I am currently a PhD candidate completing my doctorate at Yale University in the Medieval Studies department and has previously obtained masters degrees in English Literature and Medieval Studies from Yale, The University of Georgia, and the University of Glasgow. An Atlanta native, I returned from New Haven to live and work in Georgia while I finish the final stages of his dissertation. Over the course of my studies, I have taught undergraduate literature and history as an instructor at Yale, the University of Georgia, Oxford University, the University of Glasgow, the University of Connecticut, and Wesleyan College (Macon, Georgia). At the same time, I have worked as a teacher and tutor for the LSAT, GMAT, and GRE for over thirteen years. I am one of two authors of the all-new revision of Barrons GMAT guide and Barrons Passkey to the GMAT, and have previously written content for Kaplan, Parliament Tutors, and Success Prep. Because of my lengthy experience, I am intimately familiar with the methods and principles used by the major test preparation companies and have developed a variety of methods of his own. I take a different approach from the major national test prep companies in that I recognize that each student is different and that no single method is best for all test-takers. Come test day, the most successful students will be those who have found ways to combine their own native strengths with an additional complement of of time-tested techniques learned through rigorous study. I enjoy helping my students find the approach that will allow them to meet confidently their future educational goals. I am a recent graduate of Yale University and incoming first year medical student at Columbia University. Originally from the DC area, I have always had a passion for science and medicine and pursued a degree in Biology while at Yale. During the 2008-2009 academic year, I tutored science, math, English, history, and Mandarin Chinese part-time with a DC-based tutoring company. At Yale, I worked as a freshman counselor to provide academic and career advice to incoming freshmen. I have taken both SAT and MCAT test prep classes and am familiar with both tests as well as the preparation necessary to score well. My personal career goals include attending medical school to pursue either immunology/infectious diseases or psych/neurology, teaching biology at the university level, and working in public/global health with either the CDC or the WHO.In terms of tutoring style, I like use examples and explanations, practice problems, short-term and long-term scheduling, and positive feedback to achieve results with my students. I find real-world examples are often useful in explaining difficult concepts and restoring interest in a subject. At times I too struggled with science and know how important it is to stay motivated in order to succeed.In my spare time, I enjoy volunteering, listening to and performing music (jazz and classical/choral), swimming, and hip-hop dance.

I'm an elementary school teacher at a classical school outside of Boston. I graduated from Yale last year with a B.S. in psychology. As a student I worked as an undergraduate research assistant in a cognitive neuroscience lab, studied in Paris, debated with the Yale Political Union, and took part in numerous off-campus mentoring and counseling activities. In many ways I am still a student, always trying to grow as a person and in my profession. My favorite subject to teach is math, because there are often many different ways to approach any one problem - the fun is in finding out what works for you!

I'm a senior at Yale University studying anthropology, originally from California. My academic interests center on understanding how culture, inequality, and lived experience shape the way people navigate health and social systems. I am a recent graduate of Yale University as well as of a prestigious New York City Magnet High School. I graduated with a B.A. in an interdisciplinary major focused on economics and political science (3.9 GPA and magna cum laude). It is my belief that what makes a great teacher is the ability to listen and fully take in where a particular student is coming from. We don't ask enough questions of our students. Each of us is so very unique, with a specific way in which we learn and take in information. We must ask questions in order to find out where a student is coming from and how they view their own challenges, so that we can truly impart information that will help that specific student become a better learner. My job is to not only help the student overcome specific content hurdles, but to also help them become a better learner overall. That is my global view on our responsibility as educators. The teachers that impacted me the most where the ones that engaged my creativity while challenging me to go further and bolstering my belief in myself.Therefore, it is my responsibility to carefully observe and take in what an individual students challenges or blocks may be, and tailor my tutoring specifically to target those challenges, while reinforcing what the student already does well. My ability to use my instincts and my observational listening skills to uncover a students potential challenges, coupled with my natural teaching ability and my verbal communication skills make me a very effective tutor.
