I have always had a deep and lifelong love of learning that I wish to impart to other students. My goal is to help students achieve their learning needs by utilizing a passionate, creative, and fun teaching approach. My personal motto is to never, never, never give up!

I bring over five years documented tutoring experience in math and the physical sciences. I've tutored for the University of Maryland and Georgetown Tutoring, LLC and have been a teaching assistant at both the University of Maryland and the University of Chicago. I look forward to working with you!
I am an experienced NYC and Chicago Public Schools Social Studies teacher. I am also currently teaching math. I earned my Bachelor's degree in Social Studies Education and History from Syracuse University summa cum laude and completed my Master's in Social Sciences at the University of Chicago. I hold Illinois and New York State teaching licenses in Social Science (Grades 5-12), with endorsements in History, Economics, Political Science, Psychology, Geography, Sociology, and Anthropology. During my time at the University of Chicago, I worked as a tutor in the Office of Special Programs for High School Students, where I supported students in AP English preparation, essay writing, and social studies coursework. This experience strengthened my ability to help students develop critical thinking, analytical writing, and effective study skills. I am passionate about helping students build confidence and reach their academic goals through personalized, one-on-one support. In my tutoring sessions, I focus on identifying each student's individual strengths and areas for growth in order to create targeted strategies that improve understanding, organization, and study habits. I work closely with students to strengthen reading comprehension, writing, critical thinking, and test-taking skills while making learning engaging and approachable. My experience working with diverse learners allows me to adapt lessons to different learning styles, academic needs, and language backgrounds so that every student feels supported and capable of success.
I am an undergrad at the University of Chicago, having graduated high school at Jesuit Dallas. I am currently pursuing a major in Computer Science and a minor in Math. I am interested in teaching as a possible profession, so I am planning to attend graduate school in a few years and planning to get a TA job in upcoming quarters. I tutor Computer Science, Math, and Physics, for Middle and High School students, and maybe college students in intro classes. I am most passionate about teaching programming because I find it to be a very useful and engaging skill; a lot of my friends at UChicago come to me when they have trouble working with Python or R, so I also have the most teaching experience with this field as well.I believe everyone learns differently, and I aim to be flexible to meet the different learning styles of my students. My general approach, however, emphasizes discovery and the learning process, rather than the rote memorization of rules and facts (this is why I prefer teaching Math, Computer Science, and Physics instead of fact-based domains like History and Chemistry). In my free time, I learn more about programming, which I apply in the context of programming competitions and game design. I also love playing board games with friends and family.
I have a Masters in Economics and a Masters in Statistics, both from Northern Illinois University. I love learning, and I love teaching, which also gives me chances to learn, whether about others, or about how to better understand and present knowledge to others.
I'm a sophomore at the University of Chicago. I'm a student-athlete with a great background in math, computer science, and standardized tests. I'm the oldest of 6 kids and have always helped my younger siblings with these subjects. I look forward to potentially tutoring you.
My focus is on giving students the fundamental skills they need to succeed rather than focusing on test-specific tricks.I am a graduate of the University of Chicago, where I received an MA in the humanities with a focus on on disability studies. For my undergraduate education, I attended Claremont Mckenna College where I focused on English Literature.I have worked as a tutor and academic coach for the past five years. I have a passion for helping students learn how to self-assess and structure their own work so that they can develop holistic, sustainable ways of learning. While I tutor a range of subjects, I most enjoy teaching English, Literature, Writing, and History. In my off time, I practice capoeira, an Afro-Brazilian martial art, and enjoy playing chess.
Hi, all! I'm Charlie. I'm really proud of the rigorous, student-centered pedagogical approach that I've developed, and I'd love to show it to you!Cumulative collegiate GPA: 3.87Academic Honors: Dean's List (2012-2016), Phi Beta KappaTest scores: LSAT - 174, ACT - 35

I am a child of immigrants and have spent my life tutoring my siblings and younger students, and I loved working with them! See y'all in class!
I'm a freshman at the University of Chicago studying Fundamentals and Political Science with a 3.9 GPA. I earned a 36 on ACT Reading and a 35 on ACT English, and I specialize in reading comprehension, writing, grammar, and humanities subjects. I began tutoring in high school and founded an after-school tutoring program to support younger students academically. Through that experience, I learned how to break down complex material, adapt to different learning styles, and help students build confidence alongside skills. As a tutor, I focus on teaching students how to thinkhow to read closely, organize ideas clearly, and approach challenging material with confidence. My goal is to make learning feel accessible and empowering, not intimidating.
