I have been in education since 2004. I received my undergraduate at Texas A&M University in biomedical science and then went on to get my Masters at University of Houston-Clear Lake in education. I was a classroom teacher for many years teaching 1st for 5 years and then a year of each of the following 2nd, PK3/PK4, 1st/2nd combo. I then became a dyslexia/intervention teacher teaching dyslexia to K-8th grade and intervention for the same grades for math, science and ELA/reading. From there I moved into a director position and had the privilege of teaching other teachers. I am passionate about teaching reading so that students have a strong foundation. I love math and science and you will always find me with a book just in case I have a few minutes. I love to learn and love helping others discover that they can love to learn. My approach is not one size fits all. Let's chat, allow me to see what you know/struggle with and then we will dive in from there. I teach in a judgement free zone and aim to connect with each individual so that we can work together in a comfortable, safe setting where any question can be asked and academic conversations flow freely.

I am very passionate about education and helping young adults close gaps in learning. I have been in Education for over 19 years in Louisiana and Texas serving in a variety of roles including Middle and High School English teacher, Academic and Instructional Coach, Testing Coordinator (Campus and District), and Assistant Principal. Currently, I am completing my Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction focusing on Literacy at Texas A & M Commerce.My background and experiences have made me the most patient and resilient educator!! I know that I can help anyone learn, and I live to hear the "OHHH" when it clicks for the learner.

Education is an art, not a science. Art must start with high expectations and adaptability for students to learn. Standards, expectations, and positive classroom management play integral parts in this educational journey and can impact students greatly. High standards need to come from the teacher and the students, each pushing each other beyond expectations. Both have a responsibility to push each other to achieve, which leading to success.Preparation from both can take many forms:Creating an engaging curriculum that offers a variety of opportunities for practice and success which could include direct learning, cooperative groups, project-based learning, team teaching, cross-curricular units, portfolio, and self-reflection. Both will increase their knowledge base and will help with not become stagnant. Both should be seeking aid and thoughts from mentors, professors, and people in the community. Committee hours for assistance each other, parent communication, and extracurricular activities involving the whole class or part of it as needed.Researching, then choosing a classroom model that fits teaching style and age appropriateness.Student and professor need to read and search topics for discussions before getting into a class. Each should try to find details that will surprise, surpass, context to prior knowledge to make a subject more interesting to the class. Each topic is discussed should be connected to other topics, both within the class, other classes, and the real world. Challenge each other, leads to all involved reach new heights in their learning. Team learning includes admitting and taking responsibility for mistakes, which creates a safe atmosphere to take risks. We all are capable of going beyond each paradigm to find success. It a dysfunction to our students, when the class exceptions are less because of busy schedules, family life, special needs, hard circumstances, or anything for the outside of academia. Teaching to the individual with everyone challenging that specific student helps to pushes expectations and gains self-esteem as well as academic progress for all.A positive classroom makes it safe and free from barriers to learning. Professors need to model taking risks, so students can see professors working on projects as well. Classroom examples and everyone doing projects from students to professor alike. Everyone should be comfortable taking risks within this safe environment.Education is inevitably a well-thought mental process. This journey is so important to learning and planning is essential. Creating progressive curriculum, and a safe, positive classroom allow the dream of learning to take places all around. "Success is a journey, not a destination." (Sweetland, 2001).

I am a retired K-5 teacher with 30 years experience. Through my years of teaching, I have learned that no two learners are alike. All learners want to be successful and I find great pleasure in finding ways for each learner to experience personal success.

I have been an educator for 10 years and have enjoyed facilitating advancement of my students. I hope to make education dun and engaging. I use my hobbies of gaming and reading to bring real world experiences to all subjects I teach.

I love math so much that it has become a lifestyle. I used to read Harry Potter and think "If only magic were real, I'd study so hard that I'd be the best wizard ever!" (pardon my tastes if you're not into fantasy)Well magic is real. Magic is the underlying mechanism of reality: how the world works, and math is the language it's written in.I've heard things like "math is cold and calculating," but I would argue that math is closer to English and the arts than it is to the sciences. Math is about curiosity, creativity, and intuition; you're writing spells to solve the problems of the world.Any calculator can do arithmetic, but if I can show you why the math exists in the first place, and how to invent it yourself, then and only then have I done my job.

