My passion for helping students comes from my experience raising three boys, two of whom became lawyers. I enjoyed assisting them with their schoolwork and after that I found a passion for teaching individuals the intricacies of building their investment portfolios with investment properties. What to look for, how to finance and most importantly how to avoid pitfalls. I have given over 300 seminars on financing investment properties and all that goes with owning them. From small groups of 6-30 up to once presenting before 2,500 people. I have also taught many staff how to pass the FINRA Series 7 exam. I went to college at the Franklin College in Lugano, Switzerland and the Colorado College where i achieved a BA. I tutor general finance, real estate finance, mastering the Series 7 and law and accounting for public companies. Quite frankly I enjoy them all equally as they have been in my wheelhouse since I was 21 years old. My teaching style is by example, utilizing real world examples that I have had personally and those of my clients over the years. Outside of academia, I love business, I am a deal junkie. I love looking at and analyzing deals of all types. I also love my dogs and my life in the desert.

As a student at Colorado College, majoring in Chemistry and minoring in Math, I'm all about the magic of molecules and the thrill of solving math puzzles. My passion for helping students comes from that "lightbulb moment" when everything clicks and they realize learning can be both fun and rewarding. I've worn many hats when it comes to tutoring. In high school, I was a mentor to middle schoolers, sharing wisdom and snacks. I organized "Cookies and Chem" study sessions, blending complex chemistry concepts with a side of sugar. I've also taught swim lessons, which, let's be honest, is just like tutoring but with more splashing. My favorite subjects to tutor are Chemistry and Math. Chemistry is like a grand detective story about the universe, while Math is the ultimate brain workoutno gym required! Helping students navigate these subjects and seeing their progress is incredibly fulfilling. My teaching philosophy is simple: make learning engaging and fun. I believe in breaking down tough topics into bite-sized pieces and using real-world examples (and maybe a joke or two) to keep things interesting. My style is patient and interactiveI encourage questions, curiosity, and a good laugh along the way. When I'm not buried in books, I'm out running, skiing, or hiking, embracing the great outdoors of Colorado. These adventures keep me balanced and bring a touch of excitement to everything I do, including tutoring. I'm here to help students conquer their academic challenges and maybe even have a little fun doing it. Whether it's demystifying Chemistry, tackling Math problems, or diving into literature, I'm ready to guide them every step of the way.
I graduated from Colorado College (top 25 LAC) in May of 2020 with a degree in Political Economy and a minor in Math, after attending on a full scholarship. I will be starting an MS in Data Science at Georgetown in the Fall. I've recently served as a high school fellowship coordinator on major political campaigns and before that served as a volunteer coordinator. I am very passionate about teaching math as it is something I struggled with before achieving a high level of mastery. But I am also quite capable at instructing in English, Government, Economics, and general writing. I would say I am the type of tutor who works through challenges with students instead of for them.
I love math, I love explaining how it works, and I love helping people. That's why teaching comes easily to me.I am patient and easygoing; if my student does not understand something, I'll take that as a welcome opportunity to improve my own teaching. When we finish a session, I will have taken note of concepts in need of reenforcement, recurring mistakes, and general tips to make your problem solving a whole lot easier. After years of tutoring and a year teaching high school, I know all the common math mistakes student make. We can fix those, so farther down the line they won't come back to haunt you on the SAT.
Over the years, the biggest problem I faced like many of my own private clients have, is that sometimes students don't know what the instructor is expecting from them. This can occur in any classroom and at any level. Students may be referring to unknown expectations of a teacher or a professor about a particular quiz, exam, midterm, essay or even the primary goal of the academic year. My job is to guide each student towards identifying and achieving what the instructor is looking for, and ultimately comprehending those difficult demands. I try to bridge the gap between the student and teacher. My primary goal is to lead to clarity - not further any confusion, difficulty, or frustration. Learning a language is hard enough. I simply guide the student by showing him or her new techniques to study and methods to learn about the Spanish language. This is turn gives the student the ability to achieve his or her individual goals. Moreover, the previous tension and confusion felt by the student begins to lessen with each session. As a personal tutor I hope to advance the development of a student's initial knowledge of the Spanish language into a solid foundation.
First, a little about myself. I grew up on a family farm in rural Illinois surrounded by sisters, goats, and my beloved books. On a whim, I moved to Colorado for college and have continued to pursue my passion for literature in classes, libraries, and, most recently, non-profits.As a tutor, I aim to provide support and knowledge which enables students to apply to their dream colleges and reach beyond other's expectations. As a graduate of small, under-resourced public school, I wish to connect with students who need more support than their school can offer.