Hello! My name is Sara, and I am a passionate and positive person who loves helping others learn and grow. With a background in sociology, psychology, and public policy, I bring a unique perspective to my tutoring sessions. I have extensive experience working with diverse groups and have an understanding of different learning styles and needs. As a multilingual individual, I can offer tutoring in multiple languages, making it easier for students to grasp concepts in their native language. My goal is to create a supportive and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and exploring new ideas. Whether you're looking to improve your grades, prepare for exams, or develop new skills, I'm here to help you succeed. Let's work together to achieve your academic goals with confidence and positivity!
One of my strengths, and one of the reasons that I am good at test taking, is my ability to organize information. It's a skill I use both in my academic life, as well as professionally; as a stage manager, it is often my job to take in complicated and conflicting pieces of information (the blocking, a quick change in costumes, changes in a script) and quickly organize that information so that I can convey it to someone else. I enjoy and excel at condensing and re-communicating facts or tasks, so that they become comprehensible to someone who may not understand them the first time around. It is not just my success at standardized tests or in my classes that will make me a great tutor, but also this skill and enthusiasm about learning. I understand that sometimes, the way you package and organize information is the most important part of teaching it to someone else, and that understanding someone's method of processing this information is the easiest way to get it to stick. Like I do backstage, I am excited about solving the puzzle of how someone learns best, and inspired by the idea of recognizing the specificities of each individual and treating each student with understanding and empathy.
I am a current student at the University of Chicago. I am working towards a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences, and I am on the pre-medical track. I am extremely passionate about tutoring, and I have several years of experience tutoring students in my high school's learning center in various subjects as well as tutoring private clients in Standardized Test preparation. Given that I graduated high school recently, I have taken several Standardized Tests and high school subjects myself, so I have a comprehensive understanding of not only how to tutor these subjects and exams, but also what it is like to take them. While I have a wide range of interests and am able to tutor various subjects, I am most passionate about tutoring in Standardized Test preparation (including ACT, SAT, SAT Subject Tests, and AP Exams), Biology, Chemistry, Math, and Spanish. I truly believe that students should have the opportunity to learn in the way that works best for them, and I love being able to help them succeed by creating a comfortable tutoring environment in which we can best assess their particular needs and use strategies specific to them. My passion for learning drives everything that I do, and tutoring is the platform that I use to try to spread that passion to others. In my free time, you can find me playing badminton, listening to music, or baking something (hopefully) delicious.
I'm passionate about learning. I was fortunate to have great teachers at the University of Chicago in my graduate education, and at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in my undergraduate education.I try to relate whatever subject I am tutoring to the real world. Learning is a lot easier and fun if students see the relevance to their lives. I am a very patient person, and I believe that making mistakes is often when the most learning occurs. Specific to ACT tutoring, I use a variety of books, including The Complete Guide to ACT Reading and the Ultimate Guide to the Math ACT.Outside of tutoring, I am the director of counseling services at an agency that serves the homeless, where I spend most of my time training and teaching staff and clients. I believe service to others is one of the highest callings, and want to pay my success forward. For fun, I like to read, play soccer, chill out with a good movie or Netflix, and spend time with my son.
I received my Masters degree in Humanities with a focus in Cinema and Media Studies from the University of Chicago. Before earning my Masters degree, I attended the University of Louisville, where I received my Bachelors of Art in Humanities with a minor in Film Studies. During my time at the University of Louisville, I pursued a variety of different majors, in French, Philosophy, Math and Physics due to the diverse range of my passions, and finally settled on the Humanities because it allowed me to study all of them at once. I am most passionate about teaching anything within the Arts (e.g. Literature), French language and culture, and the purer side of Mathematics, where the abstractions of numbers give us the freedom to do with them what we will. I also love helping students work their way through the daunting task of preparing for standardized tests. I have often found that my past students have gotten tangled in the problems that have been set out for them, and I have always found success in teaching the conceptual framework behind these problems, so that they learn to find solutions by whatever means they prefer. As indicated by my degrees at the beginning, I am incredibly passionate about film and film studies I am a huge movie buff. But perhaps the most important thing I can say about myself is that I don't believe that any subject is out of reach for any student. It's just about finding a way through the jargon to something that makes sense.
I am a graduate student working in the humanities. I can tutor a wide variety of subjects in the humanities and social sciences from the middle school to the graduate school level. I am fluent in several languages. I worked as a T.A. for a writing class at a university and have experience editing undergraduate writing. I understand the perspective of college professors and T.A.'s and can help students achieve the level of writing and analysis that professors expect from them on papers and exams. The students with whom I have worked in the past have improved their academic performance. I am adaptable and am willing to work with students to the extent possible as a tutor to help them achieve academic success.
Highly accomplished financial professional with over 15 years of diverse experience in investment analysis, strategic finance, and consulting. Chicago Booth MBA (Finance) and CFA Charterholder (2013).
