Hi, I'm Safia! Having tutored for the LSAT for over two years, and having gone through the process of applying and being accepted to law school myself (Columbia Law School), I am confident that I can be an incredible tutor for you.I am a recent graduate from Columbia University, majoring in human rights and comparative religion, while also holding a degree in political science from Sciences Po. However, I also have an extensive background in literature, history, and political science, having been an AP Scholar in those subjects. I currently work as a university tutor for essay writing and LSAT prep, following my work at Hunter College High School as a teaching assistant for 7th grade social studies and as a tutor for individual students for primary school math and science courses.Raised by international travelers and humanitarian workers, I have grown up in the midst of political turmoil during my time living in Cairo, Damascus, Paris, Amman, and Menton, spurring my interest in politics and other humanitarian issues facing the developing world early on. I truly love tutoring as it allows me to help others cultivate their knowledge and abilities and realize their full potential. I'm incredibly understanding when it comes to the individuality of learning and how each student responds differently, and having worked with so many different types of students on a variety of topics, I can assure you that we will be able to work together to help you or your child thrive.

I believe learning is the key to success. No matter the goals that define what one determines success to be, one must be able to live a life of continuous learning in order to stay intellectually sharp and keep up to pace with a changing future. The perplexing hurdle that prevents learning is not knowing how to learn. Contrary to intuitive thought, learning must be learned. Memorization of material without truly understanding concepts is not learning rather, it is a dangerous road that leads to falsehood of knowledge. My goal as a teacher of any subject is to assist the student to come to their own conclusions through the analysis and use of underlying concepts. The independent determination of concepts marks the skill of learning. It must be known that this is not an easy thing to accomplish and struggling is inevitable; however, persistence through the struggle results in moments of glorifying clarity. As a teacher, my job is to provide the tools necessary to succeed in this way. As a result, I use an approach of teaching in which the use of visual aids and examples allow the student to relate any subject to their personal goals. I believe this approach keeps the student motivated throughout the process of learning.I promise to do my best to teach a student how to teach themselves, think independently, think critically, and become successful as a result.

I am a student at Columbia University studying Chemical Physics and Mathematics. I have worked as a private tutor for the past 3.5 years, tutoring in a variety of high school and early college subjects. I frequently tutor in science and math subjectshaving taught just about every related subject offered in high school. I have a significant amount of tutoring experience, and I have produced positive results.Among the techniques I employ as a tutor, I stress self-help strategies to ensure that students do not become dependent on the crutch of a tutor or teacher. Often, a student may work well with an instructor but is unable to solve problems or understand concepts alone. I make sure to prod students in the appropriate direction of thinking, without blatantly doing the problems for them. I do not give out any rules unless the student understands how the rule was established. Through these techniques, the student retains the information and becomes a better, more independent problem-solver.

I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, I primarily grew up in San Francisco, CA and Austin, TX. I study and work in New York City as student at Columbia University. I am currently a senior studying Biomedical Engineering with concentrations in computer science and electrical engineering. I attended high school at St. Andrew's Episcopal School where I focused extensively on mathematics and science. My high school also nurtured strong discussion and writing skills. Although I was also involved in sports and musicals, I enjoyed participating in academic competitions, in which I could explore my engineering interests, such as Science Olympiad and TEAMS. In high school, I primarily tutored in biology, physics, and mathematics. Tutoring was my way to gain teaching experience and give back to my school. In college, for similar reasons, I currently work as a TA in computer science. I also conduct glaucoma research in a clinical research lab.My tutoring approach is very methodical; I identify and isolate issues, while imparting fundamental knowledge and problem solving tips. The key to mastering any subject-I believe- is the ability to identify and understand grey areas and edge-cases in the material. I help my students identify these critical questions and answer them to the best of my abilities. I will admit, however, when I don't know the answer to a question. Rather than mislead my students, I always prefer to research an answer or attack the question together. I help my students get to the bottom of things.
