Hi! My name is Kacie and I have a passion for learning. Ever since I was a little kid I have loved school and diving into a new subject. I currently have a Bachelor of Journalism and Bachelor of Arts in International Studies from the University of Missouri. I have expertise in writing, English language and the Spanish language. I am great with little kids and also adults. Let me know if you have any questions!

I am an educator who loves to help students reach their goals. I have taught for many years, and always enjoy the challenge of working with a student who is struggling with the content they've been assigned. My goal as a tutor is to help students succeed while challenging them to use their critical thinking skills, regardless of the subject.
I am a graduate of New Mexico State University where I received my Bachelor's Degrees in Science. I hold a Master's of Science from the University of Missouri at Columbia. Finally, I have a Juris Doctor from the University of New Mexico. I am especially good at teaching elementary school subjects, middle school subjects, high school subjects, prep school tests, GED, ACT, and LSAT. I am currently working on a Business Management program. I strongly believe that learning should never cease and that everyday gives us the chance to learn something. I have a varied background in science and the arts which makes me perfect for teaching many subjects. If that isn't enough, I have homeschooled for 7 years and been a private tutor for 25, including the last year here at Varsity. I enjoy teaching because it gives back to the community.
I graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia with a bachelor's degree in Communications, but have shown an aptitude for math and science throughout my academic career. There are so many resources available online that one could get lost in the breadth of information. I'm here to hone in on what makes you want to learn so that we can work together to help accomplish your goals.
I am a University of Missouri - Columbia graduate, and umpire for minor league baseball. I started teaching because I genuinely enjoy math (even though I haven't always) and believe it is important for students to excel in math.
One of the main reasons why I decided to pursue a career as tutor was so that I would have the opportunity to work with future generations. I view teaching as central to all of my scholarly activities and regularly include Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL) in my strategic plan. These activities allow me to identify and disseminate instructional strategies to ensure that students learn about the cutting edge interventions I research on a daily basis. It is my hope that my teaching will allow me to "keep the flame of scholarship alive" in some way and to inspire students to remain focused on the functional effects of interventions designed to improve clients' mathematical and technical skills.
Hi! My name is Joel and I am currently attending the University of Missouri with a double major of Chemistry and Political Science. I have lived on Kansas City all my life. While growing up I played on my school's tennis and soccer team. Additionally I participated in National Honor Society, and was the President of Ping pong Club in my school. In high school I tutored many students in subjects such as AP Government and AP English Language and Composition. Furthermore in College I tutored students in Chemistry 1 and 2. Although these are higher level subjects, I work very well with children and have tutored some of my friend's younger siblings in areas like algebra and science.I am very excited for the opportunity to help scholars excel in their school work. I look forward to any and all obstacles that we must overcome together.
I am a Washington University Law School graduate who also has a Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education from the University of Missouri. I have seven years teaching experience on both the high school and post-secondary level. I can assist students with standardized test preparation, Reading Comprehension and Writing. I have taught Government, English, World Religions, History and Psychology in the past. I scored in the top 98th percentile on the LSAT and specialize in helping students using proven techniques to increase their scores. Specifically, I can help students more easily break down the types of logic games and to distinguish between right and wrong answers in the Logical Reasoning and Reading Comprehension sections. I enjoy helping others obtain their educational goals, and would love to help increase your test scores, grades or simply to understand your subject area better.
I graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia with a BS in Education, a Masters in English Education and a Masters in Public Health. I have taught 3rd grade, 7th grade communications, college writing and literature. While working on my MEd, I studied under Dorothea Watson for two years (she continued to mentor me for many years after my completed degrees). Dr. Watson developed Miscue Analysis. Miscue analysis involves a running record that is used to identify difficulties faced by students when they read. I have successfully applied Miscue Analysis to elementary, middle school, and high school students' reading From 2011-2020 I created and managed a college prep service in the San Francisco Bay Area. I had 40 students per week in San Ramon California. I prepared and assisted students in writing their college application essays and taking the SAT and ACT. The majority of my students' families spoke English as a second language. 68% of my students were admitted to prestigious colleges and universities and 54% received academic scholarships. The world we live in is constantly changing and transitioning. Over the past couple of years we have lived through some abrupt changes and a true paradigm shift. It is imperative to know yourself and how you learn and work best so you are able to adjust, be resilient, resourceful and thrive. What you know does not benefit you or others unless you are able to effectively communicate your knowledge. In our first session we will get to know each other and set goals. I always have fun with my students. Having fun while learning, at any level, expedites the learning process. I enjoy building a strong rapport with my students. I expect transparent communication. I am passionate about all forms of communication and learning for the purpose of understanding. I am a proponent of education and believe it to be absolutely necessary for a quality life. In my free time I enjoy reading, writing, swimming, traveling and learning new hobbies and activities.
I spent four years at the University of Missouri in Columbia majoring in English and History. In the time I spent there, I mostly worked with friends who felt like they needed help writing papers, personal statements, or simple responses for classes, but in my senior year I got the chance to substitute for one of my previous professors. This sparked my interest in tutoring, and the year after I graduated I tutored student athletes at the university in English, History and Mythology classes.I believe that all students are highly capable, they just need the proper tools to gain the confidence to succeed. Some students simply don't have all the information they need to do something well, but this doesn't mean that they are automatically "bad" at reading or writing papers. I try to help students develop the skills they need so that they can move forward with confidence and continue to improve.I have been reading my whole life, and I have done a lot of creative writing, so I have a great love of words. I am particularly fond of Shakespeare (although there are a lot of students who don't agree with me!) but I also have experience reading other European and American literature. My history experiences covers Europe, America, and Latin America, although I have a special fondness for Tudor England (think Henry VIII and his wives), early American history, and classical cultures, like ancient Rome. I think that everybody can develop a love for history, they just need to approach it in the right way!
I am a certified English and science teacher in Missouri for grades 5-9. My dual certification gives me an edge when it comes to integrating writing and reading in the science classroom. I understand that all students have a variety of learning styles and that it is important to differentiate my teaching in order to accommodate everyone. I am a pretty easy-going person and find it easy to build relationships with my students to help them succeed in their academics and other facets of their life!
Having a diverse background of growing up in Egypt, attending undergraduate and graduate school in the US and medical school in the West Indies, I have have been fortunate to interact and tutor students throughout every phase of my education. Tutoring students with different cultural and academic backgrounds has taught me to implement an individualistic approach of teaching This method would help enable each of them to learn and understand the concepts rather than just memorize. While attending undergraduate and graduate school at the University of Missouri, I worked as a TA in a Medical Microbiology and immunology lab, this experience has exposed me to teach a group rather than individuals at once. It lead me to implement methods of active learning to ensure that the content presented was understood by everyone. While also working as a tutor in the athletic department, I would be assigned to student athletes who were performing poorly in their courses due to the lack of interest in studying and education, while allocating most of their time to training for their respective sport. For the first time it has taught me that being able to built trust, mentor, and support a student can have a major impact on their academic performance. That in order to gain a students respect and attention, you have to give them the same in return.During the past several years, I have also worked in healthcare and public health. As a firm believer of disease prevention, this has lead me to focus vastly on educating patients on understanding their illnesses and methods that would improve their prognosis. Also, during my public health training I would attend clinics in areas that are endemic for certain conditions (Hepatitis C, HIV etc) and present to the locals about the etiologies and pathologies of these conditions, and how they could prevent or decrease their risk of exposure. Each of these experiences has been a crucial component of the my ideologies on how to effectively teach, mentor, and motivate people about learning by understanding. I believe that being a teacher is more than just explaining content, but being able to teach using an individualistic approach, while building trust with all those you work with, whether a student, patient, or members of a community.