My teaching specialties include Biology, Psychology, the Life Sciences, Reading, Writing, and preparation for verbal and writing test sections. I studied Biology at Cornell University, graduating with Honors in 2009, and earned a Master's in Psychology from the University of Chicago in 2010. I currently tutor students ranging from elementary to high school in critical reading and analytical writing, both as part of SAT prep and in the context of English and Social Studies classwork. I have a long history of teaching, starting with tutoring students in the introductory biology lecture at Cornell after I earned an A+ in the class. My passion for science education led me to volunteer with Roots and Shoots, an environmental education organization, to teach hands-on workshops for young children at the local science center about topics such as flower anatomy, animal tracks, and the popular 'egg drop'. I was also a peer counselor and trained incoming counselors, which involved teaching in front of large groups and leading small-group exercises. For my Master's thesis research, I became a research assistant at the Lincoln Park Zoo, studying the behavior of chimpanzees and gorillas. I frequently interacted with zoo guests as I collected my data and enjoyed teaching them about ape behavior, care, and conservation. Most recently, I took on students in my hometown of West Windsor, NJ as I prepared my Master's thesis for publication in a scientific journal.Motivating the next generation to be enthusiastic scholars and engaged citizens is one of my primary goals. I am particularly adept at communicating complex ideas, and I am eager to share this skill with younger students. In college I took several writing-intensive classes in my biology major, and I further honed my writing skill in my undergraduate Honor's thesis and my Master's thesis, which has been published. I scored very highly in the verbal and writing sections on the SAT and GRE, and I am well-placed to help your student improve his or her score as well as better comprehend and communicate his or her own ideas.
Hello,Having gone through some tough schools and classes (and even ones where I didn't have the attention and interest that may have helped), I know that that reality is that you will not understand every subject quickly.Did Einstein understand relativity in an hour, or did he have to work years to get it?I was an assistant to a Nobel Prize winner when younger. You know I did not get everything right away. But he was a great teacher and empathetic person and it worked! So I know that anyone can learn almost anything even if they think the subject is hard, or the others are "too smart".Our school system is not always perfect about motivating learners on all subjects. Nor does it deal with pressures and expectations from other classmates, people and what society expects of you. SO WHAT! I truly love to see the smile when someone says, "I get it".As a public school JHS and HS teacher, my license is in Biology 7-12 and have taught other sciences. I also have advance degrees in other areas and have taught it on a college level.I have a BA in Economics from Queens College (but had more courses in science), an MA in Economics from Northwestern University, and MBA in Marketing and Finance from the University of Chicago, and an MA in Teaching from Relay Graduate School of Education.I do not have a "favorite" subject to tutor. A lot of learning is seeing the value in the subject, and the beauty of utterly understanding it.My teaching philosophy(s) are many but boil down to a few things: 1 What does the student need to understand? 2 What does the student understand at this time? 3 How does the student learn (visually, via reading, examples, etc.) and 4 Teaching to reach the student's goal for what they need to learn. And 5 make sure the student understands before proceeding. (Another way of saying - to not waste time and finding the source of the misunderstanding.I look forward to doing learning with you that you feel good about and results in you "getting" what you want to know.Thank you for reading this.
I am a student at the University of Chicago, and am majoring in Anthropology and Linguistics. I graduated from Whitney Young High School and tutored students there in French. I am currently learning Armenian, my fourth language, and I love tutoring foreign languages because I love helping students discover the ins and outs of a new language and culture. I also have experience tutoring elementary school students in reading, writing, and math through 826CHI's After School Tutoring and Writing Project. I am also a writer and editor, and writing is one of my favorite subjects to tutor because I love helping students master the craft themselves and seeing their writing improve. I believe in working very interactively with students in order to help them discover ways to solve new problems on their own and improve their methods for and interest in learning.
I am a graduate of the University of Chicago, where I received my Bachelor of Arts in Human Geography. Since graduation, I have pursued a Master of Arts degree in Geography at the University of British Columbia, where I served as a teaching assistant for several college courses. After leaving beautiful British Columbia, I moved to Sofia, Bulgaria where I undertook independent research as a Fulbright grantee. When I completed the Fulbright fellowship, I stayed in Bulgaria for the summer, teaching Computer Science at a summer camp for high school students. While my formal studies have focused on geography and the other social sciences, I am passionate about a broad range of subjects including history, math, philosophy, and literature. When tutoring math in preparation for the SAT, I love witnessing the gestalt moment when students realize the solution to a problem. In my spare time, I enjoy reading literature and criticism, swimming and sailing, camping and hiking, and, when I can, travel.
