From a young age, I always know that I wanted to be a teacher. I also constantly had my nose buried in a book, so becoming an English teacher was the next logical step. I graduated from Central Connecticut State University in 2012 and taught for the next two years, 2012-2014. I thoroughly enjoyed my classes, but always felt that I would be better suited to working one on one with my students to individualize their educations and enable me to have meaningful discussions about the literature I so loved, something that I strove to incorporate into my classroom teaching. Since I left teaching in 2014, it has felt that something has been missing, and I can't wait to begin tutoring students to truly be able to work with them one on one and see them grow and learn.

To help nurture the next generation of young minds by implementing lesson plans that tailor to each individual need by encouraging them to always try their best and by instructing the way that works best for the student. I strongly value Gardner's Multiple Intelligence model for effective teaching.Creativity, intrinsic motivation & critical thinking skills are three pillars fundamental to improving study skills and active learning.

Hello Students and Parents! I am a teacher at an elementary school, as well as a tutor. I earned a Bachelors in Science in Elementary Education. I am certified to teach kindergarten through sixth grade. I have my Masters in Teaching and Learning in Technology. I believe all students can learn. A tutor’s job is to use the student’s strengths as a leaner, and their learning style to teach them successful strategies to master skills and concepts. I graduated from the University of Northern Colorado and earned a B.A. Special Education Teacher k-12. I also earned an M.A. for teaching grades k-12. I worked a full time teaching position for the Hartford public Schools. My classroom was self-contained that was composed of ASD,PDD students, and many had severe behavioral issues. The students in my class were deemed "un-teachable" With the exception of one child all of my kids graduated in the mainstream! I am a very strong reading and math teacher at the elementary and middle school level. I use a multi-kinesthetic approach which enhances memory; while additionally we are having a lot of fun learning. I know my core curriculum and special needs is definitely a strength for me. I teach with a passion, and the kids always love me. I am also dependable, honest, and punctual. I have been able to reach several children, where others have failed.

As an educator, I have worked hard to ensure my government classes (both civics and AP American Gov't) can be accessible to all students. For the majority of my teaching career I have worked with multilingual/English language learners and this has become a passion I didn't expect, but has really become a very rewarding part of my career. When I am not working with students I love to travel; the highlight of my travels was winning a fellowship for 1 teacher to travel through China alone for a month (which included a week in Tibet). I have been a classroom instructor of the Earth and Physical sciences since 1995. I really love science, especially astronomy. I loved learning about the universe since I was in elementary school. My love for science grew as I went through school. Having enthusiastic and caring teachers helped a lot. I understand the difficulties students face with science and math. The subjects can be quite intimidating. Well, put that all behind you. I will make sure that you are at ease with the subjects. I am happy to help you understand astronomy, intro. chemistry, intro physics, meteorology, geology, and pre-algebra. I'm not your typical instructor. My students looked upon me as a caring and nerdy guy. If you want help, then I hope to hear from you. Until then!
My first tutoring experience was in the 7th grade. I had a wonderful math teacher who allowed students, once they had finished their practice sets, to help others. I learned then that I had a knack for helping others understand math concepts. I did some tutoring in college and after graduation worked for several tutoring organizations before becoming an actual classroom teacher with Teach For America. Being in the classroom had its challenges and I realized I am more suited to one-on-one interaction with students where I can cater the teaching style to a student's specific needs. Since being a classroom teacher, I have volunteered with GED students with Urbana Adult Education in Urbana, Illinois. Currently, I am back in school and working full-time. I am also a professional musician. Thanks for visiting my profile!
After graduating from high school, I proudly served four years in the military, an experience that shaped my discipline, work ethic, and commitment to helping others succeed. Following my service, I attended Central Connecticut State University, where I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with a minor in Criminal Justice. I then went on to earn my Juris Doctor and became a licensed attorney after passing the bar exam. Along the way, I discovered a passion for teaching and mentorship. I've worked as both a substitute teacher and a mathematics tutor, gaining valuable experience supporting students at different levels. I tutor a wide range of subjects, but I'm especially passionate about ASVAB preparation, bar exam preparation, English, literature, history, civics, and math. When working with students, I focus on making lessons engaging and relatable. I strongly believe it can open doors and improve opportunities, and I strive to share that perspective with every student I work with.
I believe that every student is capable of succeeding and am willing to create individualized learning plans to help the student achieve their goals. My sense of humor and easygoing attitude makes learning enjoyable and rewarding.

I am an honors program scholar graduate of Central Connecticut State University. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and graduated from the University's School of Education. Throughout my time in school and since I graduated, I have tutored countless students of all ages in math in groups and individually. I have also worked in math classrooms alongside teachers assisting the students. I have also worked with students who needed help with their SAT prep. I have experience working with students who are younger and also students who are in college and I greatly enjoy working with any topics within mathematics. My favorite math topics to tutor are pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus, but I like to work with all other topics as well. I choose to tutor because I would like to make a difference in the lives of the students I work with and help them, just as others have helped me throughout my school career. Outside of tutoring, I coach soccer and have done so for many years, I like to listen to music, and I enjoy cooking.
I first began tutoring when I was in 5th grade. I was outside of my home playing with the locals, when a parent came up to me and said, "You look smart enough, come help my son in math." I was a little shy and nervous at the time, plus the fact that her son was 3 years older than me, I wasn't sure what to expect. The first day of tutoring I looked at his homework and said to him this looks pretty easy. After a few more sessions he told me he wanted to show me something, he pulled out a quiz he took and pointed at his %100. He told me it was the first %100 ever; I took out a $20 bill and told him this is my first $20 ever (his mother paid me for tutoring him that day). Since then I have been tutoring in various capacities, from high school students to siblings. My goal is to ensure that everyone I interact with are one step closer to being successful.
I believe in a flexible manner of instruction, responsive to the unique needs of a given student. While conducting a lesson or leading practice, I quickly become aware of students academic needs. Every student, regardless of background, can improve his or her ability to listen to and understand vocabulary and sentences in a second language. In lectures, discussions, and assignments, I show that learning a second language responds to various modes of inquiry: analytic, hermeneutic, cultural, and historical; thus, students are led to explore the possibilities of each perspective, and to push beyond their own experience to expand their communication skills. In the end, I have enriched a students ability to listen to, think about, discuss, and communicate in a second language with a new awareness of its aesthetic and humanistic significance.

