360 Inc. academic Mandarin since the end of last year. By addressing more authentic learning materials instead of only relying on textbooks, she has enhanced her speaking and listening skills from beginner to intermediate while developing really good writing and reading proficiencies. Earlier this year, I had half-year ESL teaching experience at Discovery Learning Center in Manhattan. I was co-teaching the intermediate level adult session, focusing on enhancing students' language learning interests by giving content-based topics, such as American cultures, history, and pop music. In 2011, I had the chance to be the teacher assistant teaching Japanese at the Beginner level.

Towards this end, I highly encourage questions from my students so that together we may work through any lingering confusion. While studying at NYU I worked at 2 public schools in New York City as a teacher's assistant, and last year I taught english to high school students in the south of France. I am a current undergraduate student at NYU Stern School of Business, pursuing a major in Finance and Statistics and a minor in Advanced Mathematical Methods. My academic work has given me a solid foundation in both mathematics and economics, backed up by a 790 on the SAT Math and 5's on the AP Calculus AB and BC exams. I've continued this at NYU with coursework in calculus, linear algebra, and microeconomic theory that has reinforced both my technical skills as well as my ability to demystify difficult material. I began tutoring at Kumon during high school, where I instructed students from elementary school to early high school level math and reading. That experience taught me how to adapt my teaching to different learning styles, reinforce fundamentals, and guide students toward independent problem solving. Since then, I've tutored informally, helping classmates at NYU with math courses. My approach is patient, structured, and focused on building confidence. I believe that with the right guidance and mindset, any student can succeed in math, and I'm excited to help make that happen.

I received my Bachelor of Arts in Cinema Studies from New York University. At NYU, I also completed the premedical curriculum and am currently seeking admission into medical school. I grew up in Central New Jersey as a student of the largest high school district in the state. My own educational opportunities have helped me develop a passion and reverence for education. I spent my first postgraduate year serving under-resourced 8th grade students in Brooklyn; in this position, I helped motivate and lead my students, many of whom face great challenges and adversity in life, to academic success in the subjects of Math, English, and Science. While I tutor many subjects, I have a particular passion for Math and Sciences seeing as those are the subjects I will continue to pursue in my own life. I have also had particular success in prepping students for test taking by using my extensive experience in this area to assist my students. I would describe my teaching style and philosophy as a development of mutual respect; I have come to understand that a student's respect for learning is often a reflection of his or her teacher's attitude toward the learning process. I am a patient and caring teacher and I care greatly for my students' improvements. In my free time, you can find me fancying myself a film critic or picking up a stray set on the tennis court.

I take a great interest in language and social science. Growing up, I was educated in a bilingual institution (Spanish and English), but have taken to learning other languages at a university level, such as French and German. My interest in social sciences was fostered by my academic coursework as I completed my undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. I achieved a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology with a concentration in Archaeology and Religious Studies at New York University and recently acquired a Master of Science in Zooarchaeology at the University of York (United Kingdom). My specialization in archaeological science has enabled me to learn a broad spectrum of topics that span from history to geochemistry, genetics, and biology. I am however a huge animal lover (hence the 'zoo' in zooarchaeology! Have you been brushing up on your Greek?).Although I spend a significant amount of time in a trench or in the laboratory, one of my favorite aspects of academia is teaching, passing down the tomes of human knowledge to those who come after you. This is one reason why I highly value being able to teach and tutor. I would like for students to be as excited about these topics as I am! This requires being adaptable and perceptive in order to meet the student's needs as an instructor. I hope we can make a great team and achieve your academic goals.

I graduated from New York University Stern School of Business with double majors in Actuarial Science and Finance and a joint minor in Computer Science and Mathematics. I am currently working as a Model Risk Specialist. I have passed 4 actuarial exams (P, FM, MFE, C) with only one attempt in each exam. My actuarial knowledge is applicable to both finance and statistics. As a model risk specialist, I am proficient in SQL and Python, and I used them on daily basis to perform task automation. My practical experience not only can prepare students for their exams but also their real-life usage.I am also an experienced tutor in android apps development for middle school and high school students. Over the course of 10 weeks, I will teach my students to develop 10 different android apps.My tutoring approach is straightforward. I boil down the concepts into intuitive understanding for students to digest and I then help them utilize their understanding of concepts into solving exam/assignment questions. Combined with my 7 years of tutoring with students in various levels (college, high school, and middle school). I graduated cum laude from NYU with a major in Character, focusing on characters in Literature, Theatre, and Film, and how character relates to Philosophy and Psychology. When I'm not tutoring, I work in theatre and film (everything ranging from The Muppets and musical comedy to more serious stories grounded in history), and have been involved with productions on Broadway, at Carnegie Hall, and at additional venues throughout the country. I love to travel, and feel fortunate to have worked on projects that have taken me to Africa and England. I recently returned to New York (where I was born and raised), and am excited to "pay it forward" to the next generation, helping students reach their full potential.I'm a strong advocate for creating individualized educational plans that are suited to best meet each student's needs. As a child, I struggled with getting ideas from my head to the page, overcame that challenge, and was named "most improved" by my high school's English department. Thanks to the development of those skills, I earned a perfect 12 on the ACT's Writing section, and was named a National Merit Commended Scholar following my performance on the PSAT. After experiencing such dramatic improvements firsthand, I'm proud to tutor in English, Reading, and Writing techniques at all age levels, and to apply those skills toward the ACT, SAT, and AP exams. In my opinion, positivity, creativity, and patience are crucial skills in effective education, and I strive to utilize them in all of my sessions. Additionally, I teach Arts courses at the Museum of the Moving Image, and have found that asking guided questions is a far more powerful method of learning and retention than is typically true of material taught through lecturing. I love humor and try to use it as a motivation technique, relating coursework to each student's specific interests. My hope is to help students achieve a greater mastery of concepts (beyond individual assignments or problem sets), and I look forward to having the chance to work with you!