I am a recent graduate of the University of Missouri with a degree in Spanish. In the future, I plan on getting certified in ESL and working towards a teaching certificate. Ever since I took my first Spanish class in the seventh grade, I have been in love with the language and all the different cultures it is a part of. I am very passionate about the importance of Spanish in America today, as well as helping Hispanic families learn English, while not forsaking their native language. While learning Spanish over the years, I also fell in love with many other topics including Biology, Anatomy, and Math. I simply enjoy learning, and that is why I am interested in so many different topics. I am also an excellent test taker and am very passionate about helping students learn how to effectively study for and take tests. I believe that no test should keep a hard working and knowledgeable student from succeeding.I didn???t always know I wanted to be a teacher, but I have always enjoyed tutoring my friends and family when they came to me asking for help. After I graduated, I tutored a woman who was studying for the citizenship test to become a U.S. Citizen. As a native Spanish speaker, she had trouble pronouncing and understanding certain words. After two months of tutoring, she took the test and passed with flying colors. It was during this time that I discovered my passion and skills for tutoring. I really care about my students and want them to succeed. Watching a young child understand something for the first time, or an adult student work so hard and with such determination to better their future, these things brighten my life, and push me be the best tutor I can be.I believe that education is extremely important, not only to have a successful career, but to learn the discipline necessary to have a successful and happy life. Because of this, I love to find new ways to motivate my students and get them interested in the material. Aside from tutoring, I also love spend time with my husband, travel, go hiking or skiing, or simply get lost in a good book. One thing I know for sure in my life, though, is that I never want to stop learning.
I recently retired from teaching at the same school for over 25 years! I taught 2nd grade for several years, and have spent the last 15 years as an Elementary Reading Intervention Specialist working with students from Kindergarten - 5th grade. I have also tutored many students outside of the school day to review and strengthen previously taught skills, provide additional practice or model strategies and enrich their understanding of and response to what they read. I graduated from the University of Missouri with a degree in Elementary Education and from Webster University with a Master's of Arts in Teaching with an emphasis in reading. In addition, I hold a K-12 special reading certification. One of my specialties is the close observation and identification of students' reading behaviors, and then using those observations to determine the specific item knowledge or skills students need to grow as readers and learners. At times, that can include clearing up their confusions or designing lessons to respond to their learning styles and individual needs. I have been trained in various intervention programs and understand the connection between listening, speaking, reading and writing. I have experience with developing students' phonemic awareness and understand the importance of linking what students hear to what they see when they read and write. I believe in building upon what students already know, imparting confidence so they can see themselves as learners, and fundamentally, that all children can achieve success. I enjoy reading in my free time and try to instill a love of books in my students. Some of my other hobbies are riding my bike, doing yoga and going to the beach with my family and friends as often as we can.
I am a recent graduate of the University of Missouri in Columbia, where I earned two Bachelor of Arts degrees in French and Linguistics in May 2016. Sometime in the near future, I plan on going back to school to earn a Masters degree in translation. I have a passionate love of languages and language usage, and I derive great joy from helping others develop their skills in these areas. As such, I am a registered French, English, Writing, Essay Editing, and Grammar tutor. My goals as a tutor are to help students become more comfortable with the material that they are learning, to give them the tools necessary to develop study skills that are effective for them, and to impart upon them the same passion for learning that I possess, because I have seen that passion is a great motivator and tends to predict remarkable improvement. When I am not tutoring, I enjoy writing creatively, trying to teach myself different languages (right now it's Japanese), playing the saxophone, and going on nature walks.

My name is Joel Schafer and I an educator living in the beautiful Midwestern metropolis of Chicago, Illinois though I am originally from a small farming community in rural Missouri. I have studied English language and literature, linguistics, Russian language and literature, journalism, education, and pedagogy during my academic career. My passion is to teach Language Arts, though I also teach English as a Second Language. Providing education to others is what I devoted my entire life to, and I would not have it any other way.I first started tutoring when I was a junior in college. My professor recommended that I tutor some of the lower level students in her Russian language course and I accepted not knowing what I was getting into. Though I was volunteering, I was obsessed with helping others evolve academically. Eventually, after completing college, I moved to Moscow, Russia to teach English there for a year. Since moving back, I have been teaching ESL in Chicago to a plethora of students from all over the world. I am currently working on my Master's degree in Secondary Education with an emphasis in English and plan to eventually teach in high schools here in Chicago.Part of what I love about teaching is learning form my students. They might not know it, but I learn as much from them as they do from me. It really is the best job that anyone could ever have.

