I love to teach and especially like helping others gain their confidence in learning. Everyone can learn. Most need to be reminded. Working together we can achieve anything.

I am currently employed as a high school Spanish teacher for Shelby County Schools and Spanish Instructor for the Upward Bound Program sponsored by Southwest Tennessee Community College. I accepted this position due to my passion for teaching and sharing my admiration of the Spanish language with bright-minded high school scholars which are applicable to your requirements for the Assistant Resident Advisor. My experience teaching for Shelby County Schools has afforded me the opportunity to become familiar with methods of teaching Spanish and allowing scholars to gain a true appreciation for the Spanish language and culture. I also have extensive experience in leading and sponsoring a school wide Spanish Club which has gained notoriety over the past year with an initial roster of 15 students. In addition to being a high school Spanish teacher, I am also an Instructor for the Upward Bound Program which works with high school scholars who are upcoming first generation college students seeking skills to become professional individuals in todays society. My greatest applicable strength is my ability to design stimulating lesson plans that instill a love for learning and a true appreciation for scholar academic growth. I incorporate hands-on activities to accommodate multiple intelligences, encourage student learning, consolidate important concepts, and enhance scholars academic skills.

Hello, I am Kristina Emerson. Thank you for considering me to be your tutor! I have a Masters's degree in Elementary Education and a Masters's degree in Special Education. I received both from Grand Canyon University. I have been teaching for 14 years. And I have taught both in-person and online. I enjoy working in small groups or one-on-one because, I struggled when I was in school, and I know how hard and frustrating learning can be. I would like to help shoulder some of that frustration with you and see if together we can make learning a little easier for your student and family. I believe that every student can learn to read, write, and do math. Some students need a little more time to understand the prosses, and someone with the patients to guide their way.

I am a recent graduate of Grand Canyon University where I received a Bachelor of Science degree in general and special education. Throughout the course of my studies, I have worked extensively with students of varying grade and skill levels. In Seattle, I worked with gifted kindergartners and first graders, challenging and guiding them as they explored concepts well above their grade levels. While student teaching in a sixth grade classroom, and multi-grade level resource room in Michigan, I worked with students and parents to design individual goals and monitor progress to increase proficiency in language arts and math. I tutor a broad range of subjects, and specifically enjoy teaching reading, writing, history, and geography; however, I am most passionate about math, and helping students understand strategies and how they work. In my experience, it is when students recognize the underlying concepts that they enjoy math and make the greatest gains. I believe learning is an essential part of life, and all individuals can and want to learn. In my spare time, I enjoy traveling to natural, historical, and cultural cites, hiking, running, yoga, reading, and listening to music.
