As a nature teacher and world explorer, I have worked with children around the globe for the past twenty years. In the last four years, around 5,000 students have been a part of my online classroom! With a background in environmental, experiential, and Montessori education, I guide children of all ages to learn about animals, plants, and Earth science. My education includes a Master of Science in ecological leadership and education, and a Bachelor of Arts in environmental studies, with minors in marine science and anthropology. I am passionate about inspiring excitement and curiosity for the environment by creatively presenting information to students in multifaceted formats. My real-life rainforest adventures on almost every continent have brought me face to face with unique wild animals. I integrate stories from my travels, my wildlife photography, and props such as bones, fossils, rocks, and crystals from my science shelf into my classes. Program animals Scaly, the corn snake, Slimy the tiger salamander, and Lizzie the leopard gecko often make live appearances to help with interactive lessons. I will always provide optional supplemental coloring pages, creative art projects, or hands-on science experiments that enhance the lesson and reinforce at home learning.

I am a graduate of Lesley University and Rhode Island College. My degrees are a Master of Math Education, Bachelor's of Elementary Grades 1-6/Special Education K-12 grade. I have 22 years of Special Education experience in every grade in inclusion, resource and self-contained settings. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with family and my Labradoodle.

My passion for education began during my college years, when I accepted a tutoring position at a local elementary school. At the time, I did not fully understand how powerful academic support could be for students who needed encouragement, structure, and individualized attention. Working with children in low-performing schools near my college helped me realize that tutoring was much more than helping students complete assignments. It was about building confidence, creating meaningful connections, and helping young learners see that success was possible for them. That experience became a turning point in my life and helped shape my commitment to education. As I continued tutoring, I learned the importance of meeting students where they are academically and personally. Many students need more than repeated instruction; they need someone who can identify gaps in understanding, explain concepts differently, and celebrate progress along the way, Ed.D. Ed.S, MMNGT.

My personal passions include solving mysteries/puzzles. I golf, swim and spend time in my garden. I love music and animals. I am a graduate of Virginia State Univ.( BS in Business Administration), Leslie Univ. ( Masters in Educational Technology, and Columbus State Univ. ( Specialist in Educational Leadership. I have 37 years of experience in teaching/tutoring. With that being said, I am extremely passionate about teaching/tutoring math. I love it when I have taught a concept and my students are able to regurgitate what was taught. Middle School is my favorite level to teach/tutor. I have many roles that I fill everyday at my school. I teach 6th grade math, I am the grade level chair, the textbook coordinator, track coach, teacher mentor, a member of the leadership team, and I am the lead mentor for our male mentoring group.

I believe education is an important step for children to have a promising future. Given the right tools, scholars will be anything they want to be. One of those tools is becoming an effective learner. Given a strong foundation students can achieve anything

I went to Lesley University in Cambridge Ma for my Master's degree and it is Severe Special Needs. I was a special needs teacher for 14 years after that. I worked mostly with students in Elementary School and with Autism Spectrum Disorder. I have experience with children with many other disabilities as well.When the pandemic happened I decided to be a stay at home mom to help my children with their school work.I love teaching and it is my greatest passion. I greatly enjoy when children understand the littlest things. My favorite part is watching the light bulb go off when they get it! My teaching philosophy is to have fun. You are not learning if you're not enjoying what you are doing!

I teach young children K-2. Due to COVID I am teaching online. I teach reading, writing, phonics, and math skills. I enjoy seeing students become stronger readers, writers, and mathematicians. I talk with students about strategies and tools they can use to strengthen their skills.I believe dialogue and conversation is important between students and myself to build a relationship that is based on trust, respect, and the joy to learn.I teach Everyday Math K-2. This includes: addition, subtraction, place value, problem solving, measurement and data, and 2-D and 3-D geometry.I teach Guided Reading which involves using leveled reading books for both narrative and informational texts. This also includes teaching reading strategies to students to strengthen their decoding and comprehension skills. I am passionate about teaching. I am a native speaker of Mandarin Chinese. I have many years of experience in teaching Chinese language and math. Although I have not taught in a classroom setting, I have advised international students on F-1 Visa regulations for the last two years.