I am a writer who works extensively with historical documents and researcher who embraces learning for life. I love making a subject engaging, interesting and ultimately seeing others succeed in their endeavors. After earning my Eagle Scout Rank, I directed a Cub Scout camp's Nature department. I am a young teacher that is dual certified in Mathematics and English Language Arts. I am enthusiastic about teaching and I love fostering a deeper understanding and love for mathematics in my students. My hometown is St. Charles, MO and I recently graduated from the University of Missouri with a BS in Chemistry. I was employed by the university as a science tutor for my last 2 years. I enjoy establishing relationships with people who are motivated to become better students and show a willingness to learn. My main subject is chemistry, but I am also able to tutor biology and mathematics. My tutoring methods are pretty straightforward -- I will do my best to explain material in a way that is easy to understand, but I will encourage students to work problems on their own to prove they have in fact learned the material.I have tutored 10 students individually and been evaluated as having "outstanding" knowledge, organization, communication skills, attitude and overall tutoring ability. They have said that "he is thoroughly helpful and explains concepts in great detail", he models "good study methods and strategies", and he "describes equations and provides tips to solve them faster on tests."While I may specialize in tutoring intro level college chemistry and high school chemistry, my main goal is to help students develop efficient study methods and time management skills that can be implemented in any class they take. Together, we can make science and math easier to understand. Let's get to it!

I've always been passionate about sharing knowledge with students. I love learning new things, and I really enjoy helping students do the same. After that, I went to graduate school at the University of Missouri in Columbia.I have a bachelor's degree in mathematics, and a masters degree in statisticsI tutor all levels of algebra, along My favorite subject to tutor is statistics. Every day we see statistics in the real world, and I like that I get to teach students how to interpret and analyze that information from a mathematical perspective.I recognize that some people really struggle with mathematics. Sometimes math can seem like learning a new language. As a tutor and instructor, my goal is to give students the tools needed to connect and build on ideas, rather than just memorizing formulas. I like to keep students involved by asking questions. I also want my students to ask me questions. Together we work together to put the ideas in the simplest terms.I enjoy activities that involve problem solving, like jigsaw puzzles. I also like baking treats, and eating them! I see a certain magic in helping someone understand something about the world, and I want to experience that magic over and over again. I have had experience working with students at many levels of education, from elementary school through students working on graduate degrees. I have a bachelor's in chemistry from Reed College and a Ph.D. in radiochemistry from the University of Missouri, where I also took a minor in college teaching. I currently tutor elementary, middle school, and high school math and science subjects. Chemistry is my first love, and I enjoy tutoring chemistry and biology because explanations in these fields involve telling a good story about why weirdly different things are actually the same thing. My teaching philosophy is founded on being a good listener: I cannot help you learn something new unless you can tell me what you already know, so I am ready to listen to you. Outside of academia, I'm into woodworking, other arts and crafts, exploring my city, and gardening. I have two children who do a good job of showing me the world through their fresh eyes.
I am a graduate of the University of Missouri at Columbia, where I earned first my Bachelor's and then (some time later) Master's of Science in Mathematics with an emphasis on physics and the theory of computation. The latter degree was a necessary precursor to my next career where my workplace was the classroom: I don't believe in the importance of education because I teach; I became a teacher because I believe in the importance of education. Especially when trying to make informed decisions, as I came to realize in my first career as a data analyst. This I passionately believe; doubly so in matters where a certain fluency in the language of numbers is demanded.
