My experience as a teacher has set me up well to be an excellent tutor. Over the course of the last three years, I have taught all grades of high school, students of varying ability levels, and myriad courses. When I taught at Fairmont Heights High School, I taught honors students and also coached seniors who had not yet passed the Biology state test they needed to graduate. At the Noble Academy, I taught AP Biology ninth graders as well as all of our ninth graders with IEPs. Three ninth graders passed the AP Biology exam and the ninth grade grew 2.18 points as a whole on the ACT science section. I therefore am an incredibly flexible teacher, who can adapt lessons to a range of ability levels and content areas, which contributes to the success my students have achieved on their state tests, ACT, and AP Biology exam. It is important to me that my students are engaged because from that engagement, we can build investment in the material and skills they need to learn. I like to incorporate labs, hands-on experience, competitions, games, videos, and compelling activities (for example, writing letters to the government about harmful algal blooms to a graphing project on the abundance of the invasive species, "rock snot") into skill building and practice. I care deeply about my students and they know that. They know that I always believe in them and will always be challenging them to do their best, be it through timed Do Nows to create urgency, charts tracking individual and class success, or simply through getting extra help during office hours. In my spare time, I am a runner, a reader, a lover of outdoors, and a traveller! I am also a people person and enjoy spending time with family and friends, as well as meeting new people!

I am a recent graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, where I majored in mathematics and minored in creative writing and statistics. I tutor math, reading, and writing up to the college level. My favorite subject to tutor is Algebra, because I believe it is the most intuitive area in math, and nothing in teaching brings me more joy than in helping students develop their own sense of intuition towards a subject.I have experience working with students at the elementary, middle school, and high school level in math. This has included creating individualized plans to work with a student's needs, whether they are in need of support with working on assignments or lessons to supplement the curriculum for their level. My tutoring style is focused on putting the student first: making sure that they feel comfortable asking questions, that their needs are understood and respected, and that, as we progress, they are gaining the skills and confidence to tackle any challenges that come their way.

Growing up, most kids are defined by the sports they love to play or the instruments they like to play. Some kids love to sing, act, dance, draw, paint, or participate in other activities. I, however, was always defined simply by my love of learning. I started reading Harry Potter when I was five years old; I was the only child in my Kindergarten class to have private advanced math lessons. When I was unable to sleep, I read trivia books and fun fact encyclopedias. None of this is to brag about my intelligence, rather to demonstrate that all my life, I have had a passion for knowledgeto learn as much as I can. As a tutor, I want to inspire that passion in other children.I attended a competitive private high school, so I am no stranger to people getting tutors in order to succeed. An ambition to accomplish any academic goal was encouraged all my life; thus, I am accustomed to studying hard on top of participating in countless extra-curricular activities. I graduated highs school and received a diploma from the extremely rigorous International Baccalaureate (IB) program, and began attending an Ivy League college, the University of Pennsylvania, in 2016. With all this said, I am confident that I will be able to teach clients effective ways to solve any problems they have.As a freshman at the University of Pennsylvania, I am looking to major in communications. My primary interests are in journalism and the entertainment industry. I love writing, and I write for my schools arts and culture magazine. Additionally, I love to watch movies, travel, eat, and talk about pop culture. If theres one thing to take away from this statement, its that I am the most dedicated and hardworking person I know. I always make sure to be prepared and friendly for any job I have to do, and I intend to do the same here at Varsity Tutors. I look forward to working with anyone and everyone who wants to learn and improve as much as I do.

Igniting a desire to learn in my students drives my passion for working with them. I have supported Kindergarten through college-level students in their pursuit of academic success. I have taught and tutored students in all subject areas and ability levels; working with both neurotypical and neurodivergent students. I have worked extensively with students in math and language arts. I am a proud alumni of the University of Pennsylvania (MS in Education/concentration: Special Education and Urban Education), and Kent State University (BS in Education). I especially love working with students in math and language arts (high school English) because these two subjects are the bedrock of all other learning. Once a student gains knowledge and confidence in language arts and math, they master the material in their other subjects quicker.Because I know that all students learn differently, I work with students to determine their learning style and teach them from an asset base approach. In other words, I start with what they do well and build upon that until they reach the objective they need to grasp. When not teaching or tutoring students, I am an avid sports fan. I enjoy embarking on adventures with my daughters; exploring new sites, experiences, and restaurants.

Teaching students to get them excited about science and research is one of themost appealing and impactful aspects of being an academic. I have experienced education as a student, teaching assistant, and lecturer in multiple universities and countries. Inspired by my teachers and working first-hand with some of them as a teaching assistant, I have discovered the following principles that guide my approach to teaching.First, an instructor should always think from the student's perspective to devise the best way toexplain a seemingly-complicated concept, e.g., by reducing it to its subproblems, and by clearly illustrating the connections to previously taught concepts. Peeling away the apparent complexity to reveal the core concept will help the student to successfully retain, recollect, reapply, and expand upon the idea, which is in fact the true purpose of learning. Second, collecting and incorporating feedback is critical. Engaging students early on and periodically via surveys and quizzes helps gauge their progress and understanding of the material. Office hours are a useful opportunity to individually workwith students from unique and diverse backgrounds.

Hi! Welcome to my page! My name is Sean Gawronski, I'm from Cincinnati Ohio, and am actively studying linguistics and computer science at the University of Pennsylvania. Beyond school, I am actively training for and exploring careers in artificial intelligence with a particular focus in machine translation and speech recognition systems. In my free time, I'm a huge sports buff, foodie, and a yogurt connoisseur! In the past, I founded and headed a student tutoring program that spanned across high school STEM, English and foreign-language subjects. With Varsity, I am continuing teaching those high school level concepts, as well as carrying my personal experience with standardized tests like the ACT, SAT, and Advanced Placement exams. Beyond course material, I also work with students with applying to college. The internet is a place full of information and tips regarding applications, essays, and long-term prep: some is helpful, but much of it isn't. As someone who has freshly gone through the admissions process, I am passionate about using my experience to help students pursue their dream schools and scholarships. In regards to my teaching style: I make an active effort to integrate my experiences as a tutor alongside those as a student and a mentor into my teachings. Whether searching for a tutor for yourself, your child, or your student, I know how difficult it can be to find someone you can trust is knowledgable and an effective teacher. Thats why I focus not only on helping students improve their proficiency level, but also prioritize fostering a relationship with the material that helps them feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and builds confidence in their ability to learn. In sessions with me, you can expect to focus on mastering the conceptual understanding of material before moving to progressive applications of the concept. Of course, there's so much that goes into learning beyond rigid structures and practice problems. Every student is unique and learns differently, so as we spend sessions together, I tailor study sessions to best assist your progress: keeping what's working, and mixing up what isn't. Whether your goals are improving test scores, working through classroom material, or building successful college applications, I have no doubts our sessions can help move you in the right direction. I look forward to meeting you and our first session together!
