I have a Bachelor's in French and Theatre and a Master's degree in French, both from Illinois State university. I held a teaching assistantship during my Master's studies for which I taught a French class at the university. During the summers I worked in the French language-immersion camp. While in college I did a study abroad program in France and after finishing my Master's I lived and worked in France for a year teaching English in schools. The majority of my experience has been teaching languages, and although I can teach other subjects, languages and culture are what I truly have a passion for.Through my various experiences, I have taught languages to students ages 4-18 and above, have taught in a classic classroom environment with all the latest technological aides, and taught outdoors through activities, games, and music.I believe that each student is unique and has their own learning style, which is why it can be tough for many students to thrive solely through learning in a typical classroom environment. Tutoring offers a more focused, individualized atmosphere which enables the tutor to tailor the lessons to the student for them to have an optimal learning experience. I have found that the best results happen when language, or any subject for that matter, is taught through a variety of different activities that are interactive and engaging.Outside of teaching and learning languages, my interests and hobbies include theatre, music/singing, reading, watching TV and movies, travel, fashion, and spending time with my friends and family. I also enjoy challenges and new experiences.

I am a graduate of Illinois State University where I received my Bachelor of Arts in Spanish Education and my Master of Arts in Foreign Languages. I also have a Master of Arts in Educational Administration from Governors State University. I have traveled to various Spanish speaking countries and loved the experiences. I enjoy working with youth and adults by helping them to broaden their minds learning another language and about the culture of the people. Teaching Spanish has been a very rewarding and enjoyable experience. I believe the higher you can go with your education, the better you are to make yourself more marketable. Learning Spanish is not only fun, and easy, but also beneficial in terms of personal growth, travel, building relationships, and career prospects. Working with students one on one or in groups is rewarding and enjoyable. The goal is to get them to the next level in acquiring the knowledge that they seek. In my spare time I enjoy singing in my church choir, traveling, and spending time with my family.

Whether building foundational literacy skills or strengthening comprehension and fluency, I tailor my approach to each learner's unique needs and learning style. My tutoring style is warm, patient, and structuredI believe in creating a supportive environment where students feel safe to take risks and build skills at their own pace. Outside of teaching, I enjoy spending time with my husband, our two kids, and our dog. We love biking, hiking, and reading together. These moments keep me grounded and continually remind me of the joy and curiosity I aim to foster in every tutoring session.

I graduated this past May from Illinois State University with a degree in Elementary Education. I have experience working with students from kindergarten through eighth grade. I am specifically endorsed in reading, language arts, and social studies. I will soon be endorsed in science as well. I enjoy tutoring because of the one-on-one interaction that does not occur as frequently in a classroom setting. I am very passionate about teaching and have a lot of new ideas to bring to tutoring sessions. When I am not tutoring you can find me working as a camp counselor or at home going for a bike ride with my siblings. I am excited to meet my students and am anxious to begin!

My name is Erin Dorset, and I am excited about the opportunity to be your next tutor! My educational background and teaching experience collectively make me an excellent tutor. I am a recent graduate of Illinois State University with a Master's degree in Biological Sciences (GPA 4.0), with special interests in ecology and conservation. Before that, I earned a Bachelor's degree in Biology at SUNY Geneseo (GPA 3.89). I also attended Shenendehowa High School and excelled in all subjects, particularly Science and English. As a graduate student, I taught biology labs for five semesters, which gave me experience in both running a full classroom and in working one-on-one with students. Additionally, as an undergraduate student, I spent a semester as a biology teaching assistant, where I helped coordinate lab activities and answer students' questions. I have also spent time as an assistant coach for a high school cross-country ski team, where I gained the ability to teach students skills outside of a classroom setting. Because I have worked with students with diverse educational and personal backgrounds in a variety of settings, I am well-qualified to be your tutor.I believe that students who are motivated can achieve anything that they set their minds to, and I enjoy tutoring because I like helping students gain confidence in their abilities and achieve their goals. I also believe that many students learn differently from others, which is why I like to personalize lessons as much as possible based on the learning style of the student. I am patient, kind, and enthusiastic, and would love to become your tutor! I tutor students in several subject areas, including: Ecology, Biology, ACT Science, ACT Reading, and ACT English.

I have a Bachelor's degree in Special Education from Illinois State University, a Graduate degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Concordia University, and another Advanced Graduate degree from Northern Illinois University as a Reading Specialist. I enjoy teaching and tutoring because I enjoy working with kids, and I love to have a part in seeing them do things they weren't able to do before. As a lifelong teacher that has been my reward. I have been teaching for a many years and am certified to teach in elementary, middle and high schools. I prefer working one-on-one or with small groups. When I start getting to know my students I want to know them as the unique persons they are. Then I want to know what learning needs they have so together we can set goals and work on them. When I can I like to use games and give challenges. We have as much fun as we can while making the efforts needed for learning. Kids, parents and I will partner together so we can each do our part so kids can be successful. I have a BA in biology from Augustana College, a MS in Education from Illinois State University and further coursework at Northern Illinois University. Besides teaching in Illinois and California my experience includes years in Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. During the last three years I was teaching English online to Chinese students. Subjects I can teach are elementary level subjects, especially math (up to pre-algebra), science, English and reading. I also can teach high school biology. When I'm not teaching I enjoy doing things outdoors, especially camping and fishing. I also like to make music by singing and playing my harmonica.