I have always enjoyed tutoring students one-on-one and look forward to continuing this now that I've moved to Atlanta. I prefer to tutor people in-person rather than online because it is a much more efficient use of our time and allows me to get a feel of how you solve/work through the problems. Depending on the subject matter, I will make problem sets for us to work through based on the feedback I get from you. However, I am more than willing to use the online platform provided if that is the best means for us to connect. Every person is different, so each tutoring session will be uniquely tailored to your needs. Helping people succeed is immensely rewarding for me, and I have been tutoring students ever since I was in high school. Initially, I only tutored Physics, but as I progressed through my undergraduate degree in Biochemistry, I began to tutor students in General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, as well as Calculus. I personally love Organic Chemistry, but I definitely understand those who disagree and look forward to helping you succeed and maybe even enjoy it a little!I recently completed my Master's degree in Bioengineering and am looking to pick up new students now that I have time.If you have any questions or would like to know more about how I tutor, please feel free to call or email me. I look forward to meeting you!
I am a recent graduate of Colorado College living in Boulder. I have tutoring experience from both high school and college and I am excited to continue tutoring. I believe collaboration is always the best way to learn and I try to embrace a socratic style of tutoring with everyone I work with.
After graduating from Colorado College in 2014 with a degree in Molecular Biology, I have been in the process of applying to medical school with the hopes of starting in fall 2015. My experiences in tutoring have primarily been teaching classmates and teammates in subjects I had taken previously. These topics have ranged from algebra, to English literature, to cell biology. However, I have decided to focus my tutoring attention solely towards PSAT/SAT/ACT prep. Getting into your dream school is a tough task. Helping students achieve their goals is the reason I have gotten into tutoring and I firmly believe I have the ability to make a difference.I have always been a laid back, patient person and my time working at a medical clinic has helped me develop the capacity to effectively communicate complex information to others. I believe these characteristics will help me tailor lessons specifically for each student, and teach them in the way that they learn best. On top of the subject matter, I will also work towards developing test taking skills specifically designed for the college entrance exams. Having a clear cut strategy on how to take the ACT/SAT will allow students to have as much success as possible success on test day. I look forward to working with you.
I just moved back to my hometown of Tempe after a five-year hiatus, during which I attended Colorado College. This little-known school offers a strong liberal arts curriculum, which allowed me to develop my talents in everything from the upper-level sciences (General and Organic Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, and Biochemistry) to English, Math (up to Calculus 2) and Spanish. My varied course of study gave me the chance to experience a wide range of subjects, yet it was Colorado College's location on the front range of the Rocky Mountains that fed my passion for the outdoors and eventually led me to a B.A. in Biology. I would love to tutor others to help them pursue a passion for the life sciences, especially if they are considering applying to dental school. I recently scored highly on the DAT (Dental Aptitude Test), which tests the same material as the MCAT, and feel I could prepare others as well for these difficult (and stressful!) tests.During my time at Colorado College I also had the amazing opportunity to study abroad in Costa Rica, where I was able to put nine years of Spanish education to practice. If you are looking for help with Spanish grammar, comprehension, or speaking-ability I can use my own command of the language to get you to the next level.Last, but not least, Colorado College's unique course of study is what prepared me well to become a tutor. At Colorado College we took courses on the "Block Plan," during which students took one course at a time, for one month only. This meant that the same group of about 15 students went to the same class everyday, making it very easy to form small study groups after class. Essentially, I spent four years tutoring (and receiving tutoring!) from my fellow classmates as we worked through class notes and problem sets. Bringing my experiences as both the tutor and tutee from these study sessions, I will strive to create a tutoring plan to your unique form of learning and sending you on your way.
My approach to tutoring is simple. If you set high expectations your students will meet them. Over the course of eight years, I have worked with students of varying ages and academic abilities in cities across the country. With all the differences across state lines, one fact was unanimous; great education starts with collaboration and ends with incorporating feedback. I am confident my career experience and educational background have provided me with the tools to be an exemplary tutor for your child. As a New York City Teaching Fellow, I became a certified secondary school teacher and earned a Master's in Education. My passion for education was shown by ending my first year raising my school’s science achievement level by 250%, earning the highest state exam passing rate in the nine-year history of Astor Collegiate Academy, a college preparatory high school in the Bronx.Additionally, I have worked in one on one tutoring settings since I was of high school age. Beginning as a near peer tutor for gifted students, my abilities to communicate and educate have grown continuously. As an undergraduate student, I volunteered as a high school tutor, and upon graduation I worked full time as a tutor and mentor in Los Angeles through AmeriCorps, a Federal service organization.Developing individualized lesson plans and designing specialized curriculum for gifted students is a strength of mine.I am currently a graduate student on the PhD track at Columbia University studying international development as it relates to urban planning.