I'm an undergraduate at UH-Clear Lake working on a B.S. in Mathematical Sciences. I've tutored for about two years now, including a year working at San Jacinto College's Math Center. It was a great experience because it was very busy and I got the chance to help dozens of students every day. However, I enjoy one-on-one tutoring the most because there is less pressure to help as many people as possible. Instead, I can focus on a single student for the entire session.I have tutored a very diverse range of students. There have been grandmothers returning to school for the first time in 30 years, high school students taking challenging AP courses, and college students from many different backgrounds. No matter the person, I am always thrilled to get the chance to learn with my students and help them develop the skills to learn independently.Most of my students are looking for help in mathematics courses, but I have also had students taking Chemistry and Physics courses both in high school and college. I particularly enjoy tutoring AP Physics and Chemistry students.When I am not studying or tutoring math and sciences, I like to spend my time reading, playing my piano, or enjoying a nice day at the park with my dog. I am also a martial artist. I have been studying Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu since 2008. It is a very technical art and I appreciate the benefits of challenging myself mentally and physically.

In the winter of 2004, I had the pleasure of earning my first degree from Texas Southern University. I received a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology. From there I entered the classroom and began my teaching career. I began working with at risk students at an alternative school for behavioral concerns. I noticed that many of the students there were smart but had behavioral characteristics that hindered their learning process. I started as a teacher aide but enjoyed it so much that I decided to become certified. I chose to receive my certification in grades 4-8 in all content areas. My personal belief is that these are those most critical times of a students educational career. My desire to want to become a counselor blossomed in those first four years. I made the decision in 2008 to work towards a Masters' degree in School Counseling. I attended University of Houston-Clear Lake and obtained my degree in 2012. During the road to my degrees, I had the pleasure of teaching middle school students in all content areas. Now that I have been a school counselor for the past fours years I have come to miss the classroom environment. There is so much joy in watching students learn something new and the excitement they present. The primary subjects that I tutor are English & Language Arts and middle school level Math. Essay writing would probably be considered my favorite subject since I consider myself a writer as well. Many students struggle with the subject because they are not sure what to say. My advice to students is always to follow your knowledge of the topic and let your mind flow freely. When working with students I try to get to know them as an individual so that learning can be tailored to their needs. There are no two brains that think alike and therefore should be taught using different methods at times. One of the largest components that becomes a hurdle in student learning is study skills or lack thereof. Before I start working with a student I always investigate their studying style. Based on the method they utilize I do my best to tweak the needed changes to maximize student learning. Whenever my time is not devoted to educating I love to listen to music and write poetry. I try to be a student of all genres of music because I believe songs tell the story of a person. My favorite sports are basketball and boxing although I find myself drawn to anything that has a competitive nature.

I am a nurse educator with 20 years of experience. I obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Houston-Clear Lake and a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Houston. Currently, I am working on a PhD in Nursing Science at Texas Woman's University where my research focus is on why nurses have stayed at the bedside. I am passionate about education, specifically nursing education. It always brings me joy to see students succeed and begin to think beyond the to-do list. In my spare time, I enjoy reading and watching anything true crime related.

I am passionate about helping students identify and achieve their learning goals because I recognize, based on personal and professional experience, that there is power in committing to goals and making a clear plan to reach or exceed those goals. My teaching philosophy includes applying a collaborative, interactive, and dynamic approach to learning. Life changes all the time and our learning goals should as well. The more we reach from our current level to the next, the more we grow, even if it may hurt a little! In my life I have worked with students of all ages on two continents. I believe that learning is a partnership and both student and tutor/teacher should be changed for the good because of the interactions. I was formally educated both in the United States and Spain. I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Spanish and Mexican American Studies, a Master's Degree in Spanish Linguistics, Master's Certificate in Educational Leadership, and a lifetime teaching certificate (various areas of certification) in the state of Texas. I continue to be informally educated, though, wherever I go. My perspective is that learning happens continually, if we maintain a posture of humility. In support of that, I would like my students to know that I am taking steps to get a Paralegal Degree and my next goal will be my Doctoral Degree! Outside of academia I am interested in travel, gardening, astronomy, nature, reading, painting, and more.

I believe in educating the whole student. I graduated from University of Houston with a degree in Business. I then matriculated to University of Houston-Clear Lake to receive an Education degree with a focus in Reading Instruction. I am a Texas certified Reading Specialist and Master Reading Teacher. I have tutored students that are Second Language Learners, students with special needs and students that are dyslexic and dysgraphic. I have tutored students in the areas of English Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, GED completion and STAAR test prep. My favorite subjects to tutor are reading and math. I believe teachers everywhere should meet their students where they are. By saying this I mean teachers should start instruction from the students familiarity level and move up from there. I love long distance cycling and reading young adult fiction. I also like to play video games.
