I found my passion for teaching students about a year ago and have loved it ever since. I have experience teaching and tutoring general chemistry and organic chemistry at Arizona State University (I do practice better lab safety than what my photo would suggest). However, I do have a solid foundation within the fields of biochemistry and biology courses. I enjoy all sciences and really enjoy helping students find their passion for the sciences. I strongly believe in the student finding the answers to their own questions with the help of a few guiding questions I ask. However, I am able to adapt to any learning style in order to benefit the student.I started my academic career at Arizona State University three years ago. I am currently pursuing a B.S. in Health Sciences with a minor in Spanish and another minor in Nutrition and Healthy Living. I hope to attend medical school after I graduate and become a physician of some sort. I currently hold an officer position in the American Medical Student Association at ASU and currently work as an organic chemistry instructional aide (similar to a TA). I am currently conducting research for my Barrett Honors thesis on the effects of the hunger hormone ghrelin and its effects on metabolic demands and body composition. I am very fortunate to be able to have my own research study as an undergrad and am very passionate about this field of study. On a more personal note, I am a big Star Wars fan and love everything about it. I enjoy outdoor recreational activities such as camping, hiking, and recreational shooting. Pretty much, anything outdoors I am all for it (except rock climbing, I don't do heights). I look forward to meeting all sorts of students and helping them succeed in their own academic endeavors.

I am a junior at Arizona State University and am pursuing a degree in Social Work with a minor in Mathematics. I completed two years in Civil Engineering, until I realized I wanted a people oriented field that enabled me to aid people in various situations; thus switching majors. I have previously tutored in a middle school, high school and online environment - and have also worked as a college mentor for different ASU programs. I am excited to keep on tutoring in mathematics and helping students understand and learn, not just memorize. There is potential for any dreams of any student to come true that is why I enjoy tutoring, and I want to be the support and encourage and to prepare the students. My hobbies include but are not limited to hiking, swimming, meeting new people, trying new foods, expanding my knowledge by learning new things and living the adventure that life is. I really enjoy and am excited to help students and invest my time and resources in a great investment - our future leaders and generation!
Tutoring with humor and compassion. I'm a first-generation college graduate from a working-class family. My teachers were some of the most positive influences in my life, and I want to pass on their legacy by helping students succeed. I have three years of experience tutoring college chemistry, and one year tutoring statistics. I have a PhD in microbiology, and use statistical modeling in my research. Additionally, I have taught science majors and non-majors at ASU and MCC as an instructor and as a teaching assistant for four years. When I meet a new tutoring client, I start by asking about their goals, and determining their preferred learning styles in order to help customize their learning experience. I use a variety of established teaching strategies based on how the brain, memory, and human psychology work together to foster enjoyable and successful learning.
I am a graduate of Arizona State University. I received my Bachelor in Elementary Education emphasis in Middle Grades Science and Master in Educational Leadership emphasis Principalship. I currently attend Grand Canyon State University studying for my PhD in General Psychology: Integrating technology, Learning and Psychology. I have taught for over a decade learning and growing alongside my students. I have experience with creating curriculum that is designed to the specific needs of the student in alignment to the state's standardized assessment. My decade of experience is all within Title I schools serving schools of families that have a high percentage of low-income needs to provide equity and overcome academic needs. My success as an educator comes from the child. Together, we will meet every work in unison to ensure that learning gaps become narrower by making learning exciting. I approach each day with an opportunity to learning from my mistakes and start anew while translating my understanding of Positive Psychology, practicing empathy, and nurturing the whole-child socially and emotionally.
During my 3.5 years at Arizona State University I could never pick a focused area of study because I was, and still am, interested in everything. I started off as a math major because I was already very accomplished in the subject, having taken Calc 3 and Differential Equations in high school. However, I found myself wanting to explore other subjects as soon as I started college, taking courses in art and music history, dance, anthropology, and biology. I excelled in all of them, making it even harder for me to choose just one thing. I then became a biological sciences major, with an emphasis on genomics, but I couldnt let go of my other interests, wanting to continue my studies in anthropology, math, and dance. A year into that major and I wanted to change yet again, this time to physical anthropology. A year into physical anthropology, and I wanted to change my major even still. This time though I knew I had to slow down and really think about what it is I want to do.In my time away I have realized that what has remained constant for me is a love of learning. This is why I continue to go to my local library every month, consistently leaving with a stack of 10+ books. Furthermore, while taking classes in college I found that I really enjoyed helping other students succeed in their studies. I helped people in chemistry labs and biology labs, edited essays, and worked through math problem sets with other students. When I tutored students, regardless of subject, I would bring patience and understanding with me to the session. If they were not grasping a concept, then I knew it was something that I was doing wrong. Everyone learns differently and at different paces, and my goal was and is to be able to communicate the information you want to know in a style that is most suitable for you. Additionally, when it comes to math and science courses, I emphasize conceptual understanding. When tutoring and talking to other students in chemistry, physics, etc. , I found that often times they did not know why a formula worked or why a step was being taken, causing them to make mistakes when problems did not perfectly resemble examples done in class. When I tutor, I will make sure that students have a qualitative as well as a quantitative understanding of the material, making them more adaptable to different formats of test questions. And if youre wondering about French being listed in my tutoring subjects, I took four years of French in high school, placed top 10 in the National French test my junior and senior years, and I continue to work on my French by listening and talking to my boyfriend and his family, for whom French is one of their native languages.