Different languages have varying difficulties to learn. One someone says learning a certain language is easy, it would be more accurate to say learning it is easier than many other languages. Learning a second language is not easy. However, it can most certainly be done. Speaking from experience, it is am amazing experience when you learn enough of another language to use it, to make it work for you. It takes a lot of time regardless, but it can take less time depending on how much you put in. Putting in the effort to master Spanish is one of the accomplishments I am most proud of and I would be honored to help bring about that sense of accomplishment in someone else. When it comes to mathematics, it is entirely possible that you won't ever need to know more than basic arithmetic. Nonetheless, learning more advanced math teaches you more advanced problem solving skills. The ability to use what you know to find out more is fundamental to solving almost any problem you may be faced with as well as improving your logical aptitude.I am patient, flexible and attentive. I heavily enjoy teaching both of these subjects and the more determined the student is, the more determined I become.
I'm a recent graduate of Harvard's Graduate School of Design where I received a Master of Landscape Architecture. Prior to getting my master's degree, I studied Environmental Policy and Urban Studies at Colorado College. I have a diverse, interdisciplinary academic background which has instilled not only academic curiosity but an appreciation for ways of learning and teaching. As a tutor I'm interested in helping students develop ways of learning that are true to them. During my education, I've learned how important it is to understand what works for me as a student, which isn't always exactly what is prescribed in a classroom. This challenge requires creativity and adaptability, both of which are factors that really excite me and drew me to tutoring.I have experience working as a teaching assistant at Harvard Graduate School of Design and as a elementary school tutor at Harlem Academy in New York.
I have worked at an amusement park, I have been a hairstylist, a wife, a stay at home mom, a college student, a special education teacher, and a reading specialist . . . in that order! My education continues as I learn more about reading research. I encourage my students to reach for their dreams, do their best, become independent, and love themselves as they are. I have a special interest in hidden disabilities and I do not see a person as disabled. I believe that a person is not the label; they are so much more than that and should never settle for anything less than they deserve.
As a writer and English professor, helping people tap into the power of language is my passion. I have tutored students of all levels throughout my career, from high school students hoping to improve their essay writing skills to PhD candidates working on dissertations. In my own academic journey, I studied creative writing. I love bringing the sense of fun and freedom, along with many of the techniques and practices I learned in creative writing classrooms into my work with students.
I have enjoyed working with elementary school students for over 15 years. After graduating with a Masters in Elementary Teaching I taught 4-6th grades for my first 10 years before becoming a floating teacher/tutor and working with preschool-4th grade students for five years. I enjoy making learning relevant, providing consistent encouragement and helping my students celebrate their successes. It is important to me that my students become better at managing their educational goals independently and take on a sense of ownership for their learning.
I have 8 years of experience in education, with a variety of age groups ranging from elementary to higher education. I worked with the Colorado College Writing Center for four years and I am currently working in a high school teaching Career and College Counseling and writing courses.
I have 15 years of experience as a teacher, at both the high school and college levels. I began as a French teacher and later branched out into English, ESL, history, and cultural studies. As an ESL teacher, I provided students with academic support in all subjects. I know that each student has a unique set of talents, experiences, and interests. My goal as a tutor is to help students draw on their strengths, build confidence, and develop skills. As a tutor, I have worked with a diverse range of students on essay writing, test preparation, and homework help.
I am able to tutor for GRE preparation, instruct in grammar and usage in general, and guide students towards success in essay-writing. I received a Bachelor's Degree in Science from Colorado College in 2004, a Master of Arts Degree in Poetics from The New College of California in 2008, and am currently in progress towards a Master's in Literary Studies at Georgia State University. I have served as a Professor of English at Berkeley College, in New Jersey, where I taught classes in Composition and Response to Literature. I have also served as an Education Intern with the National Park Service's Education program at Golden Gate National Recreation Area in San Francisco, where I led education programs for third-grade and sixth-grade students. I currently serve as a Substitute Teacher at The Westminster Schools in Atlanta. In my free time I enjoy writing poetry, running, hiking, and spending time with friends.I approach teaching through a student-centered philosophy--I listen to students' perspectives and help to guide them (using their starting point) toward successful strategies. I aim to make students aware of organizational processes and problem-solving strategies which they use currently, and suggest further strategies to effective writing and problem solving. A student that I tutor will gain not only an answer to the problem of the moment, but an awareness of processes and strategies which will help them to be successful in the future.
