I am a very down to earth guy, who enjoys helping others do their best. I am currently a Doctoral student in Music, but have a special gift and love for math and science. First I aim to help my clients grasp the concepts, then adapt my instruction to their learning style. Most student can grasp even advanced concepts when explained in a reasonable way (this often does not happen in the classroom), but I also give them the little tips that save time, and teach them exactly what to look for to pinpoint the concept in any problem. I help them get in the instructor mentality, so they understand why problems are worded in a certain way and what the teacher is looking for. I like to share my experience so clients are better test takers, and improve their time management skills, lessons that I hope will help them far beyond any class.

I hope to share my knowledge with others and help anyone with questions and concepts
I'm a rising junior studying Biochemistry and Cell Biology at Rice University. I first started formally tutoring at the beginning my senior year of high school to fill up some of my free time after school. I've always enjoyed tutoring because I frequently helped my friends in my classes and really enjoyed seeing how I could impact my friends in their own success. I definitely made the right choice my senior year with tutoring because I met some remarkable families and got the opportunity to really help students in more of a long-term scope and see the difference in their grades. I'm a big advocate for the philosophy that "practice makes perfect" and I absolutely love my students that are ready to put in work.I specialize in tutoring math and science subjects. In my free time, I love playing sports (especially basketball), reading books, and spending time with my friends. I'm a pretty light-hearted and goofy person and I love to get to know people and hear their stories. If you have any questions, please message me!
I am an Arizona native. Upon graduating from Desert Mountain High School, I attended Rice University and I received my Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology with a business focus. At Rice I was a student/athlete representing the Division I Owls in track and field. After several years experience voluntarily tutoring friends and family members I became a professional private tutor my junior year of college. My senior year, I took advantage of the opportunity to reach more students, creating a small private tutoring company in Houston in which I served as lead tutor and conducted all business operations. After graduating from college, I moved back to Arizona and am excited to have the opportunity to continue my passion of helping young men and women achieve academic excellence through tutoring. I have experience tutoring elementary through college-aged students in all academic disciplines. My primary areas of focus include: math, English, and standardized test prep. In my spare time I enjoy exercising, following sports, and spending time with friends and family.
Hello! I am a third-year law student at Georgetown Law looking to provide academic and test-prep advice. I have applied to undergraduate schools and law school and have lots of experience going through the application process. I know it can be a stressful time, and I'd love to help however I can. This includes the SAT, ACT, and LSAT, all of which I have done well on (1550 / 35 / 174). I'm also happy to help with various academic subjects, particularly statistics and math up to AP Calculus; writing and grammar; and Latin. Look forward to meeting you all!
I've found that the most important aspect of tutoring is encouraging students to realize their own potential and ability to succeed, no matter what material lies before them. Learning is not just confined to facts in a textbook, and giving students the tools to succeed in school and beyond is of utmost importance to me.As a recent graduate from Rice University with a double-major in English and Biology, I have extensive experience with a broad range of academic subjects. My tutoring experience includes teaching introductory biology, working with students individually on their essay writing, and high school level mathematics. My strongest passion is English composition and English language/literature.
Hello! My name is Sunny, I am an incoming senior majoring in Biochemistry at Rice University, and I am thrilled to be your tutor! From all of my experiences working with kids, the biggest thing I have taken away is that childhood is the formative period in everyones life, when you are most vulnerable and malleable to outside influences. I believe having genuine and reliable guidance during such a time is critical to establishing a strong foundation for a well-rounded and successful adult, and it is something every child should have the privilege of receiving. Personally, I know I would not have made it this far without the positive support of my friends, family, and teachers from a young age, and that is why I wish to work with students through VarsityTutors. If you want a tutor who you can relate to and has a extensive background in the math and sciences, you know what to do.Qualifications: 35 ACT, 2360 SAT, 26 DAT (100th percentile)
I'm currently a freshman at Rice University studying applied math. I've always had a love for sharing knowledge with others, and I started tutoring when I was a junior in high school. As a former AP student and a National AP Scholar, I have the experience necessary to guide my students through challenging curriculum. Though I specialize in tutoring mathematics and physics, I am experienced with and am happy to tutor a broad range of subjects. For me, the learning experience is all about the relationship between the instructor and the learner; in my experience, educators who can't convey the excitement behind a given topic often leave their students behind. I firmly believe that once you get excited about learning something and seriously take ownership of that process, the knowledge and material will follow. In that sense, my job is to get you excited about learning!
Throughout my undergraduate education in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Notre Dame, I have developed a mastery of various subjects, but also a desire to share this knowledge with others. Because of this, I am enrolled in the Mechanical Engineering PhD program at Rice University which will begin Fall 2020, and I am hoping to return to academia as a professor after earning my PhD. In the meantime, I am looking to share my passion for gaining knowledge, specifically in STEM, by educating the up and coming members of such a great field. I have experience tutoring both Calculus and Physics at Notre Dame, as well as experience as a Student Assistant for Differential Equations and Mechanics. I believe the key to learning is much deeper than learning to solve problems and that seeking knowledge is one of the best means for personal improvement.
Hi, my name is Perry, and I am an incoming medical student at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. I graduated from Rice University in 2025 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology with minors in Medical Humanities and Business. When I took the SAT in 2020, I scored 1570. I utilized a private tutor who pushed me to exceed my potential. I have been tutoring for the SAT for 3 years, incorporating many of the techniques that my tutor taught me, and have helped students achieve scores that have exceeded my own! Having taken over 40 SAT exams, I am an expert on how questions are framed, the underlying math and grammar rules, and how to catch the test's deceiving tricks. My understanding of SAT allows me to walk my students through not only "what" to do, but also "why" we do something, which is ultimately what will help the students score the best come exam time.I know preparing for the SAT can be daunting. I was in your shoes not long ago, and I know that you need someone to keep you motivated and boost your confidence. To do this, I keep my sessions engaging by encouraging my students to chat with me through their thinking process as they solve problems, rather than letting them work them alone in silence. I will be there with you the whole way, and together, we can beat this test to earn your dream score!
I am a student at Rice University in Houston, Texas, currently earning my BS in Physics. Ever since I was little, I've had a passion for learning and understanding how the world works through the enlightening lenses of the sciences. I believe that in order to build a solid base of knowledge, an intuitive feel for analytical thinking is a must, and I hope to share this with my students, mainly through Physics and Mathematics. In my teaching style, I prefer to use a firm but gentle approach to learning, starting with a general principle before working step-by-step through its practical applications so that the student can properly understand and internalize the material. In my spare time, I greatly enjoy playing Super Smash Bros., listening to music, noodling on my guitar, and watching movies.
I am currently a double major at Rice University working towards a B.A. in mathematics and philosophy and expecting to graduate in December 2015. My education is geared towards a future in risk analysis and thus is heavily dependent on high level mathematics. My favorite subject is statistics. Not only does statistics incorporate other disciplines like calculus, but it also is very useful for modeling the real world. I have about one year of experience tutoring algebra and pre-algebra with good results.I can tutor through 8th grade math including pre-algebra, algebra 1-4, as well as statistics, pre-calculus, and ACT/SAT mathematics prep.My teaching philosophy is that practice makes perfect. When I am not working towards my degree, I am usually playing on a piano or listening to music while maybe skateboarding. I also like to watch lacrosse and rugby matches.