Hi, I'm Julia. I'm an undergraduate student at Arizona State University majoring in Biochemistry and Spanish with a minor in English, so I have experience with a wide variety of subjects. I graduated valedictorian of my high school, where I tutored students in AP chemistry, physics (I and II), English literature and language, and calculus. However, I am also comfortable tutoring middle school students in science, math, and writing. I believe that everyone learns differently and am a strong supporter of creative problem solving - even in math and science classes.
I am currently a senior at ASU. I will be applying to medical school in the near future. I am very easy going and easy to get along with. I specialize in any of the sciences, including chemistry (inorganic and organic), biology, microbiology, anatomy/physiology.I hope to see you soon!
I graduated from Barrett, the Honors College at Arizona State University with a B.S. in physics and a B.S. in mathematics. I was recently accepted into the graduate program at UC Davis, where I will study and perform research for several years to earn a doctorate in physics. From there, I hope to proceed to a faculty position at a university, where I can continue to do research and both teach and inspire future students. When I am not studying or performing research, I enjoy playing video games, card games, or role-playing games with my friends. I also am an amateur engineer, participating in the online community of laser enthusiasts. Together, we construct circuitry, design housings, and align lenses to create not laser pens for pets, but high-powered, scientific lab lasers. While studying at ASU, I regularly worked with fellow students on mathematics and physics problems that they found challenging. In high school, I tutored a middle school student weekly in organizational and homework skills, mathematics, and science. Because of my specialty in math and physics, I am most comfortable tutoring those two subjects, ranging from Freshman physics through quantum theory and from algebra through more advanced mathematics subjects such as real analysis. Further, I enjoy it! Both mathematics and physics are sciences of problem-solving and perseverance, but once a solution is found, the work is greatly rewarding. In past experiences teaching and tutoring, I have found that I tend to lecture and use examples to ensure my classmates or students are not only capable of getting the right answer, but understanding why the answer they obtain is the correct one. I find that lecturing is useful to provide explanations for concepts that the student would otherwise have to simply memorize (and not understand), and the working of examples is useful to reinforce the methods and concepts used when solving particular problems. Regardless of how I am working with a student, however, I tend to always introduce a sort of humor and quirkiness that is necessary to set the light, easy-going mood that defines my teaching style.
Knowledge and the pursuit of it has always been incredibly important to me. Teaching/tutoring fits in well with these passions, there's nothing I enjoy more than instilling the same passion for learning I have in other people.I am currently working on a Bachelors of Science in Biology at Arizona State University, so Biology is certainly my strong suit. I am also currently working for the Social Insect Research Group (SIRG) at ASU doing Genetics work on a local harvester ant species. I love research and I love teaching individuals, especially when the information I am providing is not well known. In the past I have worked in medicine as an EMT/Ski Patroller and a Medical Assistant.I truly love academia and plan to pursue a PhD and a professorship later on but it doesn't totally encapsulate my life. I also love to ride my bike (both mountain and road). Nearly anything that will get me outside, I'm certain to enjoy (rock climbing, hiking, backpacking). Photography is another activity I enjoy, and it goes very well with my "outdoorsy" activities by giving me a way to artistically capture the beauty around me on my hikes.Tutoring is really a great system for reinforcing learning. One-on-one interactions are difficult with how large schools are in major metropolitan areas and individual teaching can be so beneficial for individuals who desire something more than the traditional "lecture and parrot back" form of teaching.
I attended Arizona State University's Ira A. Fulton School of Engineering, where I received a Bachelor of Science in Engineering for Engineering Management with a focus on Business Analysis, and I minored in Sustainability. During my studies, I was a personal tutor for elementary and middle school children and was an undergraduate teaching assistant for engineering courses. I also was a routine presenter at Family Science Night at elementary schools in the Atlanta Metro with IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers). I am a massive proponent for spreading the real-life fun of STEM, especially to underrepresented groups!
I am passionate about tutoring students because I feel like I'm very capable of doing that and it feels good to help. I like to provide visuals for students to help better understand the topics. That, and I tend to prompt students with questions throughout the process to get their brains thinking. I got my education from Estrella Mountain Community College (Associates in Science) and Arizona State University (Bachelor's in Software Engineering).
My name is Elana! I am a senior at Arizona State University working on a Management degree, so I'm familiar with most business courses. I currently work as a Special Ed teaching assistant for Scottsdale Unified School District, where I teach kids ages 3-18 years in all kinds of courses. I also used to work as an Employment Specialist, so I'm great at editing essays, teaching public speaking, and anything related to professional development. I also have experience with visual art and design and love to teach drawing and painting!