The first rule of writing is that writing is hard. What I love is showing students how to enjoy the process, whether it's for an academic essay or a creative piece. I have experience tutoring writing subjects from the 1st grade to college undergraduate levels. By practicing methods such as outlining and concept mapping, I help students see writing as a puzzle that can be solved to create a coherent picture rather than a jumble of ideas thrown at a blank page.Writing, even academic, can be very personal which is why I believe positive reinforcement is the best method for tutoring this subject. So often, it's easy to forget to identify what students are doing right in their work and only focus on the critical. I make a point of showing students what is great about their work, so that they continue performing well in those areas, as well as identifying areas for improvement. For academic writing, I aide students with their understanding of reading comprehension, research skills, and essay structure as well as appropriate language use. For creative writing, I have a variety of writing exercises that help students stretch their imaginations as well as understand various elements such as tense, POV and story structure.I hold a MA in Creative Writing and Publishing and MFA in Creative Writing both from Kingston University in London, England and received my BA from New York University. Several of my short stories have been published and I've also earned university awards for my work. While at Kingston, I led seminars for the undergraduate courses Reading for Writers and Experiments in Form, which involved tutoring students in critical and creative writing and reading comprehension. I provided one-to-one support as needed as well as pastoral care for students. During this time, I also completed my Post-Graduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education.I also privately tutored college English students online in essay writing, research skills and critical reading, and my students achieved whole letter grade improvements in their English classes since our sessions began. While in the UK, I also I tutored for a local tutoring company, working with students aged 5-14 in both math and English while encouraging a positive learning environment for children who sought additional help or required an extra challenge. At Explore Learning, I also taught the weekly 11+ Prep Exam Class, which prepares children aged 9-10 for the UK exam that determines where they attend secondary school. Subjects I tutored for this class included verbal and non-verbal reasoning, math, and English composition and comprehension.I also ran special literacy and numeracy workshops which focused on various topics such as grammar, creative writing, percentages and telling the time. I provided written and oral feedback to parents regarding their child's progress and worked closely with managers to ensure each child received support appropriate to their needs. In September 2012, I was awarded Tutor of the Month.I love helping students achieve their goals as they become assured, individual learners and hope I'll be able to help you, too!

My work with students has been ongoing since 2008 and has involved junior high students from New Jersey, high schoolers from New York, and even young ESL students in Shanghai. My expertise ranges from Middle School Math to Calculus I. I appreciate and respect math because of the precision, creativity, and attention to detail that it demands (and hopefully you will, too!). Geometry and Algebra are arguably the most strategy-oriented fields, and thus they are my favorite to explore.Tutoring should be engaging and dare I say enjoyable. Beyond the problem sets and test reviews, my task is to help you become a better and more creative thinker. The brain is a lot like a muscle; we should work it out together while having an appropriate amount of fun along the way. Despite what you may have heard, math is not this impossible and terrible thing cooked up to make you miserable. I think I can convince you of that. When I'm not working, I bike and do yoga. Otherwise I'm reading, writing limericks or maybe re-watching Breaking Bad.

I attended a Montessori school as a child and one of the most important things I gained from that experience was a sense of ownership over my own learning. It is easy for students to feel like passive participants in their own education and whether a student thrives or struggles in school often has as much to do with whether they have learned to play the game of getting good grades as it does with actual learning. When I work with a student I strive to form a personal connection with them and between them and the subject we are working on with the goal of helping them not only achieve their short term goals, but approach the subject in a more positive, productive way. One of my greatest strengths as a tutor is my empathy and attention to each student's individual point of view; everybody has different ways of learning most productively and I strive not to drill in concepts, but to help students see how they can best approach material to make it intuitive and natural to themselves.

I am a senior at New York University studying Social Research and Public Policy. I have spent the last three years traveling to different countries for school, and I have lived in three of them. I am passionate about education and social justice, and I am currently applying to grad school to study education and social work. I have 2 years of experience tutoring K-12 students, which has only inspired my goal to become a teacher. For elementary and middle school aged students, I tutor all subjects. For high school students, I tutor subjects like English (Reading, Writing, Literature), Psychology, History, and especially test prep for the PSATs, SATs, and ACTs. I find it extremely rewarding to help students learn to strategize and excel in standardized testing.

I'm passionate about guiding students in the world of philosophy and the humanities more broadly. With 7 years of teaching experience at the college level and many years of tutoring outside of college, I know what it's like to be stuck and lost in navigating difficult concepts. I believe in guiding students in incremental and simple steps to more challenging material, and that every student can be successful.

As a dedicated tutor with a Bachelor's in Applied Psychology and Public Policy from NYU, and currently pursuing a Master's in Public Administration at NYU Wagner, I am passionate about helping students build confidence and clarity not just in their academic material, but also in themselves. With over two years of experience working with diverse learners in both classroom and one-on-one settings, I specialize in subjects such as AP Psychology, AP U.S. Government & Politics, and writing comprehension. My teaching philosophy is centered around understanding each student's unique strengths and stressors, allowing me to tailor my approach to their individual learning styles. I employ real-world applications and active learning strategies, encouraging students to connect complex concepts to their lives. I believe that education should be engaging and relevant, and I am excited to support students on their journeys toward academic success while fostering their curiosity and independence. Outside of tutoring, I love creative writing, cooking new recipes, and exploring NYC's neighborhoods. I'm passionate about mental health advocacy and often volunteer with youth-focused programs. I also enjoy hiking when I'm home in Colorado, playing with my dog, and discovering cozy coffee shops to read in. Whether it's helping students build confidence or finding the best spot for cookies, I bring curiosity and care into everything I do.
