I am a 2014 graduate of Cornell University's College of Engineering where I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Biological Engineering. I have just begun my Master's Degree in Biomedical Engineering at Drexel University. My favorite subjects to tutor include Test Prep and elementary/middle school subjects. I enjoy helping younger students so that they can be excited about learning and begin their education with a solid foundation in reading, writing, and mathematics. I believe it is important to provide students with the proper tools to succeed at a young age so that they continue to have a desire to learn for the rest of their lives. I loved my college experience and want to show high school students that with practice and diligence, they too can perform well on standardized tests and go on to the university of their choosing. To accomplish academic goals at any level, it is important for the student to have fun while learning! I personalize my teaching approach to fit the student's learning style so that he or she can easily transition from learning a concept to applying it to a given problem. I earned my bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, then worked in the computer database software industry as a pre-sales engineer, consultant, trainer, and quality assurance engineer. Consulting in several industries gave me broad exposure to real-world problems and a work ethic that may serve as a role model. I learned to listen to problems and come up with creative and practical solutions. As a trainer and pre-sales engineer, I co-wrote a tutorial, created class materials, and made many technical presentations about "leading edge" software, and so became skilled at explaining complex concepts. My work in QA reinforced my obsession with quality and gave me a good eye for seeing and diagnosing errors, which applies to student errors and misunderstandings.I have tutored on and off since my college days, in math, science and ESL. My first experience teaching and tutoring was in May 2005 in Taipei City, Taiwan. It was a formative experience for me because I was teaching and tutoring students whose native language was not English. They truly helped me grow as an instructor because of the cultural and linguistic challenges that they brought to the fore.My tutoring philosophy is simple. Teach a student how to think and study. I am a recent Cornell University graduate (Dec '23) majoring in Biological Sciences with a focus on Genetics, Genomics, and Development. This position transformed into a leadership role, organizing our teaching team while spearheading an initiative to train fellow teaching assistants in pedagogical techniques that I learned in a course I took on the art of teaching. Lastly, in an ethics of medicine course of non-STEM majors, I prepared and facilitated discussion sections on current topics in personalized medicine. These experiences, combined with my time as a teaching assistant in correctional facilities, helped me grow as a varsity tutor now going into my 4th year on this platform. Given this breadth of experience teaching diverse and unique students, I am eager and excited to support young scientists in any subject related to this field.

I tutor because it is fun and rewarding. I love sharing my knowledge with others and help students get past learning hurdles. I have more than 5 years of tutoring experience and experience tutoring elementary students all the way up to college students.Currently I am a sophomore at Cornell University studying neuroscience as my major and math as my minor. Even at college I have continued tutoring. I am on the E-board for our tutoring club. I also lead a study section for college students currently taking Comparative Physiology.For Varsity Tutors I tutor in the following subjects: biology, psychology, algebra, geometry, calculus, Latin, statistics, test prep, essay editing, writing, and reading.

I am a second year law student at the University of Chicago who hails from the San Francisco Bay Area! I tutor the SAT, ESL, and Spanish. I was an AVID tutor in high school, and after college I taught an ESL class and tutored a high school student in Spanish. In law school, I am involved with the Lawyers in the Classroom program. My tutoring philosophy is based on listening to students work through problems and helping them to spot their confusions or incorrect assumptions. I believe students learn much better when they aren't simply told the right answer or right reasoning; they need to get there on their own.Outside of academia, I love to sing. I'm classically trained, but I also participated in a cappella in college! I also ran my first marathon this year, and I love to cook and try new recipes.

I recently graduated from college with a degree in engineering. Although it was taxing at times, an education in engineering allows students to draw connections between the theoretical realm of math or science with the physical world. I hope to create this context for the students that I tutor. Also, while I love learning and teaching subjects in math and science, I have a passion for language as well.
