I am a senior at Yale University majoring in Humanities. That means I get to study a wide variety of subjects: history, english, philosophy, art history, political philosophy, and more! I've worked as a coach on a rock climbing team for 3 years, so I have a lot of experience working with kids and teens of all ages. Through my volunteer work at an ancient art museum, I also gained experience designing classes and presentations for adults. My passion is writing, so I'm most excited to tutor English and help with college applications; having recently gone through the college application process myself, I am confident I can help craft stellar applications. When I'm not studying or tutoring, I love to rock climb and generally do anything outside. I love hiking, wakeboarding, and kayaking, and can talk about the outdoors for hours!

I graduated from Yale University, with distinction, with a B.A. in Religious Studies. I also graduated from the Duke Divinity School, Summa Cum Laude. I began tutoring when I was in high school. I taught ESL middle school students essential English and Math skills. Since then, I have taught Math, Writing, Study Skills, and Chemistry in a summer program at an elite California private school. I have also developed curriculum for high school and college students in Theology and Religious Studies. I particularly enjoy assisting students with test preparation. By helping students to master core English and Math skills, I can aid students to open doors for their future. My favorite moments as a tutor are when a student grasps concepts we have been working on and they understand the material in a new way. In addition to teaching, over the last five years, I have served as a Mentor to youth and college students. I believe that encouragement and mentoring are essential components of a successful tutoring relationship. While teaching students the skills they need to succeed, I help students to gain confidence in their abilities, and to see their own potential. When I am not tutoring, I enjoy baking, eating anything with chocolate, taking and editing pictures, reading, and singing.

Attending a Liberal Arts College for my undergraduate degree has also given me valuable expertise in writing, public speaking, and the arts. I have taught my own review section for a high-level Cellular Biology course in which I reviewed complex material to help students better understand difficult topics in the class. I have also served as a Teaching Fellow for a graduate-level cancer biology course running my own recitation sections. My experience in education spans multiple formats such as counselor for summer research camps, teaching assistant for college courses, tutor for college courses, and dance instructor. These different positions have pushed me to broaden my perspective on how to communicate with students and address the topics they do not understand. While my educational background has more than prepared me to understand the basics of the science subjects that my students were studying, my goal as an instructor reaches beyond simply teaching the lesson; I also aim to spark my student's interests in the subject and make the lesson fun for them. I know from personal experience that learning any lesson is easier when one is interested and enjoys the learning experience. To that effect, I use concepts and analogies that relate to the students and grab their interests, and this relation may be from other topics or courses they have previously studied or an experience they come across on a daily basis. The latter is especially effective since that daily experience would serve to reinforce the lessons for the students and commit it to memory. These techniques, along with others, work well for tutoring since we often must cover a large amount of information in a relatively short amount of time.

I didn't get into Yale because I'm naturally smart. I'm not that guy that can just look at a problem on the board and just figure it out in seconds. I hate asking that guy for help because he doesn't know how to explain somethinghe just gets it right away. He's never sat down and broken it down. I never was that guy and I will never be that guy.I will always be that guy that stays after class to asks questions because I didn't get it right away. I will always be that guy that is in office hours from start to end until I get it right. My whole life I have always been the guy on the other side of the table. I am the guy who always gets tutored, and that is why I make a great tutor. I know how people want to be helped, I've been there. I love tutoring people in anything: college essays, algebra, linear algebra, calculusanything I have ever loved to do. Tutoring has taught me empathy and patience. Two vital components that a great tutor has. I am hard working and I love seeing others succeed.I will able to tutor for most of this summer, so about from the end of May to mid-August. I am on break and would love to tutor. I will be able to tutor for about 20 hours a weekor more, depending on what comes up this summerpreferably during the day but if evenings are prioritized then I can work evenings as well.

I am currently a sophomore at Yale University majoring in Neuroscience. For all of my time during high school and college so far, I have been passionate about tutoring. In high school, I worked at Mathnasium, a math tutoring center, and have had extensive experience working with students in elementary, middle, and high school. Everyone learns differently, and I have to be perceptive enough to assess what they need. The same method won't work for every student, but I've developed a vault of techniques to use for every skill that I teach, so if they aren't getting it, I just start up a new way of teaching. Currently, I am a chemistry tutor on campus. The most rewarding part of tutoring is seeing when the students truly understand a concept. You can physically see their thought process, the gears grinding in their head, and, when it all clicks, their eyes light up. In my free time, I am a part of an a cappella group on campus and I volunteer with Yale Children's Theater to organize theater workshops for local elementary school students.