We learn best when we are smiling, relaxed, and successful, so that's how I strive to make my students feel. I want them to be comfortable making mistakes and know that is a normal part of learning. I am much more likely to say "tell me what you remember about this" than "let me explain this to you". While I enjoy teaching languages, I'm also good at organizing a lot of disparate information, paraphrasing, summarizing, and editing. As I teacher I have a lot of experience with public speaking and can help students become more confident in that area as well.
As a recent graduate and experienced tutor with a summa cum laude Bachelor's degree in Molecular Biology from Colorado College, I bring over five years of tutoring experience across a variety of subjects, including high school biology and chemistry (regular, honors, and AP), as well as physics, writing, math, and general study skills. My strong foundation in the sciences, built through extensive coursework and research in molecular biology, biochemistry, and genetics, allows me to explain complex topics with clarity and enthusiasm. Further, my long-standing passion for reading and literature has helped me develop strong writing skills, which I enjoy sharing with students. My teaching philosophy centers on patience, empathy, and personalized support. I strive to create a calm, encouraging, and collaborative environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and exploring ideas deeply together. Each lesson is tailored to the student's learning style and goals, with a focus on developing true understanding rather than rote memorization. I believe that when students feel supported and confident, they're able to reach their full potential. Ultimately, my goal as a tutor is to help students build both knowledge and confidence, empowering them to succeed academically and develop a lasting curiosity for learning.
In order to pursue my passion for learning, I chose to study philosophy during my time at Colorado College. Philosophy gave me the critical thinking skills necessary to succeed in the wide variety of courses that made up my liberal arts education. Upon graduating, I used those skills to further pursue another passion of mine, rock climbing. I worked as a climbing guide, bringing people from all walks of life into my world and out of their comfort zones. I learned how to gently push people past their fears. I learned how to use a combination of encouragement and technical knowledge to help people reach their goals. I learned how to read people and find the roots of their struggles. Through this, I could discover the best way to approach each individual and create a plan of action that worked best for their unique needs. Through all of this, I learned of my passion for teaching. I went on to start tutoring students and combined both the critical thinking skills and technical knowledge from my degree in philosophy with the teaching skills that I learned from guiding climbing. I worked with students in a variety of subjects from math, to history, to writing. In every subject, I was able to help lead my students into developing their own critical thinking skills. I also encountered some of the same fear that I saw from people 100 feet up a rock face. I used my guiding experience to help one student overcome what had become a debilitating and illogical fear of math in order for her to pass a college placement test (which she had failed many times previously) so that she could go on to pursue her own passion of fashion design. Through all of my experiences, I have continued to pursue my passion for learning, and I hope to cultivate a similar passion in each of my students.
I have a B.A. from Colorado College, where I studied English literature, Spanish literature, and theatre. I am currently pursuing my M.A. in English at Texas State University.I have tutored students of all ages in reading and writing for over ten years. I join with my students to meet their goals at their pace. We work together to develop the skills, strategies, and confidence needed to become effective readers and writers. Furthermore, I believe that good study habits, organization, and communication are the foundation of academic success; I am practiced at helping students improve in these areas. When I'm not tutoring, I write and edit professionally. I am creative, persistent, and flexible, and I have the experience and ability necessary to help you reach your academic goals. I look forward to working with you!
I have a Bachelor of Arts from Colorado College, where I studied both history and pre-dentistry. I will soon be pursuing a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree, as well. In my free time, I enjoy figure skating, crocheting, and reading. In addition to tutoring, I also teach group figure skating lessons. I firmly believe in the value of education and have always approached academics with enthusiasm, especially math. I have always enjoyed working with numbers, and I have always had a great appreciation for math. As a tutor, I believe that everybody learns in different ways, and I enjoy helping students identify their strengths, while striving to tailor my tutoring to fit each student’s needs. The subjects I tutor include math, English, writing, reading, French, and some science and history.
I am a recent graduate of Colorado College, where I received my Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy. I underwent extensive training to become a writing tutor in college, attaining international tutor certification from the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA), and going on to tutor students in a wide range of subjects. Through Colorado College, I also worked with a local high school to tutor Native American students. I am most passionate about tutoring students in philosophy, English and literature, and I am experienced in tutoring ESL students in both these subjects and others. I also enjoy working with students on their college application essays. I believe that every student has something interesting to say, and it is deeply rewarding to see a student realize this as we work together to craft a personal statement that is persuasive, concise and, most importantly, authentically their own. I am a strong believer in working collaboratively with students to foster a relaxed environment in which they can explore what interests them and by doing so develop an independent desire to learn. In my spare time, I like to read (literature and philosophy), write, snowboard (I competed in slopestyle and halfpipe in high school) and cook big meals with friends.