I hold a Master of Arts in Social Science from the University of Chicago and a Bachelor's in Political Science from Grambling State University. Alongside my academic background, I've worked in education as both a program coordinator and a tutor, supporting students from middle school through college. Through my work as a GEAR UP tutor, I supported middle and high school students by helping them strengthen their reading, writing, and study skills while also building confidence in their academic abilities.
Hi! I'm Dylan and I'm a rising junior at the University of Chicago. I'm planning on double majoring in Statistics and Economics with a specialization in Business. I have tutored since my freshman year of high school and have lots of experience helping others with schoolwork. Don't hesitate to reach out, I love helping others to reach their goals, especially in the classroom!
I can think of no better honor than to assist future leaders with figuring out how to make their dreams come true. It is also a great responsibility to assure that what informs our dreams adheres to high standards and we refuse to compromise them.
I first discovered tutoring in high school when I worked as a peer mentor for freshmen, helping them with geometry and physics while developing studying and test-taking techniques to help them gain confidence and comfort with learning the material. This position was tutoring + mentoring, and I have carried that mentality and teaching philosophy into all my classroom and tutoring work since. In my 4 years of tutoring, I have gained deeper understanding of the diverse and intricate ways in which people learn. I have also developed my own abilities to inspire enthusiasm, build confidence, and help students grow as independent thinkers.Outside of tutoring, I am a student at the University of Chicago majoring in mathematics & comparative human development. I sing in an acapella group, play violin, and on weekends I love to go for bike rides or long runs, see local theater and music performances, and explore the city of Chicago. Through my studies and bike rides and runs, I enjoy working hard and building personalized, step-by-step plans for pursuing the goals I set. Nonetheless, I also believe in the importance of having fun and finding enjoyment in my day-to-day life, which I do through music and geographic exploration. I believe that this enthusiasm, curiosity, and steady work ethic are the keys to achieving goals once thought impossible, and I hope to inspire such a mindset in the people with whom I work.
From my experience teaching math to a range of students, from middle school through college, I know that it does not come easily to everyone. However, I firmly believe that everyone has the capability for mathematical reasoning. Everyone has their own strengths and challenges, and my job as a tutor begins with identifying these. I like to have students work through problems while I guide them and make suggestions, so that I can get a sense of what they understand and what they don't. Then we can build on their knowledge and break down the challenging parts of the problem into smaller, more manageable chunks. I hold a bachelor's degree from UChicago and a doctorate from MIT, both in mathematics. I am available to tutor Latin, physics, and all levels of math. Outside of academics, I am an avid tournament chess player, and I enjoy running and cycling.
I am a graduate of Grand Valley State University, where I received my Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Education with a minor in Psychology. I'm currently finishing my masters at The University of Chicago in Analytics. Between undergrad and graduate school, I spent 4 years teaching math in the Englewood neighborhood of Chicago. I still keep up with my former students, and am always a zoom call away if they ever need my help. I've taught Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Algebra II and Pre-Calc in the classroom setting, and have experience tutoring a range of subjects including Calculus and Statistics at the college level. I have extensive experience with ACT and SAT prep, as I ran ACT and SAT Bootcamps at the high school I taught at. I am passionate about teaching and understand that students have a variety of learning styles. I'm an energetic math teacher who loves to help students increase their motivation. As part of tutoring, I like to help students strengthen their problem solving skills, and help them know what to do when they feel stuck.
I have been tutoring since I was an undergraduate. I tutor math, Japanese, reading and writing, and SAT prep. I am interested in helping you achieve your goals and see results. I can be strict but I am also gentle and encouraging. My hobbies and interests include karate, drawing, reading, and playing the piano.
Knowledge is powerful tool that can change your life and the lives of others. As a tutor my goal is to teach my students how to wield knowledge through embracing their mistakes and teaching them how to learn. I expect my students to approach sessions with an open mind and a willingness to learn. In return, I hope to create an open, positive, and personalized learning space for them and provide them the educational and moral support required to succeed.

I'm a University of Chicago student studying Data Science, Statistics, and Mathematics. I scored an 800 on SAT Math and 5s on AP Calculus AB, BC, and AP Statistics. I tutor all levels of math from pre-algebra through calculus and SAT math prep, and love helping students build real understanding rather than just memorizing steps!
Hi, I'm the philosopher they call Andrew! You are most very definitely welcome to come to me with any school questions, but be warned: there's a good chance we'll soon be figuring out the meaning of life...

Hi, my name is Sydney! I'm excited to help others succeed in economics. After majoring in Econ in college and taking multiple graduate-level courses, I've learned how to make complex concepts feel more tangible and real rather than abstract or inaccessible. I enjoy approaching topics from multiple perspectives to find what clicks, and I tailor my explanations to different learning styles. Topics include elasticity, revenue and profit maximization, calculating surplus, menu pricing, game theory, and more!