As an online tutor, I provided instruction and assessment for elementary school students with a variety of abilities. I was responsible for planning, implementing and assessing all online activities. I earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Central Connecticut State University in Elementary Education with a specialization in Early Childhood and a minor in psychology. They possess so much excitement and curiosity. Their motivation and enthusiasm for learning is contagious!
I come from a family of teachers, as my mother was an elementary school music teacher for 35 years and her sister was a preschool teacher. I did very well in school, including college and graduate school, I wanted to help others learn how to study effectively and remember information. I have developed a desire to help people achieve their educational goals and succeed in an academic setting. I first began substitute teaching in the 1990s and felt like I was really making an impact on students' motivation to learn. I completed my student teaching in Spanish in 2003 at East Hartford High School (Connecticut). Soon thereafter, I began working for a private company as a tutor for students with special needs, as well as those with English as their second language (in reading, writing, and math). At this point, I also took on a few private tutoring jobs, with someone of Japanese descent, as well as a couple students who were of Mexican descent. I worked at an autism spectrum school for about four years as a direct care staff person. I taught Spanish to two adolescents while there. I also experienced growth myself, as I had not realized how important socialization is to learning. As you may or may not know, socialization is a big barrier to many students on the spectrum. Finally, I have been substitute teaching in the Albany, NY area, which renewed my interest in being an instructor/facilitator/guide to struggling students. During this time, I had also tutored an international graduate college student (from Saudi Arabia) in Educational Psychology in preparation for her Early Childhood degree. I felt like this experience opened my eyes even more about cultural differences, and was a challenge that I was prepared to meet.

Before accepting the full-time teaching position in New Canaan, I fulfilled three long-term substitute positions; one at Sedgwick Middle School in West Hartford, one at Conard High School in West Hartford, and one at RHAM High School in Hebron. All of these positions have given me opportunities to teach students including those with learning disabilities and behavioral challenges as well as struggling readers and writers. Regardless of students' attitudes towards reading and writing when they enter my classroom, I am determined that they will leave my classroom more skilled and more committed to their own literacy. I differentiate instruction to ensure each student emerges as an individual. My aptitude for considering each student's abilities while I plan enables me to cultivate a positive learning environment in which every student is provided with the necessary resources he or she needs to succeed. As a recent graduate from Central Connecticut State University's Master of Arts in Teaching program, my diverse experiences in the classroom, and my aptitude to connect to teenagers, I am confident in my ability to promote the best learning and social strategies to help students strive both inside and outside of the classroom. My mentoring and tutoring experiences began while I was still in high school; my experience as a mentor in the Nutmeg Big Brother Big Sister program catalyzed my interest in becoming an educator. I enjoy tutoring and working with people to solve problems because it is an excellent way to better both people's lives and my own. We both learn from the experience.Working on STEM problems is the favorite part of my day. I am excited about the opportunity to help someone improve upon or master a skill. I am passionate and very interested in human psychology and am about to obtain a Master's Degree in the field. I also love to travel, meet new people, and learn new things. I spend 2015 abroad, traveling 10 countries in 10 months in South and Central America and loved the experience of meeting new people and learning new cultures. My field of study and my traveling have taught me that it's possible to master anything with the right approach, be it a new skill or new knowledge. I think that every individual has their own approach to learning and improving and the key is to find the right approach for each individual. I have worked with multiple individuals for over the past 10 years and helped edit their essays and improve their writing style, gently guiding them to a better approach in writing and phrasing. I am also looking forward to helping someone in the field of psychology, something that I am passionate about. I'm Asami. I am a second year graduate student at Central Connecticut State University in TESOL program. I graduated from Tokyo University of Foreign Studies in Japan in 2015 with a BA in Polish studies. Learning English and Polish made me realize how fun it is to be able to communicate with people from other countries. I have more than 4 years teaching/tutoring experience of English (to Japanese students), and 2 years tutoring experience of Japanese. As a native speaker of Japanese who was born and raised in Japan, I can teach both the language and the culture.Through my learning experience as a TESOL student, I learned a lot about teaching English. Since I learned English as my second language, I know what is difficult to non-native speakers of English well.I chose my undergrad major (Polish studies) because I love Chopin. I've been playing the piano since I was 4 years old, and received several awards at competitions including Silver Award for elementary school grade 3 at the 4th International Chopin Piano Competition in ASIA.I always respond within one day. Feel free to contact me anytime for any questions!
I have a wild passion for education and it's my desire to share that with growing students. I have had the privilege to study with some brilliant individuals at Quinnipiac University, where I majored in Health Science studies and dabbled in some laboratory investigation. Since then, I have transferred into Central Connecticut State University to pursue psychology and biology. I have some experience in assisting students in grasping new concepts while sitting in on some general chemistry classes in high school, and it's wonderful to spread a comprehension and a love for subjects that are traditionally perceived as difficult.I also enjoy horseback riding, which I have participated in for 11 years, as well as choral and orchestral music. I believe that all students can have an understanding for even the most difficult topics, as long as it is displayed in a way that appeals to their interests and learning styles.
